Anyone got a birthday this month?

If you've got a birthday this month, just wondering what you'd like in the way of gifts. I can definitely come up with alcohol and chocolate suggestions, buts that's about it. I'm trying to think of something which might brighten things during the restrictions improsed by the coronavirus.

No point in asking for a top for our holiday (cancelled), new item of clothing as can't buy instore or order from my usual or perfume (as I'm not going out much).

Also, how will you celebrate your day? Tescos have little pots of things like olives and other cold nibbles - if we have a half decent day I fancy sitting outside with these and a bottle of wine.

If you've got a decent garden, then imagine what kind of life of lockdown luxury you could be living if you treated yourself to a hot tub. Be the envy of your neighbourhood, the Kardashian of your county :D We're fortunate enough to have a bespoke one from John Lewis which we got fitted last year, though under the circumstances you could get something inflatable online (was just very tempted to type en ligne - my new hobby has been learning French haha).
Even just little decorations for the house can brighten up your space - my house is full of candles with the odd 'live, laugh, love' sign just to remind us of the important things (my son threatens to burn them, makes me even more adamant they need to stay).

Don't mean to brag sorry, but if we have a big event in the family like a birthday then we often hire caterers - if you have older kids you could something similar like pay them to make you a nice meal and clear up (or it could be their treat to you, though learning to work for their money is a very valuable skill). It's been lovely but very difficult having the kids home from school because we're used to them boarding, so we've been trying to do things like this for each other to make the most of this time we get to spend together. They take in turns helping me with the shopping when we go to Waitrose (I know it's an extra person but we go as little as possible and we pay in separate transactions as I grab the stuff for us and they grab the stuff for the grandparents). Sorry I'm rambling now, but don't we all need someone to chat to in these trying times.

Back to the point, my 51st birthday (ouch) was last week and my partner treated me to a boob job at Christmas, and gave me a bikini for my birthday to go with, and I gave the kids a few pounds each to bring me cocktails and canapes on demand. Have also been stocking up on teeth whitener to brighten things up!!

Anyway, I hope you can take a few ideas from that. I truly wish you a wonderful birthday op and stay safe!! Peace love and positivity!!!

It's my daughters 15th. She's not into parties. She'll be happy with her favourite meal and a present. I had my birthday a month ago. Take out from one of the few restaurants doing takeaway and a cake. A few cards. It was good.

It's ds2's birthday, next week, and I'm wrapping socks up for him. Took a while and some early morning Next stalking to get them, though, as he's in adult sizes.

Took a few attempts to replace my 10 year old black socks that were disintegrating. The ones in a markses order got cancelled. Nothing in the Next women's section but thankfully, the girlswear had some acceptable ones in a 4-7.

I'm 51 in a few months and a boob job is definitely not on my wishlist. I might need some new bras by then, mind

LBOCS2 · 29/04/2020 23:51

It's my birthday next week. It has been discussed at length and I am having:

Breakfast in bed
A nice plant or flowers from the supermarket around the corner from my DDs
A new watch from DH
A catered dinner that we're ordering from a company who usually caters events and is now doing catering for home
A supermarket cake (I really really hope, DH has been muttering at baking and although I love the optimism and the thought involved, I'm a bit scared. Also he's not allowed to touch my kitchenaid; in the last 12 months he's broken 2 vacuum cleaners and a lawnmower so I don't trust him).
Wine
Some more wine
Possibly a cocktail or two

I'm not that into parties and the like, plus it's not a big birthday. I'm looking forward to this as my birthday celebration. We'd usually go out for dinner so having the meal catered feels a little decadent but not OTT, and it's nice to have something different.

Oh, and it would be nice if the sun shined.

It's my son's 21st next week. Lock down gift ideas anyone? He's so fed up - final year of university messed up, birthday messed up, holiday with girlfriend messed up! Serious cheering up needed!

Piemam · 30/04/2020 00:21

It's my 40th birthday this week and not really planned much as spectacular 80s themed party will have to be indefinitely on hold... getting a boring present (thinki household appliance) as not been shopping to even see anything I might fancy. Will have delicious food and chippy later plus got all the fixings for my favourite drink and will make a lovely cake Cake. Although will be missing loved ones, kids and bf will join in, except baby, who is far too young for mojitos and chips! Grin

DeadButDelicious · 30/04/2020 00:37

I've just had mine, my parents bought me a new kindle which was a lovely surprise as my old one broke (it was very old) and I had really been wanting to spend more time reading. Most of my actual books are in storage so I have missed my kindle.

My husband and daughter made me a lovely birthday story book and got me a cake and candles and a nice card. My husband made me some shelves for my yarn stash as well. I've been promised a day out when the restrictions are eased a little. My brother got me a lovely framed vintage postcard. I love stuff like that and my inlaws got me some chocolates and some novelty loo roll. Again, we are going on a day out once things are eased.

But I think my best treat is the hair dye I've put on the shopping order so I can do my roots. I have jet black hair and massive ginger roots at the moment and I NEED to do something about it. Grin

All in all it was a lovely day. I missed my parents a lot though. We did FaceTime but that's the first birthday in all my 38 years where I haven't seen them. They only live round the corner as well so I'm used to seeing a lot of them. Lockdown has been pretty rubbish on that front. I just keep telling myself it's not forever.

Campervan69 · 30/04/2020 00:46

It's my husband's 50th today. We bought each other a campervan as mine was in December. We've always wanted one but of course can't actually go anywhere in it ATM which is a shame.

He doesn't drink much but mainly got given bottles of whisky. Also chocolates. And a pair of Nike air max from my mum (chosen by me)

I don't think it was one of his better birthdays. For his 40th we had a big camping trip with loads of friends and family. This evening we had a takeaway and a bottle of prosecco.

MaryBear · 30/04/2020 00:59

It's my daughters 18th on Monday. I've secretly ordered some banners, balloons and bunting. I've also ordered her a drip cake loaded with her fav chocolate and a personalised cake topper that she doesn't know about. We've got a big, very social family and we are upset we can't get together but we're all getting on Houseparty and having a virtual party. We're sorting a quiz and lots of embarrassing photo's of her to show everyone. Not been able to get much in the way of gifts but I'll get her some bits when I do the shop on Friday and also give her some money towards some driving lessons.

Bloodybridget · 30/04/2020 03:20

It's my birthday on Saturday. DP gave me a very nice surprise present early (a Bluetooth speaker). My brother's sending me a CD I asked for. There's nothing else I want or need that anyone can give me. We're having steak and oven chips for supper and I'll make a cake, I'm baking a lot anyway. I feel really sad and gloomy about the lockdown and the whole awful situation, and not in the least like celebrating, more like crying.

Bloodybridget · 30/04/2020 03:22

Sorry, that was such a miserable post!

Tillygetsit · 30/04/2020 04:28

Mine is on Saturday. Dh is making his very first cake apparently. We'll play daft games with the dc and order from our local chippy because I've got a craving for battered sausage, chips and curry sauce. I'm sophisticated!
I dont know what he's bought me but a parcel arrived from France yesterday. Very mysterious and as a bit of a control freak, slightly worrying.

Biensur40 · 30/04/2020 06:27

@remine I take it you are writing a parody??? Grin

GlamGiraffe · 30/04/2020 06:35

My sons 18th this weekend. He cant see any friends or our family. We havent been to the shops with him to choose a propr present as we all think it's something he needs to pick himself. I've got a token gift to give on the day but that's it. I feel sorry for him. He doesnt even drink more than half a beer! and had always planned to go to a really fancy Turkish restaurant near us. ☹

saffy1234 · 30/04/2020 06:39

It's my birthday today and when asked I had no idea what to say x

iMatter · 30/04/2020 06:43

Happy Birthday Saffy Smile

It's my birthday next week and all I want is sunshine so I can sit in the garden with my kindle and a glass or two of fizz

ditavonteesed · 30/04/2020 06:49

I was thinking of posting something similar I have no idea what I want. I was wondering about maybe asking dh for a fire pit for the garden. I normally love lush stuff and a good book.

Gingerkittykat · 30/04/2020 07:28

It was my birthday on Monday, we planned on getting a take away from a fantastic Japanese restaurant but forgot it closed on Mondays so will look forward to that at the weekend. Loads of local restaurants are doing take aways right now where you can get a quality meal instead of something greasy from Just Eat.

Mehmehmeh19 · 30/04/2020 07:39

Was DH's on Saturday. He got some new ray bans. To celebrate we had a cocktail party me him and dd.

Everyone had to dress to impress and meet in the living room.

Food delivered from the local Italian that's started doing delivery.

It was loads a fun

pinkpixie83 · 30/04/2020 07:45

Its mine on Sunday, going to be a none event. I keep trying to persuade people to ignore it!
I have a small circle anyway, so I have presents from my parents but they are both pointless in current circumstances, the kids aren't old enough to order online. The boyfriend who is staying for lockdown will try but I'm expecting odd stuff.
Sounds awful but I'd rather forget it anyway.

Hopefully you can enjoy some bubble in the garden

AuntieMarys · 30/04/2020 07:54

It's my 60th next month and I will obviously not be in a 5 star adult only hotel on a Greek island as originally booked 😭
So we are having a takeaway from local Turkish restaurant and plenty of gin .
No idea what dh has bought me but he is excellent at gifts.
There will definitely be a Byredo perfume...I may be in lockdown but I still wear perfume every day. I've asked for books from dcs.

FrangipaniBlue · 30/04/2020 08:11

We'll have had 2 "lockdown birthdays" in the frangipani house - mine was in week 1 and DHs is coming up!!

Mines close to Mothers Day and my choice of birthday/Mother's day treat is a walk up a Lake District fell followed by a pub lunch - so that's the first thing we'll be doing once restrictions are lifted!!!

DH had a landmark birthday last year and we did a few fun things including a trip abroad, so he says he's not fussed this year about being in lockdown.

I've got a landmark birthday next year though and was planning all sorts, including a ladies only trip to New York, but I feel like I daren't book anything because a) we don't know the covid situation and b) slightly scared the TAs could go bust before then........ Confused

Pinkarsedfly · 30/04/2020 08:19

Mine’s on Tuesday - it’s also mine and DH’s first wedding anniversary.

I’ve asked for a hori hori knife and a bottle of Penhaligon’s Bluebell perfume from the DSes - no idea what DH will come up with.

It’s one of my days off (still working) so I’m hoping it’s a nice day so I can spend it in the garden. I’ve bought DH a bottle of champagne for our anniversary so hopefully we’ll share that. He’s a good cook, so hopefully we’ll have a nice dinner, and I’ll bake a cake (coeliac, so it’s best if I do it).

DeadBod · 30/04/2020 08:27

We've had 2 lockdown birthdays and didn't bother with presents this year. We're a house of 4 adults so we organised homemade themed meals (Greek and Italian). Everyone dressed up and arranged to meet in the kitchen for cocktails. The meals were followed by games and dancing and, all in all, we had great nights.
We've since decided that Saturday nights are our "going out" nights and try to make them a little bit more special with games, quizzes and something extra nice for dinner.
