When did your child sit up?

DS didn't sit up until nearly 7 months so I always thought that was about average.

DD has just gone 4 months and I swear she's looking like she's almost there, but I don't know if I'm being delusional!

They totally vary a lot. I have four dc and one of mine was five months, another was nine months. I guess the other two were somewhere in between but I can’t remember!

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 07/05/2020 21:31

The one who sat at 9 months crawled at 11 months and walked at 18 months. He got there!

SockQueen · 07/05/2020 22:18

DS1 sat at 5 months on the dot. DS2 about 5.5 months. Both slow to actually move anywhere though - DS1 didn't walk till 19 months and DS2 is 11m and not crawling/pulling up/anything beyond a bit of a bum shuffle.

3 months. He was very early in meeting all this physical milestones as a baby but he’s now the most uncoordinated 10 year old 😂.

GrumpyHoonMain · 07/05/2020 22:28

My DS likes sitting and so he tried and began sitting for a few secs from 4.5 months. He’s now 5 months and able to play sitting provided he’s got something behind him as he’s still a bit unsteady. Having said that my premie DN started sitting by himself at 3 months (actual age not adjusted) and was shuffling across rooms as fast as anything from 6 months (walking by 10) - so I always have to check myself when I think my DS is behind.

When ds was 4 days old, the midwife doing a home visit told me he’d be an early walker (didn’t believe her, just thought she was being nice). Ds was 4 months sitting up using his hands and a bit wobbly. He was sitting independently just before 5 months. Crawling at 7 months and walking by 9.5 months. All good, but now at 17 months you wouldn’t see that much difference between him and his friends. I don’t think any of it makes a difference. They learn to do things at their own pace and if they’re neuro-typical then I highly doubt you could tell which child walked/sat/rolled early or not. By the age of 3 they all look the same!

I wish my son had walked a little later because his walking over-lapped his non-sleeping stage and I actually think I was torture! My friend’s son didn’t sit until 8 months and has now started walking at 17 months- he’s still a curious, smart and funny little boy!

Being able to get themselves to a sitting position or propping them to sit?

For mine it was 11 months for oldest, 9 months for youngest for putting themselves to sit

JustStayHome · 07/05/2020 23:18

Every child is different.
My nephew was very slow in everything, to the point i seriously thought there was something wrong with him.
Now his above average in most things, some by a year or two...

Children do things at there own pace

bluebluezoo · 07/05/2020 23:20

Mine didn’t.

She didn’t do much til 5.5m when she figured out how to roll, then rolled everywhere at top speed for a bit.

At 7.5m she got up and started cruising, again at top speed, walking independently a few weeks later.

Missed all the sitting, crawling etc phases.

FourPlasticRings · 07/05/2020 23:20

Sat up unsupported from a recline at 2-3 months but not from flat until about five months, IIRC.

CaryStoppins · 07/05/2020 23:21

One of mine was 18 weeks! Could support himself if you place him seated but obviously couldn't sit himself up at that age. Was crawling before 6 months too.

The other too were 7/8 months.

All walked at pretty much the same age though around 11 months.

Shmithecat2 · 07/05/2020 23:23

Properly, reliably, unaided - about 7mo. Crawled at 10mo, walked at 13mo.
