yes, it is weird.

"Anyone can get it!"
"Yes, I think I got it actually and -"
"NO YOU DIDN'T that was obviously hay fever."

Tappering · 04/05/2020 21:09

I finally managed to get my car repaired at the end of last week (long story, involving four separate garages!). I went to the supermarket today and drove to one a bit further away. Driving for a short hop on the motorway with some music playing, made me feel better. I realised how much I miss being able to go out, and driving in general - my job involved a lot of driving and travel pre-lockdown.

EskiSummerleaze · 04/05/2020 21:13

I love this thread Smile
Just joining Thor 'maybe I did have it' party too, I was signed off work for six weeks over December and early jan. they never worked out what it was just 'flu like virus' but I had all the symptoms of covid, felt absolutely rubbish. I was referred to a neurologist and al sorts to try and get to the bottom of what was happening. Again though, nobody I was with had any symptoms so it's probably unlikely. Interesting though

EskiSummerleaze · 04/05/2020 21:13

Sorry *the not Thor Hmm

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/05/2020 21:22

"NO YOU DIDN'T that was obviously hay fever."

And I got “how do you KNOW it’s hay fever”? and told I shouldn’t be going out!

Drivingdownthe101 · 04/05/2020 21:25

PinkSparklyPussyCat I got told that even though I know it’s hayfever, I shouldn’t be going out in case I have asymptomatic Covid and spread it everywhere when I cough from my hayfever.
I imagine if I’d said I had Covid the same poster would say ‘no you don’t, your symptoms are too mild’!

psychomath · 04/05/2020 21:26

I read something on here I think quite near the start about how that we in the west have an expectation that we will live well into old age and that every problem has a solution.

That might have been me - I definitely had this thought, don't remember whether I posted about it here or not. I think it's a part of the reason why so many people are really angry at the government. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't say their response has been perfect by any means, but some people seem to vastly overestimate the amount they could realistically have done to protect us. We're (thankfully) so used to having some form of public safety net for everything that might go wrong in our lives, from illness to job loss to being falsely accused of a crime, that I think some people struggle to accept that the government can't save us from everything, and that's where you get this weird attitude that they could have stopped all this if they wanted but for some reason chose not to.

I haven't experienced the death of anyone close to me (apart from grandparents, but that's to be expected) and it's one of my biggest fears. I'm perpetually terrified that someone I love will die in an accident or sudden illness and have been since I was a teenager. But apart from the few weeks where there were so many awful stories coming out of Italy about people not getting treatment because the hospitals were overwhelmed, I haven't been particularly worried about the virus at all. Now this conversation is making me wonder if that isn't so strange as I first thought - perhaps I was so worried about all the unlikely things that might kill people anyway that it just feels like one more thing among many, and so doesn't change the perceived risk that much.

Willitneverend · 04/05/2020 21:28

I know a few people who have had a worse than usual winter cold this year, including me and DH - we both had a cough that took ages to go. I guess we'll find out when the antibody tests come out.

psychomath · 04/05/2020 21:35

Speaking of mild cases, I'm pretty sure I had it about a month ago - I got a cough and 'covid toes' at the same time, and I'm in a place that's had a lot of cases. It was so mild that I honestly don't think I'd even have noticed if it weren't for the fact that we're all hyper paranoid about coughing at the moment. I have lung damage too so I was fully expecting it to make me feel horrendous.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/05/2020 21:44

We might have been on the same thread Drivingdownthe101! I was told the same thing. I asked if I was supposed to stay in from February until September and was told I should.

Drivingdownthe101 · 04/05/2020 21:47

Yes I was told the same Grin

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/05/2020 21:51

I must let work know that if they open the office before September I won’t be able to go back.

I read something recently discussing whether a rash is a symptom. Not only do I cough up a lung regularly but I also have a rash (eczema) - quarantining isn’t good enough for me, the dementors will have me shot!

MagdaS · 04/05/2020 22:14

I remember the poster telling people with hayfever they should stay in from February to September. Completely batshit.

userxx · 04/05/2020 22:32

I think I belong in here.

sonjadog · 04/05/2020 22:41

What are "covid toes"?

JingsMahBucket · 04/05/2020 22:45

I’ve never posted on this thread but I saw this post count and couldn’t resist telling you all. Grin

Dementors can dement but we'll keep it positive here
Booboodisney · 04/05/2020 22:48

Covid in my fingers
Covid in my toes
Dementors all around me
And so my anger grows

everythingisginandroses · 04/05/2020 23:08

@sonjadog 'covid toes' is something like chillblains where your toes go bluish and/or reddish and are painful. I didn't get this symptom myself, but DH did and was mystified, as he'd been home in self-isolation and he normally only gets chillblains if his feet have been cold and damp, e.g. after a long country walk in winter. Apparently it may have something to do with your lungs not functioning to full capacity so your extremities aren't quite oxygenated enough (?)

Willitneverend · 04/05/2020 23:09

@booboodisney love it!

I'm doing what feels like whack a mole on Facebook and muting anyone who is doom mongering.

everythingisginandroses · 04/05/2020 23:10

@JingsMahBucket every post on this thread has the Number of the Beast written right through it. That's the kind of thread this is Grin

HavartitoMeetYou · 05/05/2020 00:46

it's odd how some posters are really panicking about the pandemic, but simultaneously quick to rubbish people who believe they've had it.

It’s because those people have had the extreme ill grace to commit that most terrible of sins: getting better from COVID.

It’s almost like COVID doesn’t have a 100% fatality rate.

Robin233 · 05/05/2020 06:00

I think it's been around longer than we think too.
In a team of 7 in December we had 4 people go off with really bad colds/ flu symptoms one after the other.
I seemed to be ok, or maybe had the mild version. This was definitely something different for other and unusual ti have so many be off.
Also at the same time (I read) people were going in hospital with flu symptoms but testing negative for flu.

userxx · 05/05/2020 06:34

@Robin233 I agree. There was something strange going on in December, I was so out of breathe I was using my mums ventolin inhaler. Took about 4 weeks to fully get over it.

Mascotte · 05/05/2020 06:40

Hello.. can't believe I've just found this thread!

@Willitneverend I've done similar but included anyone "inspiring" 😃

TheKrakening3 · 05/05/2020 06:58

Australian schools are in the process of re-opening. Restaurants and cafes are not too far off. People will be able to go back to work. We are allowed recreational drives and picnics now. Sounds great right? But here come the dementors to suck the joy out of it!
