Interesting, yes the people I know who aren't worried about jobs etc only the virus are older women who for example husbands have final salary pensions and they have paid off mortgages, retired basically.

Willitneverend · 03/05/2020 13:38

There's a thread for people who are enjoying lockdown and last time I looked at wasnt people who were struggling financially.

What about "Go Out, Do Work, Get Pished Responsibly?"

Orangeblossom78 · 03/05/2020 13:38

They are going on about this as if it has already happened! (the 'bubble' idea). Sounds like a nightmare to be honest www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3898380-Social-bubble-of-ten-or-less

Orangeblossom78 · 03/05/2020 13:39

They will have a hard time convincing people it's safe after telling them it's not for such a long time

Alsohuman · 03/05/2020 13:43

They will. And that’s why it will end up with economic enforcement. The money taps will be turned off and school non attendance will be fined again.

Oh ffs, I sound like a bloody dementor!

Orangeblossom78 · 03/05/2020 13:43

I'm sorry but I found this quite funny. A rise in clapping related accidents Grin

Take care when you clap for carers (BBC) www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52506114

The Thursday evening clap for carers gets louder and more joyous every week. It is a deeply moving tribute that captures the very essence of our communal spirit in these times of adversity. It is also the only time communities now come together and generates a rare feeling of release and togetherness, a faint memory of a previous era.
But when people have gone out to clap we've seen interesting little peaks in accident rates that we weren't expecting.

People might need to be a bit more cautious, especially if they've been sitting down all day and then get up to clap. It might be one of the only times older people come outside and so there is a risk of falling and I'd just remind people to take care.

"The clap for carers has made us a little busier," says Richard Pilling, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Harrogate District Hospital.
"It's very nice that everyone is very enthusiastic about showing support but it's escalated, so people are coming out banging pans and seeing who can clap the loudest, and therein accidents lie.

"It's nice to walk on to your doorstep and show appreciation, it's a chance to see your neighbours, and it's lovely to see people sticking together during the lockdown. Just do it less vigorously - you don't have to be the loudest on the street."

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52506114

How risk averse and precious are we getting that the BBC now needs to tell us to take care while clapping to prevent injury? Confused

Orangeblossom78 · 03/05/2020 13:45

"Richard points out that some people have been exercising more than usual during the lockdown, but others have stopped exercising, and problems can occur when they suddenly get up and clap. They may fall and break a bone, for example.."

handslikecowstits · 03/05/2020 13:45

Hello all, glad I've found the new thread.

For the first three weeks of lockdown, I didn't go out. By the end of the third week I was so morose and constipated to fuck so I started to go for walks. I feel so much better and I've lost some weight, which I needed to do.

I imagine that the dementors think I've killed hundreds by doing this.

Orangeblossom78 · 03/05/2020 13:46

I'm not being mean, but surely most of that is common sense. And yes, people being sedentary at home is a risk for frailty and lower bone mass, yes. As most people with osteoporosis will be well aware.

Willitneverend · 03/05/2020 13:46

I dont think the government actually meant as many people to close businesses as actually happened. But guidelines were totally non existent and people were starting to go nuts at any form of commercial activity. They're really going to have to work hard to dig the nation out of the psychological hole we're in.

Orangeblossom78 · 03/05/2020 13:48

That is exactly what they are saying today Willitneverend. and the next step is to tell them just that.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/05/2020 13:48

there used to be something called common sense. Remember that?

Richard points out that some people have been exercising more than usual during the lockdown, but others have stopped exercising, and problems can occur when they suddenly get up and clap. They may fall and break a bone, for example.."

Brillant! Also respect to whoever wrote that while keeping a straight face,

Teateaandmoretea · 03/05/2020 13:51

They will have a hard time convincing people it's safe after telling them it's not for such a long time

I think the main issue is that the world was never safe, but people considered it to be. DH and I throughout this have just seen it as increasing the normal life risk - we have been baffled by some of the reactions.

We are all more likely to die than pre-covid and ultimately we need to accept that as a society. Rather than expecting ‘safety’.

Orangeblossom78 · 03/05/2020 13:52

The BBC is so patronising at the moment. It never used to be this bad surely.

MagdaS · 03/05/2020 13:53

The dementors on MN made me really anxious at first. I hate lockdown and I felt wrong for even feeling that. Now I just roll my eyes at them. The exception to that was the thread saying people should just get over any mental health issues caused by lockdown which upset me, so I hid it.

I’ve had the virus, I think. My main symptom was breathlessness. I also had a sore throat to start with and an occasional cough (which has lingered). It lasted 10 days during which time I was able to continue to WFH throughout. I only gave up smoking in December but I have no other underlying conditions. At no point did I think I was going to die and the virus I had before Christmas was far far worse.

Teateaandmoretea · 03/05/2020 13:54

The clapping injuries thing is 🤦🏻‍♀️. Just goes to show though that the world isn’t safe

Orangeblossom78 · 03/05/2020 13:54

Yes you would think we'd be able to rationalise it perhaps a bit more Tea.

I think it's the constantly going on about 'stay safe' which is a bit much. I listen to Radio 6 music to escape the news but even they keep saying it.

Orangeblossom78 · 03/05/2020 13:56

Yes and why does the article not going on then to remind people to keep exercising and getting outside to get vitamin D and preserve their bones...instead of just being all precious. Might have been more helpful.

Doingitaloneandproud · 03/05/2020 13:56

@ChilliCheese123 let's hope so! Yes I'm beginning to think they have no worries financially, and no one they are missing much!

Orangeblossom78 · 03/05/2020 13:59

Magda I'm sorry to hear that, I know what you mean. Hopefully you got it out the way then if it was it. I'll keep trying to find other funny things to keep it all in perspective.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/05/2020 14:00

Imagine having to say you had an injury due to the clap...

The80sweregreat · 03/05/2020 14:01

I feel for the over 60s who are probably fitter than some 30 year olds and want to carry on. Plus many people over 60 and 70 still work and have to go to work ( haven't got a pension, or just like working !)
If the government say they have to carry on staying in , but other people can go out etc, I think they will go mad.
Seems to be the way it's going but I doubt they will stick to it after so many weeks stuck in.
The dementors better not mess with the fit and healthy 60 plus groups who are happy to go out safely.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/05/2020 14:06

Exactly that willitneverend my workplace didn't close immediately, but we're a local business and once word got out that our factory was still open the Dementors piled in on social media "naming and shaming" so my boss felt under pressure to close. I hope they reopen soon and they're looking at plans to do so with PPE.
