So many questions-like where’s the sex dungeon, why so many chairs in the bedroom?

That house is truly awful.

Karwomannghia · 30/04/2020 08:39

I think it’s got huge potential, as someone else said it could be done beautifully in mid century modern. So much space and huge windows. One amazing wooden ceiling but unfortunately some tiled ones. Needs work though!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 30/04/2020 08:39

Looks like it was originally a seaside cafe or something with a car parking area in the front.

Like others it made me feel sad. I bet it’s seen wild times and the chair by the aga was rather sad. Presumably the owner has moved on now. It’s quite stunning and looks well loved.

donquixotedelamancha · 30/04/2020 08:42

I googled to see how run down it was and found a whole MN thread about the “delights” of Blackpool.

It's not in Blackpool.

I think it's overpriced but property in Lytham is expensive, particularly near the sea, because it's a posh area.

Leflic · 30/04/2020 08:44

I agree with whoever said it’s been looked after with love. Those carpets are a bugger to vacuum and they’ ve been down nearly 50 years. I quite like the quirky rooms ( aside from the odd blue cremation curtains in the corner of the living room).

Aside from that the outside is appalling. Everything about it is an anathema.

LemonBreeland · 30/04/2020 08:47

Wow! So much, where to start. The front of the house looks like a seaside greasy spoon café. The rocking chair by the aga with a tv right next to it is bizarre. It also seems an odd layout.

The carpets - my eyes!!

I do like the giraffe though

viques · 30/04/2020 08:47

I was the teensiest bit disappointed in the bathroom, I was expecting something a bit more avocado glitzy, but the bed in the garage, fully made up and ready (I am willing to bet there is an electric blanket plugged in , those sea breezes can be bitter) was a joyful surprise.

We used to go to Lytham when we were kids, my mum used to die of shame because my dad who didn't give a toss, used to scoop us up off the beach, all sandy and sunburnt, and take us into naice hotels to eat.

I hope the house has stunning views, it would be great if it had at least one redeeming feature.

Karwomannghia · 30/04/2020 08:51

The bed in the garage is a car with blankets!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 30/04/2020 08:55

I was a bit appalled by the completely paved-over outside space, but I looked at it on Google maps and from above I can see that almost all the houses are mostly paved, and from street view I can see that it's very sandy so the only way to have a garden would be to dig out the sand and replace it with huge amounts of top soil. Even with top soil it would drain very quickly, so you'd have to water it constantly. It's probably too cold and windy to go for desert planting like agaves and succulents. The best choice would be along the lines of Derek Jarman's garden, but I think that took constant work to keep it going.

Is it just me that LOVES the blue tiles in the bathroom? I think I could work with that house if I had to, I like 70s the rooms were often very spacious. I think I'd redecorate with a mid-century modern palette though.

GoFiguire · 30/04/2020 08:57

There is an independent school in Lytham so it can’t all be a shit-hole.

bulliedintonamechange · 30/04/2020 08:59

This seems a bit cruel, I hope the owner doesn't see it. Unnecessary really.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 30/04/2020 09:01

I love it, honestly wouldn't change that much.

notchickenagain · 30/04/2020 09:03

I don't think it's overpriced. The property on the right as you look at it is a newish block of flats. Look at that stunning penthouse! As a property developer it has great potential.

SpringFan · 30/04/2020 09:04

Did anyone notice it is Leasehold? Wonder how long the lease is? Be interesting to see if it can be redeveloped.

notchickenagain · 30/04/2020 09:04

I meant to say 'for a property developer' not 'as a property developer'. I wish!

lowlandLucky · 30/04/2020 09:05

My eyes hurt now

coffeeagogo · 30/04/2020 09:05

I love quirky homes and this is like looking back in time. Did anyone else think it’s weird that it’s a leasehold property (misses the point of the thread)

pinkblanchmange · 30/04/2020 09:06

It definitely looks like it was once a cafe with the big windows

MaryBerrystolemyflour · 30/04/2020 09:08

I like the blue bathroom but the rest is a tad overdone. I bet plenty of Babycham’s been spilt and fun carpet burns acquired on those carpets...

If I had 600k to spend my house would be circular with a rotating pod and a chair that raised through the roof to the sound of Joe 90.

notchickenagain · 30/04/2020 09:08

The leasehold might be because it was once a commercial concern? The front doors look like a social club or similar.

Chillipeanuts · 30/04/2020 09:10

I always wondered where Jackie Treehorn retired to.

Jocasta2018 · 30/04/2020 09:11

Think I've got a migraine coming on after looking at those carpets...

EthelMayFergus · 30/04/2020 09:12

I'm another one that thinks someone hosted amazing parties there in the 70's. I hope whoever sits or sat in the chair by the stove has some great memories, but it made me feel a bit sad for them.

FakeFraudSquad · 30/04/2020 09:14

There is an independent school in Lytham so it can’t all be a shit-hole.

Well, Lytham isn’t a shit-hole at all. It’s much closer to Harrogate for example.

AKS, the independent school I think you might be referring to, is one of two in the Lytham St Annes area, the other being St Annes College Grammar. AKS was until recently three separate independent schools. Arnold School in Blackpool which was very successful and King Edward and Queen Mary Schools. KE and QM were single sex neighbouring schools which merged in the early 00s I think. Elmslie Girls School closed with most of the students moving to Arnold in the early 00s too. Arnold was still doing very well, despite being firmly located in the so called “shit-hole”of Blackpool. It “rescued” the now merged KE and QMS by merging with them and relocating all its pupils and most of its staff to the site Lytham of KEQMS and AKS as it’s now known opened in 2013.

There are two other good private schools in travelling distance, Rossall, a boarding school in nearby Fleetwood and Kirkham Grammar School which is very close to Lytham using the country roads.

isabellerossignol · 30/04/2020 09:14

I dream of getting my hands on something like that. I could make that amazing. Well, on the inside, I don't think anyone could make the outside attractive, but it's of its time.
