What's everyone up to today?

& how are you all doing?

I know it's not the usual rounds of ferrying dc about/days out/shopping trips etc. but haven't started one of these for a while so thought I would today.

I'm currently drinking coffee, and listening to the radio, with dd1. We'll get dressed in a bit & she wanted to start her new book (Carrie) so she'll probably do that.

I'm going to put some washing on and clean the puffy (footstool thingumy), then maybe something crafty or continue decorating my living room.

Dd2's still sleeping. I'm not sure what she wants to do yet but suspect there may be baking going on at some point today.

What about you lot? :)

Just had poached eggs on toast with a coffee and am watching CSI Miami.
Need to do housework and washing.
Plan to make Banana bread or muffins this afternoon.
DP is working, DD is asleep still but has Church Youth Sat lunch Zoom meeting at noon.
Making a curry tonight and might give homemade naan bread a try.
Will play on the Xbox a bit and find a film on Netflux for later.

troppibambini · 25/04/2020 10:35

I like your what are you up to threads lucysmamSmile
We have four dc and they've all woken up grumpy so we are all going on a walk to get them out of the house and hopefully out if their bad moods.
I've had an order of garden toys arrive which they don't know about so after the walk I'm going to get them out and fill the paddling pool.
I was going to clean but today is going to be the last day of good weather her and it's forecast rain next week so im leaving it til then.

hermionegrange · 25/04/2020 10:36

Both sound like nice days :) what are you playing on the Xbox?

I'm still in bed with DS2, he is 6 weeks and fed every hour last night. I was hoping I'd be able to get a little nap this morning with him but he's fed through all of that too Grin

I'll have a cup of coffee and make me and DS1 a hot cross bun when I go down.
DS1 is content playing with his toys and books with me or DH, and DS2 is content as long as nobody dare put him down.
DH is starting a new jigsaw today, and I'd like to get at least a chapter of my book read (Bedshare- it reads like a romcom, I'm enjoying!)
I've got a whole chicken that goes off today so I need to cook that- not sure what to do with it yet.
Family zoom quiz tonight.

Whohasnickedmyvodka · 25/04/2020 10:36

I'm going to play hide and seek with my two cats later I'm now bored of being bored

Babymamaroon · 25/04/2020 10:39

We're all in Pjs, DH gone food shopping. We're going to have a little picnic later in a friend's private wood. They won't be there only we will. Sounds grander than it is, it's only little but it will be a nice change.

We also need to tackle the state of the house and the laundry piling up! Ugh.

Misty9 · 25/04/2020 10:39

Woken up to ds8 in my bed who then had a tantrum when I said no to screens.

Had a shower, made breakfast and put washing on. Fell out with ds and now hiding in my bedroom to prevent me shouting at him some more. He and dd6 are playing together nicely without me there it seems. But I'm cold. And getting hungry. No plans.

lucysmam · 25/04/2020 10:42

@troppibambini grumpy kids isn't a good start to the day :( Hopefully a walk will perk them up! What garden toys did you order? I had the brilliant idea, about two weeks in, that maybe we should buy a trampoline...funnily enough there are none to be had that are within my budget Hmm

@Whohasnickedmyvodka I bet they're really good at hiding Grin

I also love your what are you up to threads OP. Actually it’s one of my most loved ones as I love reading your opening posts. I always imagine you having a really peaceful sunny homely home. I imagine you living in the country with your two girls and loving life.
As for us, my husband is cooking lunch as it takes hours! Trying a new mince and potato oven made Naan type thing which the kids love. Will go for a walk in the afternoon then do some reading and writing with the kids. Waiting for the kids to finish their apple then will do an exercise video with them. Enjoy your day.

Whohasnickedmyvodka · 25/04/2020 10:43

They are I know I'm going to loose

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/04/2020 10:45

DD1&2 are still in their rooms. I'm supervising DS's karate lesson on zoom. The bread maker is doing its thing but I only make dough so I'll have to bake the rolls for lunch when it's finished.

I'm making a red, white and blue crochet wreath for the door for our local area's "decorate your house for VE Day"

I've volunteered to watch the coverage of the premier league FIFA tournament with DS this afternoon but if he wants to watch it on his own then I'll carry on with my crochet and perhaps watch an old episode of Poirot.

There's chilli defrosting for dinner and when I go out for my walk later I'll see if I can get any Doritos.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/04/2020 10:46

Defrosting the freeze as I can't shut the drawers. Considering clearing out the cupboard under the stairs but not sure I can be bothered.

Notonmyshift · 25/04/2020 10:46

I'm currently waiting for dp to make bacon and eggs and then I will potter in the garden.
I need to sort out some questions for the Saturday night quarantine quiz that we have been doing with friends.

Poppyfr33 · 25/04/2020 10:49

Watching Saturday Kitchen, later will be looking online for anew cooker. I have. Rangemaster 110 which only has one oven working and not all the rings automatically light now.

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/04/2020 10:57

Sorry lucysmam I forgot to answer your other question. I'm doing ok. Wouldn't mind seeing my siblings and in-laws but we live 100+ miles away from them and only visit 4-6 times a year anyway so infrequent visits are our norm. We should have all met up over Easter to celebrate DD2's 21st birthday so that was a little sad but we've rearranged it.

How are you doing? Are your girls coping?

Puddlesplasher · 25/04/2020 11:02

Just back from a five mile walk with the dog and sitting in the garden with a cup of tea. Washing machine has nearly finished so I'll peg the clothes out soon.

DH has just taken DS out for a bike ride so I'll have peace and quiet for at least a couple of hours. DS will be persuading me to play swing ball, monopoly and bananagrams once he is back. DD is still in bed after having a virtual sleepover with her friends last night. I could still hear them chatting at 3am so goodness know when she will get up!

Got my fruit and veg box arriving at some point which is the highlight of my week these days! Plan on starting my new book whilst sitting in the sunshine.

Saturday night is movie night but the dc are disagreeing over what we should watch. Any recommendations for a film that's suitable for both a 9 year old and a 15 year old welcome!

JustStayHome · 25/04/2020 11:03

Thinking to making crumble later, i finally got most of the ingredients i needed on the online shop.

But.... I have no fruit.....

Can you make just crumble?
Its the best bit anyway 😂

Nononononono33 · 25/04/2020 11:11

Can you just put crumble over ice cream? Add a bit of sauce if you’ve got any (fruit or chocolate sauce)?

We’ve just had a lovely bacon sandwich after a lie in, now gearing up to do the gardening. I’m going to sort a few cards out ready to send, just to let people know we’re thinking of them. I’m going to do a bit of work as it’s busy at the moment, and try to finalise my quiz questions for tomorrow night’s family quiz. Later we’re trying home made fried chicken for dinner, with a film. Missing going out and seeing people but making the most of it!

ssd · 25/04/2020 11:18

I love @Lucysmam threads too. Feels nice and normal in a mad world.
I'm in bed reading a book a very kind friend at work sent me, ds2 us asleep, dh at work. He us making us home made from scratch curry later. Have a wash on
Will sit in the garden then go my 1 hr walk later. Am following the guidelines to a tee, too scared to do anything else.
Hopw you and your family are well @Lucysmam.

lucysmam · 25/04/2020 11:21

@Lglonel I wish we lived in the country with a proper homely home. It's definitely not peaceful either (although atm it is because there are no extra children mooching about the place and no-one popping round to put the world to rights over coffee and cake).

@TheWoollybacksWife we're all doing ok. Dd1 is a bit bored but tends to disappear upstairs to watch a musical or read if I suggest she stays and does something with us. Dd2's missing going to school & seeing her friends but is doing lots of baking and crafting with me, plus we have a fairly large garden with lots of wildlife to learn about, so is reasonably occupied.

@JustStayHome I see no issues whatsoever with just crumble! It's definitely the best bit

ssd · 25/04/2020 11:21

In answer to your question @Lucysmam, we're doing OK. Just wish me dcs adult lives weren't turned inside out. My heart breaks for them.

namechangenumber2 · 25/04/2020 11:22

DH is in the garden about to mow the lawn, DS1 is going to help him clear out a corner of the garden which is very overgrown Blush

DS2 is shouting at his friend on the Xbox

I'm waiting for the washer to finish and about to sort through the washing pile. Downside to having good weather is the amount of sorting.

Later we'll take the dog for a walk, have a zoom call with my parents ( going to try a quiz) and then this evening having a take away and watching trashy TV!

EarringsandLipstick · 25/04/2020 11:25

I'm trying to use this thread to motivate me. I can't move today. Loads I could be doing but I feel really low & demotivated.

Kids are lounging around watching TV - not good as they'll be loopers when I finally turn it off.

What I should do: clean house; tackle garden a bit; go for a run; plan something nice w kids.

applecatchers36 · 25/04/2020 11:28

Just putting the baby down for his nap. We have been in the garden pottering around for an hour, he has been 'helping me' water the garden while I do a bit of pruning, tidying up.
DD is meant to be doing her Mathletics on the iPad but left unsupervised will be looking at YouTube music videos. DS is watching TV and DH in the shower.
Want to do a new recipe tonight for dinner that my sister sent me, looks tasty an Ottolenghi pasta one. It's my Aunt's birthday and we are doing a zoom family meeting later.
Tomorrow might do a roast as I have a chicken defrosting. We will probably go on a family bike ride at some point over the weekend to entertain kids.
All weekends are blending into same themes at the moment...with not a lot to discriminate them..

yerawizadari · 25/04/2020 11:30

I've had a walk in the woods, come back, made a shopping list, been to Morrisons, come home and unpacked the shopping, and am currently drinking coffee before I start fiddling about with weeds in the garden. Later on I'm expecting to eat a nice chilli for dinner, which another family member is making.

AnotherDFSsale · 25/04/2020 11:34

I enjoy these threads too. OP doesn't live too far from me from what I read on her posts so they always stick in my mind!

Currently listening to 90s music on the Alexa whilst drinking tea. Eldest still in bed, youngest on the ipad. I'm hoping for some free time later because I really want to watch Afterlife S2 on Netflix!!
