Shameless brag - DD’s lockdown birthday!

Lighthearted ‘go me’ post I suppose Grin

I’m a single mum, doing pretty much everything with very little family support (even without Covid!) and today was my DD’s 8th birthday. I’d been slightly dreading it as I’d had to cancel her sleepover party which she was really disappointed about. But despite everything, and the rain, we’ve ended up having a brilliant day together. It’s been fab. We did presents this morning after breakfast in bed, then we played board games, and had pizza for lunch. Then I’d organised a couple of zoom parties, one with her class and one with our lovely neighbours, and we played games and music. Kids all seemed to have fun. Homemade cake time - bit rustic looking but turned out ok! Then we snuggled up to watch a movie before her bedtime. Feel proud of myself tbh! Not naturally extroverted so I find these occasions a bit pressurised but DD was very happy!

Happy birthday to your DD Cake
And well done to you, it's very hard under the circumstances.
I'm trying to plan for my babys first birthday in June incase we are still in lockdown then. Luckily I have managed to order a cake, baking is not my strong point!

Barbararara · 28/04/2020 22:19

That sounds really lovely. I have a birthday coming up soon that I need to organise. What kind of games did you do on zoom? I’ve been trying to come up with ideas but I’m a bit stumped.

ThisHereMamaBear · 28/04/2020 22:23

Sounds brilliant! You should be proud ☺️

drspouse · 28/04/2020 22:26

Oh, that sounds lovely! What games did you play? I'm thinking of having a Zoom party for DD's 6th birthday in May.

Homeschoolaaargh · 28/04/2020 22:51

Oh thanks so much everyone, very lovely comments! I know, not too much to celebrate at the moment so it’s nice to feel good about the homely things.

Games wise, I did a scavenger hunt which went down really well - you draw up a list of things to find beforehand, I searched for ideas on google - and also a Pictionary type game, where I thought of something e.g horse, you give out 3 clues for the kids to draw it (you obviously don’t tell them what you’re thinking!) and then everyone holds up their version to the screen.

We had 10 kids which was just about manageable, I could see everyone and talk easily to keep things moving along but any more than that and it might start getting a bit hectic!
