Does anyone else *whisper* not like summer that much?

I love autumn and winter. I love being wrapped up in big sweaters, I love being cozy inside when it's cold and lashing down outside, I love Christmas, I love hot chocolates with marshmallows after a freezing walk with the dog.

I hate being too hot. I hate being sweaty. I hate not being able to sleep because I'm clammy. I hate having to get on with normal life when I'm bloody boiling and uncomfortable.

I'm sure this is highly controversial but aside from the odd barbecue which I enjoy, or a holiday abroad when it's hot which I don't mind as there is usually air con in the bedroom and I don't have to do anything I don't want to do and can just sit in cafes and drink cold beer, I wish summer would sod off.

We bought an air con unit last year and it's a bloody godsend but it's only for one room.

I hate summer. I hope lockdown lasts all summer so I don’t feel I have to be outside and pretend to enjoy it.

WindsorBlues · 07/05/2020 11:54

I love Autumn. The smells, colours shift in weather and how much cosier the house feels when it's darker at night time and I can't have my thick blankets over the sofa and my candles lit.

Sumner is probably my least favourite season, two much pressure to get out and do things while the weather is good

Imonlydoingwhatican · 07/05/2020 12:00

Elements of summer i like, going to beach, being social with friends. But i hate being to hot makes me ill. I hate the wasps, flys. The constant need for ice lollies from the kids. My husband loves it and forces me to do things outside when im sweaty, i also have very light sensitive eyes even cloudy days i have to wear sunglasses (i have a mole on the back of my eye which has to be monitored at hospital every so often to make sure it doesnt develop into cancer) so the extra bright light/ uv is a worry. Give me winter cold frosty morning walks that sparkle. Snow, christmas snuggling with the kids.

DateandTime · 07/05/2020 12:00

I love this kind of summery weather but I agree once we get to the hot humid weather if high summer.

I'm also rubbish at summer clothes, I hate sandals, flip flops are just out of the question and usually I add interest to basics jeans and t shirt outfits with a scarf or jacket which you can't do in when it's hot.

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/05/2020 12:04

Heat rash. Sunburn. Hay fever. Insects. Too hot to sleep. Bright too early in the morning. Burning seat belts.

There are good things but ^ outweigh them most of the time.

ExpletiveDelighted · 07/05/2020 12:06

Yes, me. I love spring and autumn. Not winter so much though as I like long hours of daylight. May and September are my favourite months.

Sn0tnose · 07/05/2020 12:08

I hate it too.

If you leave your windows open past a certain time, then the smell of weed comes wafting in or, if your selfish bastard neighbours have buggered off to smoke somewhere else, you’ve got a battalion of moths and various other bugs who are determined to make your house their new home. Everyone thinks that they have the best taste in music and that the rest of the world needs to know about it. It’s impossible to find a fan that doesn’t just blow warm air at you. You’re constantly feeling clammy & sweaty. Chocolate melts. Everything is sticky.

Roll on autumn.

Sn0tnose · 07/05/2020 12:09

I forgot the wasps!

isittheholidaysyet · 07/05/2020 12:10

My DS, can't cope if the temperature goes beyond 10°c.

BrandyandBabycham · 07/05/2020 12:14

I’m lucky to live by the sea so it’s pleasant with the breeze. I do like summer but don’t cope with humid weather very well. Spring & early Autumn are my favourite seasons.

WellTidy · 07/05/2020 12:15

I’m not a big summer lover. I can’t sweat (anhidrosis) so I just swell and bloat as I keep drinking masses and masses to regulate my temperature. And then my hand and feet get massive. And my sandals get too tight. And then my clothes gel too tight.

And I don’t tan, only burn.

And I need to lose weight so I prefer to cover up.

I love summer morning and evenings though. I love eating outside. I love a few drinks on the patio.

I love everything about spring and autumn.

Pandoraslastchance · 07/05/2020 12:15

Ugh I hate summer. I love spring and autumn.

Dont get me wrong a nice warm day with a breeze, you know the sort where you dont need a jacket, is lovely but when it's too hot it becomes oppressive and miserable plus there are only so many layers that can be removed.

DarylDixonsHair · 07/05/2020 12:15

Reported this thread and logged it with 101 in case all your moaning scares off the little bit of nice weather we've been having lately. Winter sucks dicks and anything below 20 is too cold. 👩‍⚖️

rosie1959 · 07/05/2020 12:18

No sorry just hate winter and ruddy Christmas
Much prefer long days and sunshine Was so looking forward to spring until this virus turned up and spoiled it
Could have coped with being housebound in late autumn and winter but not now

whatyouwalkingbout · 07/05/2020 12:18

Heathens. My children are like you and I don't understand how I birthed humans that don't like spreading out on the grass and snooze in the sun or spending a day jumping between sweltering beach and lukewarm sea. It's my greatest parenting failure.

StewPots · 07/05/2020 12:21

Hate summer, I'm not a sun worshipper, I don't sleep well at the best of times and in summer I get 3 hours solid a night at best. Winter that increases to 6.

I have an inflammatory condition that reacts well to heat treatment, but it's impossible in the height of summer to sit with a hot water bottle on your chest or have a hot bath - believe me I spent most of last yea trying!

I hate the enforced cheerfulness because the sun is out. I get very hot very quickly so I spend months uncomfortable. I can't eat proper home cooked food as it's too warm so live on sandwiches etc and my weight creeps up ( I lose usually a stone or more in winter ).

I'm not a summer fan and I'm already anxious about the heat already :/ also summer has always been a time of massive trauma for me, all the bad stuff that's happened always seems to hit around May- September.

Yuk.

Faircastle · 07/05/2020 12:21

Things I don't like:

  • Anything over 20°C makes me uncomfortable
  • Being in direct sunlight makes me feel ill
  • Pollen makes me sneezy and wheezy and my soft palate swells up
  • An insect bite causes half my limb to swell up
  • Having to listen to other people's music makes me stressed and irritable
  • Cultural pressure to be outside "making the most of it makes me irrationally angry

In winter I am actually quite a laid-back person.

ExpletiveDelighted · 07/05/2020 12:28

I'm extremely grateful the lockdown is now and not winter, it has been made much more bearable by being able to have windows and doors open, use the garden and go for walks in the evenings after work. But in general I hate hot weather, that heatwave a couple of years ago was awful.

firstimemamma · 07/05/2020 12:29

Yanbu, it gets too hot for me too op.

NaomiFromMilkShake · 07/05/2020 12:31

I love it since I dropped five and half stone, love the pretty clothes I can now wear, hate the mossies, but overall I love it.

DappledThings · 07/05/2020 12:32

Loads of us! There's usually a long running thread each summer where we commiserate with each other as the temperature rises.

But in one disagreement from your OP I hate the word sweater. It is a jumper. JUMPER!!

ScarfLadysBag · 07/05/2020 12:33

Haha I don't even know why I used sweater as I say jumper myself Confused Weird. I'd just been looking at clothes online so maybe why!

Pixilicious · 07/05/2020 12:35

I’m not a fan of summer, much prefer all of the other seasons. I don’t like being hot and sweaty, don’t like summer clothes, especially for work, and I don’t like sitting outside without shade as i burn horribly.

SnuggyBuggy · 07/05/2020 12:36

I wouldn't mind a few weeks of summer but it goes on too long for me
