I made a lentil dhal with coconut milk etc on Saturday night and was hoping to have it for lunch tomorrow. It has been stored correctly. Will it be safe to eat or will I die?

Three days, so that’s still fine.

Selfsettling3 · 28/04/2020 16:05

Yep. Most things are fine for 3 days.

GreyishDays · 28/04/2020 16:05

Ah just missed the word ‘tomorrow’. Hm. Borderline.

chunkyrun · 28/04/2020 16:08

Made sat night, eat Wednesday? Abit long for me. Monday would be my cut off

CottonSock · 28/04/2020 16:08

I would

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/04/2020 16:10

I think I would give it an inspection and sniff test before deciding. Probably safe to eat, but may be too unappetising and stale.

nobodysdaughter · 28/04/2020 16:11

@CottonSock so would I.

AmelieTaylor · 28/04/2020 16:12

I don't think so, no Today at a push if it looked/tasted ok. I'd probably even reheat it go piping hot.

Bloodybridget · 28/04/2020 16:18

I'd definitely eat it unless it looked or smelt bad.

georgialondon · 28/04/2020 16:19

No way

Witchofzog · 28/04/2020 16:20

Tonight would normally be my cut off . Do you think it would make me ill or just be not at its best?

OP posts:
FelicityBeedle · 28/04/2020 16:20

I would eat it

inwood · 28/04/2020 16:22

Just lentils, no meat? I'd keep it for a lot longer than three days! Meat / fish three days is my limit. I'd keep a vat of veg soup on the hob for a week.

JingsMahBucket · 28/04/2020 16:23

It’s totally fine.

GrumpyHoonMain · 28/04/2020 16:27

Tinned coconut milk yes - good for 7-10 days if your fridge is at 4 degrees. Fresh coconut milk- no would bin.

justaweeone · 28/04/2020 16:37

Totally

Witchofzog · 28/04/2020 17:02

It was tinned coconut milk. No meat Smile

What?! My rule is 7 days in the fridge is fine (and I'll still feed it to DH if it's a bit more than that too). Just go for the sniff test.

AndromedaPerseus · 28/04/2020 17:27

Just heat it up until it’s bubbling for a few minutes that should kill off any bugs

cardoon · 28/04/2020 17:51

Why not eat it tonight?

Arnoldthecat · 28/04/2020 18:01

I'm normally pretty relaxed about these things. Give it a looking at and if it looks ok chances are it is ok.

Magic2020 · 28/04/2020 18:10

Lentils and canned coconut milk should be fine! If rice was involved then I wouldn't (rice can grow Bacillus cereus which can give you food poisoning).

OneHanded · 28/04/2020 18:19

Fine! If you’re really worried pop it in the freezer now and heat when wanted from frozen

Mrsemcgregor · 28/04/2020 18:20

Freeze it?

Mrsemcgregor · 28/04/2020 18:21

OneHanded great minds!
