What project/adventure would you go on if you won a massive amount of money? (keep it light people)

NC as didn't like my last user name

So i'm stuck in isolation, two small children and a stalled career, fantasising about all the things i would do if money were no object.

Say you won 100 million on the lottery. After you have done all the 'boring' stuff, assuming that's all sorted and you now had a pot to risk on a venture of some sort, what would you do? Business idea, travel adventure, mad cap schemes, surgery to turn yourself into a dolphin etc.

Your answers cannot be any of the following as we assume you have already done these.

Securing your/anyone else's future
investments
buying a house
paying it to a charity

I would

a) Start my own small gaming company that would not need to be profitable for a year or two. i would be creative director but it would a groovy place to work with the focus on innovation and creativity with a really well treated team that can work flexibly/from home.

b) Buy development plots all over the city i live in and turn them into green spaces for the public instead of building on them.

c) Build a water park next to my (new) house :)

Buy a bring tract of land and turn it into an outdoor pursuits centre. I'd like a Forest Nursery, a space for schools to visit for Forest School/a Forest club for children, accommodation for school trips, scout/guide groups etc (indoor and camping), and a range of activities. And a fund to make it accessible for schools on deprived areas etc.

Adult activities also available, in part to fund the children's activities.

Wow, this is a great question. Placemarking for ideas. I was going to say take about 6 — 8 months of house touring in France to find a place to buy until I saw your omitted ideas. You know, I would live in a town/area in France for about 4 to 6 weeks to determine if I liked it enough to buy a place. At the end, I’d return to a finalist area for another 2 months of living, just in case to see what it’s like in another season/weather. Then I’d buy a place! But I would also take my sweet time doing that too instead of being manic. Get to know a real estate agent really well, view 2 or 3 house a week instead of 10, etc.

JingsMahBucket · 30/04/2020 14:30

That said, I think I’d like to do a kind of culinary school project where I take lots of classes around different skills and cuisines. I’ve always been a home cook but I know that I don’t know everything. I took a knife skills course a few years back and it changed my life. It also made me realize I had been using crappy knives my entire life and immediately started buying good ones.

IndieTara · 30/04/2020 14:32

I'd go to every F1 race in the calendar that year. VIP obviously

Nighting · 30/04/2020 14:37

I'd follow the opera.

NotNowPlzz · 30/04/2020 14:39

I'd build a small theme park with an amazing indoor swimming pool and a fake beach as I love the beach but am scared of the sea. Id have rapids like center parcs going on for about a mile Grin. My kids would grow up basically in a theme park which sounds like the best childhood ever.

I'd then fanny around building a town in ridiculous architectural styles e.g. ancient Egypt, stately home, gothic, a castle, modern treehouse homes.

NotNowPlzz · 30/04/2020 14:40

Oh I'd also pay musicians I liked for private performances and get to be friends with the ones I liked.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/04/2020 14:42

I'd like to own a bar, restaurant, cafe and shop all in a row on our local highstreet. I'd like it all to be sensibly priced and a bit kooky, to appeal to vaguely alternative types and to help keep the highstreet alive, as well as providing employment to people.

CountFosco · 30/04/2020 14:45

I'd buy a vineyard in New Zealand and learn about making wine.

crustycrab · 30/04/2020 14:47

Go on a self made family travel challenge across the world. Part race across the world style, part Roadtrip, part luxury etc.

Gonna map it out tonight Grin

MontanaSky · 30/04/2020 14:53

I really want to build a waterpark. We have limited local swimming facilities and certainly nothing very exciting.
It would be under a dome and have big water slides, a lazy river and wave pool and a tropical beach area.

Apart from that I'd love to travel along a similar route that the recent Race Across The World programme took part in except without the limited budget and timescales.

I'd also donate money to local schools for new equipment

okiedokieme · 30/04/2020 14:56

Buy kids a home and a car each. Quit work and spend most the year travelling, starting with South America. Would be great to set up a trust for secondary school girls education in parts of the world where it's not free. I'm not much of a material goods thing though.

Would like a Porsche 911 tooGrin

Waterdropwort · 30/04/2020 14:56

Buy a block of less productive land and rewild it. I would plant one field as an orchard/ forest garden for food production too.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 30/04/2020 15:02

I’d build a trampoline training complex and train every day (gymnastics, I mean). I’d fund my local team so they could operate out of it, but I would get to have one-on-one training every day.

And I’d fund some sort of clothes design school, which would involve people (including me) getting to learn how to design clothes, and the rules would be that each garment has to be made out of natural materials, have pockets, and be tested on a range of model sizes and not just on a size 8 model with no boobs.

bintang · 30/04/2020 15:10

Buy a large smallholding, make the perimeter utterly secure. Have massive veg plots, glasshouses, chickens, goats etc and have some staff to maintain. Beautiful gardens, a couple of orchards, some woodlands. Build a fuck-off luxury bunker beneath it for waiting out the next crisis.

We have been cooped up in a small flat with no outdoor space or balcony, so am missing freedom to roam.

TheThingWithFeathers · 30/04/2020 15:11

I'd go to art school to study ceramics and travel to inspiring places in the holidays. When I graduated I'd just buy my own gallery and run it for fun without needing to worry about whether or not it made any money. I'd spend winters in my home/studio on a Greek island.
It's nice to dream...

Happyspud · 30/04/2020 15:12

I’d build a dream farm, with a farm manager so I only do the nice bits. We’d buy all the gorgeous animals I want. Landscape the place beautifully with wooden fences and cobbled paths.

BearSoFair · 30/04/2020 15:14

Go on an ice hockey tour of the US and Canada, a game at every NHL arena!

Changingmyname1234 · 30/04/2020 15:16

Buy a really fancy apartment in the most expensive districts of New York, London and Paris. Have them interior designed by someone very good expensive and exclusive. Would obviously have balconies, amazing views, manicured gardens.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/04/2020 15:21

I'd buy and old warehouse building and turn it into 2 posh apartments and a lot of craft / workshop spaces. From woodwork, pottery and dry stone walking to gold smithing, painting, sewing, wild dyeing.

Co op, classes, workshops and a bloody good cafe

Book and vinyl shop too.

Piglet heaven.

Second apartment is for DSis Grin

Terralee · 30/04/2020 15:25

I'd open a cat sanctuary with a villa near Istanbul so I can live somewhere hot in the winter. I love cats & they have lots of strays.

I'd also open a small eg 20 room old people's home in England for the old people with not enough money / assets to pay for a nursing home who can't live at home. They would probably have MH problems & alcoholism & issues like that.
They would have lots of activities & therapy.

I would buy myself a Finca in Ibiza; an apartment in London, a villa in Lanzarote & a villa in Crete, an apartment in Krakow & an old Georgian property in Dorset, and my villa in Turkey, and live between them.
Probably flying on my private Lear jet or sailing on my huge Sunseeker yacht.

I would wear Bulgari & Chanel jewellery, and buy a Rose gold diamond omega watch.

I've thought very deeply about all this you can tell haha

bintang · 30/04/2020 16:45

Don't lean over the rail of your yacht wearing all that bulgari terralee!

PlanDeRaccordement · 30/04/2020 16:49

I would go to Mars and be first human & woman to walk on Mars.

rosiethehen · 30/04/2020 16:50

I'd buy a cottage on the west coast of scotland and go on a sea cruise to see Fingal's Cave. I'd have cats and knit woolly jumpers.

Pelleas · 30/04/2020 16:55

I'd visit the Tyne Cot memorial to find my great grandfather's name - I'd pay for my sister to come as well as it's something we've both always wanted to do.
