This all seems a bit much
Kind of sick of hearing about it
Nothing against him, huge well done to him but every single day I hear his name.
Distraction techniques are getting to me

Have a day without the telly, no sm etc. A mini digital detox if you will.

rockingaroundthemulberrybush · 30/04/2020 07:42

I don't seek out info so I don't hear about him. Stay off twitter and don't click on news stories about him. Turn off the TV - easy!

PatricksRum · 30/04/2020 07:50

I don't watch nor read the news. It pops up on my phone and I hear it in the background when on the phone to family. Regardless, it's still happening.

OP posts:
GoFiguire · 30/04/2020 07:52

So why did you start a thread about him? Hmm

JulietTango · 30/04/2020 07:52

It could be worse, he could now be Major Tom

PatricksRum · 30/04/2020 08:41

To see if my opinion is shared.

That's a plus Grin @JulietTango

I switched the TV on at 7.52 to watch Breakfast. It's now 8.44 and all I've seen is Captain TOm.

Leave the old chap alone now.

homemadecommunistrussia · 30/04/2020 08:45

Yup it's too much. Where is the actual news?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/04/2020 08:46

Why are people so intent on finding a nasty spin on an amazing man, lovely gestures at a time of utter shitness in the world!
Happy birthday Captain Tom!

crustycrab · 30/04/2020 08:56

"hear it in the background when on the phone to family" Confused how much time are you spending on the phone?

It's his birthday. This is the end. Stop starting threads just to moan

Winederlust · 30/04/2020 08:56

Feel sorry for the fella, probably just wanted a lie in on his birthday and he'll have been rudely woken by an RAF fly past!
It's a lovely thing he's done but I can't be doing with the way the media whip the public up into a frenzy about these things. It's all just so OTT.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/04/2020 08:58

He looked delighted at the air display - I’m sure his daughter wouldn’t let him do anything he didn’t want to do.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 30/04/2020 08:59

Bread and circuses, innit. I was ranting about this to dh this morning.

BMW6 · 30/04/2020 09:00

I agree with PP - kind of self-defeating to start a thread moaning about the amount of coverage something is getting thus adding to the coverage Hmm

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 30/04/2020 09:07

What have you done then , apart from moan and winge ?.

chomalungma · 30/04/2020 09:08

I bet it was going to be Major, until someone thought about the headlines.

Can you be promoted when you retire?

Anyway - it's something positive at the moment

Winederlust · 30/04/2020 09:13

OnlyFoolsnMothers my comment was a joke Grin

katienana · 30/04/2020 09:16

Feel sorry for his postman, we've been told not to order or send unnecessary shite.

Fairylillie · 30/04/2020 09:17

Turn the TV off, change the channel, press the mute button - you don't have to watch it.

Have a day off from reading the news, it's his birthday so of course he'll be on the news today. Tomorrow it will be something else.

Until you've raised that amount of money you have no right to complain.

PatricksRum · 30/04/2020 09:30

@crustycrab Every morning I facetime my mum so she can see dc as we're in lockdown in case you didn't know.
Which other threads have I started just to moan?

@PrimeroseHillAnnie If you read my op you will see I have nothing against him specifically, just the media.

@Fairylillie I don't watch the news. Until I raise millions I have no right to complain about the media? Hmm Right-o

OP posts:
PatricksRum · 30/04/2020 09:32

@Winderlust Totally agree. He'd probably prefer the money was donated to the NHS.
Or the postman!

sunshineandlollypops · 30/04/2020 09:34

With so much doom and gloom in the media, it is uplifting to see/read an uplifting story.
Well done Colonel Tom.

Lordfrontpaw · 30/04/2020 09:36

He’s 100 and raised a loaaaaad of money. He seems like a nice chap. My parents aren’t around anymore (he’s a little older than they would have been) so it’s nice to see/hear something positive from an elder in society.

I’d rather read about him that whinging pop stars crying on the front door of their mansions because they have to stay home.

zozozoe · 30/04/2020 09:37

Yep I’ve had enough of it!

Lordfrontpaw · 30/04/2020 09:38

If you don’t like it switch off. There isn’t much ‘good news’ around at the moment, it makes a nice change to see people happy.
