When did your child sit up?

DS didn't sit up until nearly 7 months so I always thought that was about average.

DD has just gone 4 months and I swear she's looking like she's almost there, but I don't know if I'm being delusional!

DS1 was 5.5m when he could sit up for a few seconds on the floor.

DS2 is 12 weeks and sits up on my lap for a bit before his head topples him over.

Dk20 · 03/05/2020 20:42

Ds1 was 8 months, I think he was a small bit behind.
Ds2 loved sitting up (supported ) from 2 months and sat independently just before 6months.

Witchend · 03/05/2020 20:44

DD1 was a week before 6 months.
Dd2 was about 10/11 months before she sat reliably. That was because she crawled at 5.5months so if you tried to get her to sit, she just flung herself on her front and crawled off.
Ds was about 6 months.

DS1 was five months when he could sit unaided. I can't remember when the younger two did.

Lala241280 · 03/05/2020 20:46

Terrible mum I really can’t remember but o can remember daughter walked at nine months , son was 10 months

ktjb39 · 03/05/2020 20:47

One child sat up at about 6 months, the other one couldn't sit up until he started crawling at 9 months.

SeraphinaDombegh · 03/05/2020 20:50

4 months and 5 months for my two, but they were both quite early on a lot of the physical stuff.

butterry · 03/05/2020 20:53

Babies vary so much! Mine were 6 and 9 months. My friend had a child that sat at 3 months and crawled at 5 months!

thunderthighsohwoe · 03/05/2020 20:53

5 months but she never crawled, and was then miserable until she cruised at 10 months - she could see everything but puked every time she tried to get to it (reflux + being on her tummy = bad move)

ScarfLadysBag · 03/05/2020 20:54

Five months, but didn't crawl till 10 months or so. 14mo and just started walking unaided in the last 10 days!

She was always happier being sat up than on the floor on her tummy etc.

Minai · 03/05/2020 21:04

Ds1 was exactly 6 months. Ds2 was 7 months.

Bubbletrouble43 · 03/05/2020 21:33

None of my 3 could sit up well until way past 9 months, though one perfected the w sit. They were early crawlers though.

wtftodo · 03/05/2020 21:43

4.5 months first child and 4 months 1 week second child. So it’s possible! Also both crawled etc q soon. I didn’t realise first time round it was fairly early as the three babies we saw most frequently were all also sitting up around 5months.

lboogy · 03/05/2020 21:45

5.5m but was really tripodding rather than sitting comfortably

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 03/05/2020 21:47

6 months ish, but he didn't have the core strength to hold himself for long, until almost 8 months.

H1978 · 03/05/2020 21:47

All dcs started sitting at 5 months

mistermagpie · 03/05/2020 22:17

Can't remember with DS1 but I remember with DS2 because he couldn't sit up properly until he walked, which he did at 13 months. He could roll and crawl and all that, really well, but just couldn't sit up!

DD is 5.5 months and can't sit unaided. She's quite small though so I figure she'll maybe be behind a little bit on the physical stuff.

SophieInTheSky · 03/05/2020 22:37

DS started sitting at 5.5 months.

Poetryinaction · 03/05/2020 22:52

5 months.
My friend had a baby yesterday and she has a photo of her on facebook today. The newborn is supporting herself on her arms... looks almost like she's crawling, with her head held high!

SunflowerSeedsForever · 03/05/2020 23:18

1st child by 12 weeks- can see her sitting in holiday photos at 12 weeks- held head up from birth. She was crawling everywhere by 6 months and walked at 9

2nd child- much much later- 6 months at least . Never crawled, didn't walk until 14 months

All children are different- just wait for them to go at their own pace.

Laaalaaaa · 07/05/2020 19:58

My child is 6.5 months and not sitting and I’m really struggling with this. I know you’re not meant to compare but it’s hard when you see pictures of 4 month olds comfortably sitting and we’re not there. It makes me feel like I’ve failed them.

Boringnamechanging · 07/05/2020 20:11

About 5.5 months I believe for both of my mine I believe

PowerslidePanda · 07/05/2020 21:18

5.5m but was really tripodding rather than sitting comfortably

I was just going to ask what counts as sitting! My DTs are 6 months and have been "sitting" for a few weeks, but only by leaning forward and using their hands to support themselves - they can't sit fully upright unaided.

InMyOwnParticularIdiom · 07/05/2020 21:23

DD was 7 months and I was getting worried as it was later than most of her friends. She didn't crawl until 10 months but then caught up with her age group and was walking by 13 months.

Ladyglitterfairydust · 07/05/2020 21:29

Ds was about 5 months, but he was always very strong. He could crawl up the stairs by 8 months. Dd was much later. She was just so floppy. I think she was probably around 8 months at least and she couldn’t crawl until about 11.5 months and didn’t walk until at least 14 months. She’s absolutely fine now and you’d never know she was much later than her brother.
