Extra pizza delivery box

LynetteScavo · 06/05/2020 11:05

So last night I ordered two for one pizza and three boxes arrived (one empty). At first I thought I'd messed up the order as I'd be having
trouble ordering from my phone and DC kept changing their minds about which topping and crust they wanted. But no, the box was empty with my name and "misc" on the sticker.

Having Googled apparently it's what happens with door step deliveries now, but I also read you're supposed to leave to empty box for the delivery person to take away Confused. Have I committed some novice takeaway delivery faux pas?

Eh? Why would they give you an empty box to take it away again?

OldEvilOwl · 06/05/2020 11:19

That doesn't make any sense though? They are only coming to your doorstep once, so why would they return for an empty box?

conduitoffortune · 06/05/2020 11:20

I'm watching this for an answer because I wondered the same!

MotheringShites · 06/05/2020 11:21

This happened to us as well! I assumed it was used to pad out the delivery bag.

Maybe they’re supposed to put the empty box down first so the pizza isn’t sitting on cold ground??? Only thing I can come up with.

OculusThrift · 06/05/2020 11:21

Did they leave the boxes on the floor? If so, that's probably why, the empty box was on the floor, saving the actual pizza boxes making contact with it.

spiderlight · 06/05/2020 11:22

We had the same - just a plain brown cardboard pizza box - and assumed that it was so our actual food boxes weren't on the floor.

TheQueef · 06/05/2020 11:22

It's an inside out one so they don't leave food on the floor.
Nothing more.

PomeloPill · 06/05/2020 11:22

It's to leave the actual pizza boxes on, so they're not on the floor.

Chesterfuckingdrorrs · 06/05/2020 11:24

Oh god I got a dominoes delivery last night and took in the spare box too 😱

The delivery driver was already back in his car ready to go so I assumed the spare box was to be picked up too! I know it's there to keep the order off the ground etc.
For contamination purposes I thought it was to be taken in and disposed of. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. and never ordering a pizza again incase I'm wrong!

Mrsemcgregor · 06/05/2020 11:24

It’s so the box doesn’t touch the floor isn’t it? You only touch the boxes on top and they take the bottom box to reuse as a floor barrier for the next customer?

Whitney101 · 06/05/2020 11:25

This happened to me and I can’t express the disappointment when I realised it wasn’t an extra pizza 😂

AntiSocialDistancer · 06/05/2020 11:26

Is it so they can place it on the floor without your pizza getting cold, so you pick up the top two boxes and leave the bottom?

I've been overthinking about my nice takeaway being dumped on a doorstep, even if it is my own. That's where all the posties and delivery drivers cough surely Confused

CockCarousel · 06/05/2020 11:28

Oh no, I keep taking the empty box in. Am I supposed to leave it on the doorstep for the driver to take away and re-use?

DuchessUke · 06/05/2020 11:32

Whitney101 lol that could have been me.

BarbaraofSeville · 06/05/2020 11:40

Well you'd think they'd explain all this on their website rather than people not know and pick up all the boxes, adding to cost and waste of boxes.

It's not like none of them have a whacking great 'Covid19' statement of some sort on their website is it?

But then, most people don't seem to read most of the information that is clearly put in front of them anyway.

AngusThermopyle · 06/05/2020 11:41

We have this from Dominos.
Delivery person said it's because they have to put the food on the ground outside so the empty one goes on the ground first.
They never want them back though as they've already left and are near their car by the time door is opened.

vodkaredbullgirl · 06/05/2020 11:43

It is so the other pizza boxes are not left on a cold ground. We had this last week.

Isitweekendyet · 06/05/2020 11:52

We had this! I didn't realise I was supposed to leave it!

Has anyone actually left the box and had it taken away? Surely that's a contamination risk?

vodkaredbullgirl · 06/05/2020 11:58

No, i just put it in the recycle bin. When he dropped them off, he didnt mention giving it back.

user200000000 · 06/05/2020 12:01

I worked out what it was for after I'd taken the empty box in. I'll leave it there next time.

MaggieFS · 06/05/2020 12:02

We had this last week. Makes sense that our pizzas weren't put on the ground. Don't think the guy hung around for the spare box. Also seems a bit daft if he was supposed to as you might touch it when picking up your pizza and then the next person and so on - germ spread ahoy!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/05/2020 12:06

We had a delivery to our car on Monday... They put the whole pile in the boot, so presumably if they wanted the spare back they woul have taken it then?

(Food delivery drivers can't access our address, so we meet at the security checkpoint, they just ask you to open your boot and not get out he car(

Khione · 06/05/2020 12:07

If you order another take away - leave an empty box on your step for them to leave it on. Doesn't matter even if it isn't a pizza box - just anything you can put there to keep your pizza off the floor. It will save them wasting any more boxes.

I very much doubt many, if any, of the drivers hang around to pick up the box so I wouldn't worry about that.

Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2020 12:07

Sounds very good, making sure the box on the floor has no pizza in it-well done them.

PeazlyPops · 06/05/2020 12:18

You're meant to leave the empty box alone, so that the driver can check you've collected the others I think?!
