British Seaside Towns revival ? Where to go that is naice.

I wonder if lack of travel will revive the British seaside at all.
It has been sometime since I have visited the UK coast but have memories of the majority of places I went having shabby hotels and some very down at the heel shops and pubs.
I'd love to find out if in my absence which places have improved or potentially will to gain back tourists.

We have fabulous beaches. Money has been spent on doing it up so it’s looking good . Not saying where though 😛

UhKevin · 07/05/2020 14:55

champagne bar in a lighthouse

This alone is enough to persuade me

HeimdallSaysNo · 07/05/2020 14:57

Broadstairs
Ventnor IOW
Avon Beach Christchurch
Weymouth

Dowser · 07/05/2020 15:01

Went to Whitby two weeks ago
It’s a stunning vista
However they are doing massive harbour works on the south side
It might take a while before completion
But it was nice to have a drive and check it was still there

CatandtheFiddle · 07/05/2020 15:02

I live in an amazing seaside town up North but not telling you because we don't want you here just yet thank you

Yup, that's my feeling too. I'm in a tourist spot where - thank the goddess - we have a low infection rate. I'd like it to stay that way ...

Dowser · 07/05/2020 15:04

Ooh loving thank the goddess
I shall remember to use that
Yes our prom has been as busy as fuck despite the closed car parks
You just can’t keep my tribe in

thatgingergirl · 07/05/2020 15:07

Broadstairs, Cromer, Saltburn, Whitby, Tenby.

So want to be at the coast right now.

NCTDN · 07/05/2020 15:13

I love Norfolk and Northumberland / they're just looong drive from where I live!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 07/05/2020 15:14

We do a UK seaside holiday every summer. We save holidays abroad for spring and autumn.

Woolacombe is wonderful - you can hire a beach hut for about £100 p/w. We did this for two weeks last year and it was idyllic. Not sure if they will be able offer them this year if social distancing is still a requirement.

Eype beach in Bridport,Dorset is lovely - some people don't like the pebble beaches but I actually prefer them. You just need some water shoes. On a sunny day the beach and scenery reminds me of Corfu.

Croyde is lovely too.

Anywhere is Cornwall is lovely. I don't want to same my favourite beach as I love how peaceful it is!

Dowser · 07/05/2020 15:25

Living at the coast I take it too much for granted.
While we’ve been under lockdown I’ve certainly been grateful for it... and the country parks
Found some lovely nooks and crannies
One just 15 miles away
Fabulous

Mumof1andacat · 07/05/2020 15:33

All the devon coast line, north and south (teighnmouth down to Dartmouth and in the north all around ilfracombe)

LittleRa · 07/05/2020 15:38

Tynemouth

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 07/05/2020 15:39

Who described Poole.as a shithole? It's gorgeous! What planet are you on?.is Sandbanks too downmarket for you?

forgetthehousework · 07/05/2020 15:39

Whitby, just because of the goths! Fortunately most people don't laugh at us and the atmosphere is brilliant, but of course there are always a few dickheads ... (I'm more steampunk than goth - do you laugh at us too Disgrace?)

TwoZeroTwoZero · 07/05/2020 15:53

Cleethorpes Wink

It's actually not that bad tbh: sandy beach, funfair thing, swimming pool, lots of pubs, miniature railway, road train, open top buses, long pier, donkeys etc etc.

Withernsea wasn't bad either and neither is Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, Filey...

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 07/05/2020 16:10

No one has mentioned my seaside town. Good!

StylishMummy · 07/05/2020 16:23

Tenby is stunning and a bit less in your face than some of the traditional English resorts. Wells next the sea is stunning but £££ and Croyde bay in Devon is a personal favourite

BoogleMcGroogle · 07/05/2020 16:32

I grew up in Norfolk and we often holiday there ( although my favourite beaches are in Northumberland and Assynt)

Grotty in Norfolk:
Great Yarmouth
Hunstanton
Hemsby

Naice in Norfolk:
Sheringham
Wells
Cromer (ish, borderline grotty)
Blakeney-Cley-Morston
Kelling
Holme
Jury's out on Mundesley

Astonishingly posh in Norfolk:
Holkham (especially when said 'hoke-am')
The Burnhams
Brancaster

I can't wait to get back to the beach ( I live in Essex now and the beaches just aren't big or wild enough)

feesh · 07/05/2020 16:40

Aldeburgh and Southwold are extreeeemely naice and full of lovies from London.

Whitstable is lovely with a slightly hippier vibe.

Tynemouth is just gorgeous.

habibihabibi · 07/05/2020 16:42

Anyone in Camber ?
I like the look of Rye, especially as it has a Mermaid Street. What a beautiful address that would be.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 07/05/2020 16:49

Since Tenby's apparently so popular, Saundersfoot might be on the up now.

ellanwood · 07/05/2020 16:51

Rye is gorgeous.
Bamburgh is one of the most beautiful places on the planet and has an immense castle overlooking the sea.
Never been to Whitby but it's high on the list
Walberswick is lovely - had a gorgeous holiday there when DC were tiny
Looe is classic ice-cream, fish and chips or pasties with a lovely, (tiny) sandy beach and great crab-fishing along the harbour wall.

AgeLikeWine · 07/05/2020 16:52

Pretty much anywhere in Cornwall except Newquay. The problem is that towns like St Ives & Falmouth are so absolutely rammed in July & August that their charm is buried under a tide of lobster-red humanity. The cafes and restaurants are full, the car parks are full and the roads are gridlocked.

If you can go on warm, sunny weekdays in term-time, however, you will see Cornwall at its best.

SomewhereEast · 07/05/2020 16:54

Just saw the Isle of Man mentioned upthread & the beach there at Port Erin is honestly the most perfect little beach in the world. The only downside to the IOM is there's not much to do indoors when it rains, and it rains a fair bit.

Likethebattle · 07/05/2020 16:59

@forgetthehousework I bet you look amazing. Some of my best friends are goths (I am not I just have my own style) and they are creative, intelligent and the most down to earth friendly and nice people. Done people just can’t handle that others might look a bit different.
