Hi, just need a bit of help. I'm writing a quiz and need one of the answers to be "Germany". It can't be too easy so I don't want anything along the lines of "in which country is Hamburg located"

Does anyone have a fun fact about Germany where the answer isn't too obscure or too obvious? My brain is addled! Thanks

If I remember Fanta was invented as cola couldn't be imported due to the second world war?

nauticant · 01/05/2020 21:56

I'm imagining a quiz in which every answer is "Germany". Once some of the teams cotton on, you're going to be looking at them all tying for first place.

Which country was Hitler first a citizen of? (Austria).

GameofPhones · 01/05/2020 22:10

Woops not exactly a fun fact, but interesting.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 01/05/2020 22:13

But the answer has to be Germany! This is a cancel the cheque style thread.

In which country is the office of a former despot now the office of the head of a prestigious music school.

Germany. Munich. Hitler's office.

The companies Adidas and Puma were founded by two brothers. Which country did they come from?

Dreeple · 01/05/2020 22:23

Where in the World are passing a test and buying a licence legal requirements for playing golf.

If they’ll have worked out that the answer starts with G, the Prince Philip question is a good one, given that he was born in Greece.

Years ago an English 5p fitted the cigarettes machines on street corners, instead of a German Mark which was worth 25p, thus meaning you could get very cheap cigarettes. found out on a German exchange circa 1983

So I'm not sure if it's a German wide thing or just the region of Germany, but I've had a few Easter weekends in Cologne and Dusseldorf, and music is banned on Good Friday. Once went to a disco that had all the mirror ball, lights etc going, but no music.

Also if this is Germany wide I'm not sure if they're the only country, so not sure if it's a good answer for your quiz but maybe worth some research?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/05/2020 23:40

Dinner for One is always shown in English, with quite a formal introduction. It is always the black and white version from the 50ties.

Good Friday used to be day of strict fasting and observance and in some regions the rules still apply and public dancing etc. is not allowed. I think today the rules are less strict, because our population is more diverse and less religious.

Der 'Berliner' is actually called 'Pfannkuchen' in Berlin.

Aldi is another firm founded by brothers (Albrecht and Dieter I think), there's Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord and they do not sell the same products.

indemMUND · 01/05/2020 23:52

Where do the industrial Metal band Rammstein hail from?

EdwardsNewJumper · 02/05/2020 07:10

Prokupatuscrakedatus that's really interesting re Aldi Süd und Aldi Nord. I had to go and google and see that the UK has Aldi Süd, along with Italy and south easterly Europe. France, Spain had Aldi Nord.

EdwardsNewJumper · 02/05/2020 07:15

Fraughtwithgin there is no racism on this thread, whatsoever, except, funnily enough your comment.

I've lived in Germany, albeit for two years and the UK is no more, no less narrow minded.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/05/2020 07:39

Edwards
Then you'll be able to get those 'rosmary flavoured flute snaks' DH misses so much - Aldi Nord dosn't sell them and he has to make do with onion flavour. Grin

reluctantbrit · 02/05/2020 09:43

@FraughtwithGin I am German, living in the UK now for 20 years. I can’t see any racism here.

I see comments about the Brits, called Inselaffen - Island monkeys - in Germany as I see stupid comments about the Germans here in the UK.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 02/05/2020 10:38

@FraughtwithGin I asked for fun facts fir a quiz question where the answer is Germany and people have answered. A couple of people have missed the point but I really cant see any racism.

Thanks to all those who have answered. I love some of these. I'm tempted towards the Fanta question.
