Mine is Sandie Shaw. I can't believe it had never occurred to me until tonight that her name is a play on Sandy Shore.

Unless, like I saw in my local pub, it says vegetarian scampi which was made with halloumi!

sashh · 10/05/2020 09:08

Plums stones contain hydrogen cyanide as do apple seeds and cherry pits - don;t ever chew the pits/seeds

Not enough to do harm, but it is useful in debunking the antivaxers theories.

TheShoesa · 10/05/2020 09:09

Twistyhair It's true! You do have to pull a bit harder than with a single though. So I suppose the point of a double is to be more secure and not loosen itself

Ninkanink · 10/05/2020 09:10

@Monapple I did know that! - in Danish they are called soil/earth nuts.

EggysMom · 10/05/2020 09:10

I'll admit I never knew there was a county called Rutland in England until the last thread like this on here.

Its existence was denied for many years - I grew up there in the 70s & 80s when it wasn't an independent county, it only existed as local signage within the county of Leicestershire.

ivykaty44 · 10/05/2020 09:12

What didn't you know about Hawaii?

zaphodbeeble · 10/05/2020 09:13

My gran called Dandelions 'pissy beds', this thread has now taught me why !
My year 11s had their minds blown when I told them only female cows produce milk !!!!!

dementedma · 10/05/2020 09:13

These threads are always funny...and educational..but I really am shocked people didnt know about dandelions.

frumpety · 10/05/2020 09:13

Sashh glad you said that because I always eat the whole of an apple and was wondering why I am still here Grin

TheShoesa · 10/05/2020 09:15

and I now see that Nonkanink had already answered

womanthatfelltoearth · 10/05/2020 09:15

You can use a cafetière to make frothy milk for a home made cappuccino! I could have saved so much money if I'd know this earlier..

user1495884620 · 10/05/2020 09:16

Damn it. I have just tested the shoelace thing and was going to call bullshit but it does actually work.

zaphodbeeble · 10/05/2020 09:16

You can cook a salmon in the dishwasher, my friends did not believe me on that one

VerticalHorizon · 10/05/2020 09:17

Isolated maps of UK are often tilted a little, but the longitude for Edinburgh is marginally West of Cardiff.
In fact, no part of mainland Scotland is east of oxford.

CoronelSuarez · 10/05/2020 09:17

Cows have best friends. That just makes me sad. Why do we keep putting these animals on our plates?. They deserve so much more.

Sad
ivykaty44 · 10/05/2020 09:18

maps on flat paper are not correct though and not in proportion

Cocorico22 · 10/05/2020 09:19

@SophieJo only if you have a fancy double edge peeler! Our ancient peeler growing up was one way only. Try as you might, it would not peel 'the other way'.

Shock
changeagainandagain · 10/05/2020 09:20

@womanthatfelltoearth how? I'm assuming do you just push the press up And down lots?

I'm not out of bed yet and need this info for my morning coffee 😂

BabloHoney · 10/05/2020 09:20

My 5 year old came home with a school book that told us a dolphin is a type of whale and my mind was blown

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 10/05/2020 09:20

It's the same with world maps (that are Europe centric) doesn't allow people to realise how close USA snd Russia are.

When I was looking up Hawaii on Google maps as a result of this thread, I realised that the global map I was seeing (because it had Hawaii at the centre) was a perspective of the world I'd never see before - the USA/Russia thing is really striking. And because of the way we usually see the world on a map, they seem to be the furthest apart. It's difficult to remember to think of the consequences of the world being a globe when looking at a flat map.

CherryValanc · 10/05/2020 09:21

"What didn't you know about Hawaii?"
@ivykaty44 Not sure, dont think anyone directly said! I think it's how far away from USA it is. (Well the mainland of USA). Or possibly it's not just one island.

TheShoesa · 10/05/2020 09:23

user1495884620 It's not the most useful thing to know, but I was well into my forties before the MN revelation.

JudyCoolibar · 10/05/2020 09:23

Try it! Tie a double knot as usual. Once it’s done, tug on one shoelace. If it tightens the knot you’ve got the wrong one and you can just pull the other one instead, and hey presto! Your double knot will melt away!

It this is correct, I'm tying double bows wrong.

womanthatfelltoearth · 10/05/2020 09:23

@changeagainandagain yes - hot milk about a third of the way up the press and press up and down for about 30 seconds. No need to go very fast.

ivykaty44 · 10/05/2020 09:24

thanks cherry
