Changes to Morrison's delivery

Has anybody else had this email from Morrison's about deliveries changing so they'll now be being picked from your local store rather than the distribution centre? I wonder how it will impact the availability of delivery slots, which so far haven't been an issue for me.

Er no
Off to check my emails

jeff1965 · 30/04/2020 15:49

Maybe it's area specific, or you'll hear later. Out of interest how have you found booking slots?

It’s crap because that’s what Asda and Sainsbury’s do so less selection is available x

starlingsintheslipstream · 30/04/2020 15:56

Not had that no, East Midlands area here. I liked the distribution centre set-up, though have had more subs/ items not delivered than ever lately so perhaps not the benefit it once was.

I've found booking slots a lot easier now and am able to book 2 weeks ahead at the moment.

jeff1965 · 30/04/2020 15:57

Yes which is why I chose Morrison's. Oh well, not much I can do I suppose apart from hope the service is the same or improved, which I find difficult to believe as so far it's been great.

@starlingsintheslipstream I'm East Midlands too. Have a large Morrison's about 10 minutes drive away.

Ditto - Freemans Common is my local. Will look out for emails too!

jeff1965 · 30/04/2020 16:03

@starlingsintheslipstream you're about an hour away from me so you may be business as usual

I haven’t seen the email, but there’s me not using Morrison’s online shopping anymore! Because it came from a warehouse was the reason I used them.

Talulahbeige · 30/04/2020 16:06

One of the stores I use (I have 3 equidistant!) was doing the online shopping the other day when I was in and they were using the most cumbersome trollies I have ever seen (think big square things that take up half the width of the isle). It made socially distancing shopping very difficult!

JacobReesMogadishu · 30/04/2020 16:07

They're rolling this out nationally I believe.

jeff1965 · 30/04/2020 16:08

Yes that's why I liked it too. It felt a bit safer! The information also states they're doing away with bags to reduce plastic. How can they deliver safely without bags? Take each item out individually and leave them on the floor outside as they can't come in? Us carry the crate inside and potentially infect it, which also wouldn't work if you have symptoms and are isolating? Or deliver in boxes?

And yes, I chose them because of the warehouse picking. Probably won't be renewing the pass because there'll be more subs.

Here's the information about going bagless

Yes I had an email about now delivery’s coming from stores instead, I’m I need the north west.

FireflyGirl · 30/04/2020 16:41

Mine changed from warehouse to local store about 6 months ago.

The warehouse had a lot of 'ethnic' foods that I would buy regularly, because I can't get them locally. So now I can't get them unless I go for a trip specifically to a town about an hour away or pay more on Amazon.

There aren't necessarily more subs (before Corona I had very few), but there's not the same variety available.

They're still better than Asda and Sainsbury's, though, so I've stuck with them.

Dartsplayer · 30/04/2020 16:43

I'm in the south-east and haven't had that email. We don't have a store anywhere local to us so not sure how that would work here

GilmoresForever · 30/04/2020 16:46

We are south west and switched about two weeks ago. The product selection is smaller but availability of slots has been easier ...

jeff1965 · 30/04/2020 16:48

Interesting to know the availability of slots has been easier. Where I am there seems to be no issue with slots, I can pick practically any day for the next 2 weeks. Hopefully the changes doesn't make it difficult.

I wonder what they'll do with the distribution centres? I believe they share with Ocado, so maybe Ocado will stay and Morrison's go.

OP posts:
jeff1965 · 30/04/2020 16:53

@GilmoresForever @FireflyGirl as you've already switched have you already gone to the bagless delivery? And if so how does it work?

This has been coming for a while. They split wigh ocado. The warehouse packing system belongs to Ocado

Talulahbeige · 30/04/2020 16:57

When I saw them picking the other day they were using paper bags, it looked like boutique shopping, only a couple of things in each bag!

AnyFucker · 30/04/2020 17:00

How the fuck are you even getting delivery slots ?

jeff1965 · 30/04/2020 17:22

@AnyFucker I don't know, there's 100's to pick from at the moment and they don't get snapped up for days, but then more get released, i've even seen some for the same evening. Maybe it's where I live?
