British Seaside Towns revival ? Where to go that is naice.

I wonder if lack of travel will revive the British seaside at all.
It has been sometime since I have visited the UK coast but have memories of the majority of places I went having shabby hotels and some very down at the heel shops and pubs.
I'd love to find out if in my absence which places have improved or potentially will to gain back tourists.

Whitby is good for atmosphere and laughing at goths

You can fuck right off if that's why you go.

what fuck is wrong with you?
Goth weekend is where like minded people go to enjoy life away from twats like you.

how spiteful do you have to be to promote as a sport.

I’m suprised my town hasn’t been mentioned. It’s normally heaving at this time of the year, was all alone for my morning swim today though.

I went to Cornwall last year for the first time in about 6 years. It was so, so much busier than it used to be. Mostly posh people too by the sounds/ looks of it. It wasn’t that long ago that you’d be sneered at for a Cornwall holiday.

Those of us who go every year have got all the good places booked up already Grin

Racheyg · 07/05/2020 17:10

Minnis bay in Kent is beautiful, sandy and clean.

CasparBloomberg · 07/05/2020 17:23

Like someone earlier in thread we’ve taken a Uk holiday every year and we have been trying new places off the beaten track. Sadly in England we found everything is overdeveloped or too busy (But would love to find somewhere that isn’t, so will watch this thread keenly).
We were due to be near Porthmadog at half term but we expect that to be cancelled.

Highly recommend South Wales (from the Gower to Tenby), Northern Ireland and east coast of Scotland, they are all beautiful. Best beaches we’ve ever been on, were virtually empty, sandy and massive. Some lovely towns and villages to visit too, especially in Scotland they reminded me of Cornwall before the tourists arrived. My kids still say the 2 weeks we spent on Scottish coast were the best holiday they ever had, and they are quite well travelled.

Right, those of you who've sneered! Morecambe is a bit tatty but you could have a very fun cheap holiday there. You're on a good train line and the Lakes are a hop, skip and jump away. Lancaster has a castle and museums. Morecambe has The Platform which has good gigs on. Morecambe Bay is epic; not even an exaggeration. Get on the train towards Grange over Sands. There's Leighton Moss nearby, and a shortish drive up to Foulshaw with the ospreys.
Also, who is dissing New Brighton?! It was an absolute hole when I was a kid (we used to go on the ferry) but it's a lot better now.

Vicbarbarkley · 07/05/2020 17:39

@CasparBloomberg I hesitate to say this, but if you are fed up with overdeveloped areas, come north.
Every beach in Northumberland is simply stunning. Lots of castles, incredible countryside, history, tea rooms and very few tourists 😁

As for Whitby, we go twice a year, just for Goth weekends, and I am awestruck at the outfits. Simply incredible. Every time I go, I am determined to parade next time......but lack the confidence.

Bloodybridget · 07/05/2020 17:41

I think people are being a bit over dramatic about Disgrace's post, he seems to be a very nice chap from his other posts on MN. I'm sure he didn't mean he stands jeering aloud at the Goths, just that he's entertained by some of the more extreme appearances. Calling him a bully and comparing him to murderous thugs is silly.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 07/05/2020 17:44

Proper goths are ALL laughing at the Whitby polyester hovercraft goths, anyway...Wink.

Agree N Norfolk is lovely.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 07/05/2020 17:54

'm sure he didn't mean he stands jeering aloud at the Goths, just that he's entertained by some of the more extreme appearances.

So if you don't jeer aloud, but just go to play "Spot A Goth" and inwardly snigger instead, that's A-OK?
Biscuit
Because if you're (general you) looking at someone and inwardly laughing, you're probably being a lot less subtle than you think you are and definitely being a massive dick.

Bloodybridget · 07/05/2020 18:01

Perhaps Disgrace has got a massive dick! Sorry. Can't take this seriously.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 07/05/2020 18:07

Can't take this seriously

You can't take it seriously that people have an issue with people laughing at others because of the way they look?!
That says more about you than it does anyone else.
What the fuck is up with this place lately?!

Bloodybridget · 07/05/2020 18:09

It's become a very angry place, that's for sure.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 07/05/2020 18:13

It's become a very angry place, that's for sure

People stirring up hate, or defending it, yeah tends to have that effect

Jocasta2018 · 07/05/2020 18:14

I drove along most of the Causeway Coastal Route in Northern Ireland on a glorious sunny day in October 2018. We stumbled across White Park Bay - a glorious 2 mile long beach that we had all to ourselves.
I'd love to go back to NI and drive the route again but take more time over it, enjoy the coves & beaches (without having to hurry back to Belfast to take the hire car back!).

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 07/05/2020 18:16

Southwold or Whitby are my favourites. Or Aldeburgh.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 07/05/2020 18:16

Lordy. Goths, like all tribes based on appearance are both admirable in their attention to detail, and amusing because life's too short. Contempt and ridicule are NOT what I'm about.

As for massive dickage, there's only one person who knows one way or the other. We've been together for 31 years though...

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 07/05/2020 18:20

That's not what you said in your original post though, that you found them amusing as life's too short - you just said go to Whitby as it's good to laugh at Goths.
Sounds like backpedalling as have been called out on it.

lachy · 07/05/2020 18:32

Beaches I love:

Wales...
Llangranog
Tresaith
Whitesands

UK...
Fowey
Studland
Teignmouth
Crantock

Bertoldbrecht · 07/05/2020 18:49

Love Whitby and Northumberland but prices for holiday cottages have climbed massively over the last couple of years. Was really struggling to find anything decent in our price range (£600-700 for 4 ) before the covid thing kicked off.

BurneyFanny · 07/05/2020 18:55

I know Disgrace IRL, he’s one of life’s good guys.

Don’t go to Walberswick, it’s blooming horrible.

Figgygal · 07/05/2020 18:58

We tend to take the kids to Torbay
Some of the area is a bit past it’s best but Brixham is beautiful old fishing village with nice walks and beaches. Ferry to Torquay.
Good local attractions for the family.

Redcar isn't it?Grin

Barafundle Bay, Pembrokeshire (National Trust - tea room too!) but you have to walk along the cliff top to the beach. No facilities- no toilets!

Weymouth- choice of sandy beaches, pebble beach and a pretty harbour. Lots of coastal and countryside walks.
