Dyson or shark?

Vacuum cleaner has just packed up. Any recommendations? I’ve wanted a dyson for a while but hear they are not as reliable as they used to be?

I've got the Dyson V11 Absolute. Purchased it after reading all the commercial tests/reviews etc and even when taking the price into consideration, it comes top. I LOVE it. I live in the very dusty/sandy ME with a 4yo and 6 cats and it does the job brilliantly.

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 25/04/2020 13:17

Dyson’s work, until they don’t. I have two broken ones in the shed. Will not be buying a third.

Seebo for me.

forgivemeimnew · 25/04/2020 13:18

I have an upright shark. Absolutely love it! It leaves lines on my carpet after hoovering. Had it about a year now and so far so good.

Half the people here will say Shark, half will say Dyson. This makes me think that there is actually very little to choose between them.

I'm very happy with my Shark.

CarrieBlue · 25/04/2020 13:22

I will never buy a Dyson - he doesn’t deserve my money

Thighmageddon · 25/04/2020 13:23

Dyson V10 here, they completely redesigned Dysons when they made this and the subsequent V11. They are so good and I wouldn't swap the powerful yet very lightweight vacuum for anything else, ever.

Fleeflyyflooo · 25/04/2020 13:25

Personally would go for shark. Had my current one nearly 3 years and still picking up like new. Not had any problems with it

hippohector · 25/04/2020 13:25

Dyson’s are overpriced and overrated imo

sashh · 25/04/2020 13:26

Get a Miele.

islandofdoom · 25/04/2020 13:28

I agree with pp about Miele. Had mine for a very long time and love it. I hated the Dyson I had (many years ago).

Snowman123 · 25/04/2020 13:28

I've got a V10 handheld and it's very good. Much better than my previous dyson which was a V5. The V5 wouldn't pick up hair, whereas the v10 does.

TheFairyCaravan · 25/04/2020 13:29

We've got a Shark cordless and a Shark liftaway. We'd never go back to a Dyson.

glasshalfsomething · 25/04/2020 13:29

Hated my shark. Cleaner hated it so much she brought her own from home.
Replaced with a shark lift away. Game changer. Go with the shark, they’re cheaper too

vodkaredbullgirl · 25/04/2020 13:30

My past 3 hoovers have been Dyson, now ive got Shark. It definately picks up the black and golden dog hairs up.

Shmithecat2 · 25/04/2020 13:33

If I was going corded I'd go Miele though

Lucked · 25/04/2020 13:35

I have a sebo and it is like having a Volvo, so reliable and good at is job. However I am glad I am in a bungalow and it is heavy to move around.

Have you seen the new Miele 3in1?

maddy68 · 25/04/2020 13:36

Honestly after having both , my cleaner actually begged me to get a Henry. It was cheap £99 so I was skeptical it's bloody amazing !

Yawnfest · 25/04/2020 13:45

Had a Dyson for a few years, very heavy to lift and something seemed to split or snap on it every week. A couple of people I know say their hose has split on it.
Have a Hoover Blaze now and hate it. You can't turn the beater off when you use the extension and it burns the carpet, also falls over when try and use the extension.

MrsRudderless · 25/04/2020 13:45

Never Dyson.

uggmum · 25/04/2020 13:47

I have had a few Dysons. They don't last and are expensive to repair.

I have a shark and it's excellent. They are usually on offer in Costco

Seapink2 · 25/04/2020 20:33

Thanks for the replies everyone, think I have eliminated getting a Dyson. I will do some further research into a Miele.

Ive had Henry's in the past and loved them, only downside is the weight for carrying up and down stairs and doing high up jobs.

I've used Dyson and don't rate them.

Vax are a good value vacuum.

Miele are a brilliant brand, rate their washing machines highly, never used their vacuum.

I've just bought a cordless Shark and I love it, absolutely amazing, light, adaptable, vacuums right up to the edges, very manouverable.

succulento · 25/04/2020 20:58

I love my Shark cordless liftaway.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 25/04/2020 21:01

when our Dyson died we bought a Shark. It's fantastic and we would never go back to Dyson.

CheriLittlebottom · 25/04/2020 21:03

Love my Shark.
