What is your favourite musical, stage or screen, and why? You can only pick one!
Name your best/favourite song from that musical - again only one!

It was my first WE show too. I saved my pocket money & holiday job money and came all the way to London on a coach from Staffordshire.

Juststop - JJ sang She Used to Be Mine at the concert. It was fabulous & as for Santa Fe......

On My Own from Les Mis - ultimate anthem to unrequited love.

I also love Beneath a Moonless Sky from Love Never Dies, but I can’t put it first. In as much as I think it executes perfectly a haunting requiem to a wasted love, the concept behind the storyline is utter bullshit and I find it hard to believe it was conceived by someone who had even seen Phantom, let alone written it. Musically though I think it’s a lovely song.

goingtotown · 30/04/2020 20:28

Blood Brothers. Tell me it’s not true.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/04/2020 21:06

Oh my goodness! So many to choose from.

One that stuck me is from a musical that really deserves to tour and tour but only showed in Bristol and Mold. Junkyard was gritty, sweary and very bloody funny. And some of the songs really pulled at your heartstrings and stuck in your head.

One was a classic 70s headteacher singing a song with the refrain 'Kids are shits!' which cracked me up!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/04/2020 21:09

Never before have I heard C* (hate that word, sorry) said so often on stage! I was supposed to be taking DD2 (11) to it and in the end had to take DD1 (17) instead.

DioneTheDiabolist · 30/04/2020 21:11

Gypsy.
Everything's Coming Up Roses.⚘

PiggyPlumPie · 30/04/2020 21:16

Just one! But that's so hard!

I think it will have to be Blood Brothers - Easy Terms

They're a pair, they go together 😭

Don't tell me which one, just take him, take him 😭

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 30/04/2020 21:17

Atm Im going with 2 by 2 from book of mormon. I love the classic broadway style, the excitement and hell 10 or so good looking young men dancing is always a winner.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 30/04/2020 21:19

The Sound Of Music - l Have Confidence. Proper feel good - she starts of nervous but literally sings her trepidation away!!

trockodile · 30/04/2020 21:19

Phantom of the opera but love them all, maybe wishing you were somehow here again, or past the point of no return cos it's hot

Comefromaway · 30/04/2020 21:25

Ds was lucky enough to be invited to go backstage at the BOM tour and sit with the band in the put during the show. Love Two By Two. And I Believe.

Devlesko · 30/04/2020 21:29

If we're allowed to applaud others, then AndAllOurYesterdays
Love Sondheim.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/04/2020 21:51

So....

Ghost - With You
Rent - La Vie Boheme
Blood Brothers - Tell me it's not true.
Rocky Horror - I'm going home (beautiful when Duncan James -from Blue) belted it out in his rich voice.

Willow2017 · 30/04/2020 22:00

I'm now thinking about Miss Saigon. I have just watched a video of Peter Polycarpou (original cast) singing Bui Doi, which sent shivers down my spine and had me welling up because of the real footage of the Vietnamese children.
It makes me cry every time. Heartbreaking, he sings it with such passion.

InTheCludgie · 30/04/2020 22:01

You've Got To Pick A Pocket or Two from Oliver! Is a favourite however I also love the ballet sequence from An American In Paris (know it's not a song but it stands out for me more than any of the actual songs)

SpicedCamomile · 30/04/2020 22:05

My favourite musical is Hamilton and my favourite song from that is Satisfied...today. Tomorrow it might be Guns and Ships, or the opening number.
But my favourite musical song is Defying Gravity from Wicked.

Flymetothetoon · 30/04/2020 22:13

Grease - Reminds me of happy times at school (I was 11 when our English teacher took the whole class to the cinema to see it - and bought us an ice cream too)

Hopelessly Devoted To You

Vagndidit · 30/04/2020 22:18

That's a hard one. I love most musicals but for fave songs, it's a tie between Jesus Christ Superstar: Gethsemane, Carousel: If I Loved You, and Hamilton: Satisfied.

Mixitupalot · 30/04/2020 22:34

Ohh I have loved listening to all my fav musical soundtracks on Spotify since the lockdown started. I’ve watch a few too. My fav is SIX & tbh any of the music is fanatic in it.

Obv les Mis- One more day- my kids love it too.

FenellaMaxwell · 30/04/2020 22:45

My favourite musical is either Merrily We Roll Along or West Side Story.

Favourite song to listen to is Not While I’m Around from Sweeney Todd. Favourite to sing is ‘Maybe This Time’.

Bloodylovecheese · 30/04/2020 23:37

West Side Story...America

Comefromaway · 30/04/2020 23:59

Ds has spent the entire of this week making bespoke backing tracks for Be More Chill including working out by ear the orchestrations of the song added for Broadway to which there is no music published.

If I Hear Michael in the Bathroom one more time I might just flip! And that blooming theramin

UnitedRoad · 01/05/2020 00:39

My favourite song from a musical is Unexpected Song from Song and Dance, however there’s no way I can choose my favourite musical - it changes depending on my mood!

Hedgehog44 · 01/05/2020 11:03
