Even being sick after a c section ?

I had two vaginal births. I was sick during my first labour, but not my second. I think it was the gas and air that did it first time round, so I didn’t have any with my second!

Mylittlepony374 · 03/05/2020 09:15

Sick and Vomited a LOT when both labour's started. Also then vomited on anaesthetist in theatre with baby 1 when they prepping me for section (forceps delivery in end) but that was medication induced.

Doobedoobedoobe2020 · 03/05/2020 09:18

Yup. I was being sick on myself during my emergency c section. Grim but at that point I literally could not have given two hoots.

I was very sick straight after my first birth and for about an hour but that was caused by the injection they give to expel the placenta. Second time round I declined the injection and wasn’t sick.

inwood · 03/05/2020 09:20

I was sick before during and after my c section. The before bit through pain and the rest I assume through the medication.

maa1992 · 03/05/2020 09:20

I was sick after an elective C-Section, I think it was because of low blood sugar because I had a sugary cup of tea and I felt abit better. I did need anti-sickness through the night after the C-Section.

I don't know if it's common, the lady opposite me was very sick. She threw up a lot after an emergency section.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 03/05/2020 09:23

Vomed during transition of an induced labour and during the stitching up bit of a c-section. The latter I always put down to the antibiotics I was given as I know I’m sensitive to them as tablets.

BlindedByThe · 03/05/2020 09:29

Yes, and I wasn't expecting it at all which seems crazy now looking back and reading this thread for example, where so many women experienced it.
In my case I was induced and things ramped up from nothing to very intense, very quickly, and that's when the vomiting started, so I assumed it was a reaction to the drugs.
My hypnobirthing focused on pain (or rather "pressure"). The vomiting was quite out of control.

keepingbees · 03/05/2020 09:37

I was sick all through my first labour. Not sure if it was the induction drip or the gas and air but I felt horrendous throughout.
Second labour nothing. Third labour I was sick once at transition.
I felt sicky for a while afterwards too, I think it's probably the shock, exhaustion and hormones.

Daisychainsandglitter · 03/05/2020 09:37

Was sick in labour with DD1. I'd had contractions on and off with her for three days and hadn't slept properly. Combined with the pain of transition I couldn't stop vomiting.
DD2 I wasn't sick and wasn't naseous but was a much more straightforward birth.

Tiredmum100 · 03/05/2020 09:50

For me yes. I was sick during both my labours and after with dc1(but felt so much better after that!). I projectile vomited, black stuff eventually, all the way to the bottom of the bed 🤢 with dc2. I had a brand new nightie cut off and thrown out because there was no saving it.

Ilovethekittehs · 03/05/2020 09:52

I was sick all over myself and then projectile vomited during c section all over my partner. Ah find memories

Fairylillie · 03/05/2020 09:55

I've given birth twice and I wasn't sick during either. It's a common symptom but doesn't happen to everyone.

Pertella · 03/05/2020 10:14

I did with my second. Dry heaving whilst having contractions wasnt fun Grin

thethoughtfox · 03/05/2020 10:15

I was sick a lot in early labour.

Xenia · 03/05/2020 10:19

I had 5 vaginal births. I am pretty sure once or twice during labour I was sick. The mid wife had a special bowl ready for it so it must be fairly common. After - no.

Hibbetyhob · 03/05/2020 11:52

Not at all with my first but a lot after emcs with my second. I had nothing in me so it was just dry retching - very grim. But passed after a couple of hours & they were really good at giving me anti-emetics.

Thelnebriati · 03/05/2020 11:54

It can be a side effect from anaesthetic but it can also be a symptom, so

if you have a temperature, or notice any odour or discharge phone 999.

vampirethriller · 03/05/2020 13:03

Yes, before and during emergency section.

exerciseinmypyjamas · 03/05/2020 13:18

Birth number 1 was a vomit fest. Ad the pethidine they gave me made me hallucinate it wasnt much fun and I ended up on an antiemetic drip ffs as the injectable medication didnt work.

Second time around my birth plan had 3 things in it.
No pethidine
Yes epidural
Plenty of anti emetics please.
Turns out in my case the antiemetic drugs worked better when given before I started to feel sick.

Mrsfrumble · 03/05/2020 13:28

Yes, both times. First time the anaesthetist had just walked in to the room to do my epidural with a student in tow, so along with DH and a couple of midwives I had a lovely audience (not that I cared at that point). Second time I was in the birthing pool with DH holding the sick bowl, and the midwife shouting at him “you’d better catch it all! If it goes in the pool we’ll have to drain it!” Poor DH!

JimmyTheWeed · 03/05/2020 14:05

I can remember being violently sick within seconds of giving birth. The midwife said that it was extremely common and was probably due to either the pethidine I'd been given or the gas and air.

justjuggling · 03/05/2020 14:08

I was sick during a c-section. Everyone was very kind, cleaned me up, found me a bowl etc.

Hoppinggreen · 03/05/2020 14:08

I managed to throw Ds at DH just before I vommed all over him, midwife said it wasn’t unusual but that I was lucky I’d been so quick as she had seen women vom ON their newborn before
I was gutted as I’d just had my post delivery tea and toast, which is the nicest meal know to (wo)mankind

Kaykay066 · 03/05/2020 14:08

Was fine during, but sick with all 3 afterwards because I’d had tea and toast but was so hungry but took till no4 to decline the tea and toast so no sick but was horrible as I was sore. Felt nauseous with them all and had anti sickness injection with no3 I think and maybe no4 to shut me up as I told them I was in labour and they kept laughing at me but were somewhat shocked when he was delivered in ward 20 mins later, 4th baby so of course I knew I was in labour.
