I wonder if lack of travel will revive the British seaside at all.
It has been sometime since I have visited the UK coast but have memories of the majority of places I went having shabby hotels and some very down at the heel shops and pubs.
I'd love to find out if in my absence which places have improved or potentially will to gain back tourists.

I think people are being a bit over dramatic about Disgrace's post, he seems to be a very nice chap from his other posts on MN. I'm sure he didn't mean he stands jeering aloud at the Goths, just that he's entertained by some of the more extreme appearances. Calling him a bully and comparing him to murderous thugs is silly.

This! Goths are living up to their lighthearted take on life!

burnley yes to saying disgrace is lovely, but hell no to Wlaberwick being shit. I used to camp (sleep on the beach) and bbq there living nearby as a teen.

Hmm I'm not a Goth though. Do you have to be Goth to think it's a shitty attitude to have to laugh at someone for being so called "different?" Which is what was implied in their original post.

the point was to keep people away MoonBaby

I think the beaches outside of Broadstairs are my favorite, but some are better than others for facilities like loos and cafes. Close to London on the train too, a day trip is easy.

Exmouth. Loads of space and RNLI in the summer. Can always get a parking space too. Lots of coffee shops close by.
It's not traditionally quaint but it's being modernised.

Scarborough is really nice, I love the architecture, the funicular railway, the beach is beautiful, watching the lifeboats turn in the evening. Plenty of amusement arcades, they light up the beach at night. Place also has a very friendly atmosphere. Went last year and loved it. Filey is also beautiful, great place for kids. And the surrounding countryside is stunning.

Kent has some great seaside towns, Hythe with its Martello towers on the beach and steam train to Dungeoness. Deal is also lovely, chilled out. Broadstairs is great, lovely busy beach with a great walk heading off to Ramsgate, and also nearby is Botany Bay. Beautiful big white cliffs and arches, sandy beach and turquoise sea, as the tide goes out it’s great for rock pools. Whitstable is great for shopping, like Camden Market used to be, but by the sea. Amazing buzz down by the beach, great for fish n chips watching the sunset over the sea. I think Kent had the best fish n chips!

Weymouth is practically in my family’s DNA, we have been going for years. Fantastic beach, all the buzz of an old school holiday with trampolines and Punch and Judy. The harbour ad backstreets are beautiful, love all the Victorian guest houses. I wish they hadn’t got rid of the old lights on the clock and prom, those lazers just don’t have the magic.

We love going to Southport for the day, have stayed over night in the Bliss hotel. The children 2 and 5 love it, it’s their favourite place.

@vicbarbarkly you are absolutely right. Northumberland is stunning. Sorry i didn’t include that

For anyone that loves the Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay coast, Staithes is my favourite village to visit. It's smaller than RHB but the 3 pubs it has and the harbour and beach are so charming. It's a bit quieter also and the sunrise is just WOW

thatgingergirl · 07/05/2020 22:02

Staithes is lovely, but my, that hill to get back to the car park!

@FlopsyDoodle that looks lovely. Where is it?
I agree that new Brighton is much nicer now than it used to be.
