managedmis · 10/05/2020 18:47

Names???

Soubriquet · 10/05/2020 18:48

Awww I love chicks

A friend of mine used to carry them around in her bra when rejected by mama bird.

ChickenMidwife · 10/05/2020 18:55

Mummy hen is called Mackerel. All our chickens are named after fish. It seemed funny at first but it’s probably gone a bit far now! Our cockerel is called Sam, short for Salmon. We’ve had Sam since he was about 8 weeks!

Awwwwwww

newmumwithquestions · 11/05/2020 07:56

Can I join in? We had 4 eggs - silkie dad and pekin mum so they’ll be silkins. They all hatched so it is possible.
Unfortunately one isn’t eating so I’m hand feeding it by syringe - anyone experienced in a sick chick?

New mum that chicken looks like she's saying 'this is big mamas house' Grin

mogloveseggs · 11/05/2020 08:59

Aw chicks! So gorgeous
Hope they all survive

InkieNecro · 11/05/2020 09:02

Ooh, this is more exciting than a live birth thread!

ChickenMidwife · 11/05/2020 09:06

@newmumwithquestions Silkins! How exciting! This is our first hatch and I’m really hoping mum just does it all. Sick chick sounds scary.

We have another! Sadly I’m at work and DH can’t manage photos with a toddler to wrangle. It’s grey apparently! Dad is white (his dad was ginger and his siblings were Iemon and lavender) and the eggs could be from any of our hens who are a variety of greys and blacks, with a touch of ginger so I’m hoping for a variety!

I can't wait to see the pictures.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/05/2020 21:00

How are the babies.

ChickenMidwife · 11/05/2020 21:14

We definitely have four chicks! Unsure it the last two of the six have hatched or failed. Mummy is being very protective so it’s hard to get a look. Just the chick born yesterday evening who is being a bit more adventurous. Hoping the others will follow suit tomorrow.

Oh lordy, look at them! There's something seriously wrong with anyone who looks at these pics and doesn't go 'ahhhhhh'. So lovely OP, keep the pics coming.

Can I offer Angel (angelfish) for a name?

HazelBite · 11/05/2020 21:27

How lovely.
We keep cockatiels and we let them breed one year as we had a very loving couple!!
They were wonderful parents and the "babies" are 14 this year.
(your chicks are really cute OP cockatiel chicks look like mini dinosaurs)
