What is the stupidest thing your pet has done? Does it beat my dog? Pic included

So today my dog got stuck between the bannisters on the landing. We recently put a stair gate up at the top to which he was obviously most put out by and decided he’d try hop through the bannister to get down whilst I was putting washing away. I took the photo when I thought he was just relaxing laying down with his head between the gap but no, he had managed to get both his front legs through and was properly stuck. He was not distressed in the slightest and was quite happily wagging his tail as I was desperately trying to pull the bannister out, I then went to find a saw because it wasn’t budging but couldn’t so I put all my strength in and managed to get the bloody thing out. Teddy then got up and sat at the gate to get downstairs again.

Anyone else’s pet got themselves into a silly situation?

Also just to add I’m actually glad he got stuck or he could have fallen down the stairs.

That is brilliant! Grin

My ridiculous collie had been being sick for a few days, nothing major, just a little bit every day, and was still eating so we weren't concerned, but by day four we were a bit concerned. Until I went out to the back of the garden and realised he had eaten an entire fucking clematis over the course of a week...

This is the daft creature in question, refusing to let me bath is peace!

My dumb cat fell off the roof of a nearby care home into an internal court yard from which he couldn't escape. Spent 3 days in it before we found him and rescued him. Why is that so dumb? Because a few months ago he went missing for 12 days having fallen off the same roof into the same feckin courtyard. He was half starved and lucky to be alive by the time the staff noticed him and contacted me (they'd seen the flyers I'd delivered everywhere). Stupid bloody cat.

Lefkosia · 24/04/2020 22:25

That's so cute! What breed is he OP?

Pippapotomus · 24/04/2020 22:27

We frequently walk our dog along a small river. There's a build up of algae / weeds/ green crap on the surface. She regularly jumps down thinking its grass, completely submerged, then panics.

TheFaerieQueene · 24/04/2020 22:27

🤣

Years ago I came home and went into the kitchen. My terrier tried to run up to me but was walking very oddly. All his legs were stiff and his body was moving oddly.
I was so worried , went over to him and bent down to look at him. When I touched him his fur was solid on his back and legs.
I then saw it. The monkey had got into the kids craft box , pulled out the PVA glue bottle and chewed it like it was his squeaky toy. He'd then rolled in the contents and by the time I got back had set !
It took ages to wash it out as it went all slimy when mixed with shampoo and water.

My dog ran across a frozen canal after a squirrel she saw on the opposite bank. A canal she walks past every day. How did she not remember it was water?

Of course she fell in and a crowd formed whilst she scrambled out again.

vampirethriller · 25/04/2020 07:37

My dickhead got stuck in railings trying to steal bread from a pigeon.

Florencenotflo · 25/04/2020 07:37

This one was more my fault than his! We used to have a soppy old Staffie, he was so well behaved. He loved food but never stole food. I used to unload the shopping into the hallway from the car then move it into the kitchen once the car was unloaded.

One day he nicked a packet of raisin pancakes I'd opened on the way home and scoffed them all! £140 later at the vets to make him vomit the whole lot up, most expensive pancakes in the world!

SinglePringle · 25/04/2020 07:39

You have a Beardie! We have one too!

Moondust001 · 25/04/2020 07:48

My dog is afraid of ducklings! The first time he ever saw them they fascinated him. He kept leaning out to smell them better, leaning, leaning... and fell head first into the pond. He actually loves swimming, but I think it was the shock that he didn't expect to end up in the pond. Now, whenever he sees ducklings he steps back and acts like it's a deliberate ploy to drown him.

Lionsleepstonight · 25/04/2020 07:58

I love these stories! Great thread. I need it.

Wolfiefan · 25/04/2020 08:01

Oh I love these.
Yesterday terrible tortie followed me on a dog walk again. Big dog is fed up of this. As soon as we were in the field big dog chased her off. (No harm done.)
But stupid kitty seems to have got lost or confused or sat waiting for us to come back. 10 hours later I’ve not seen her. I retraced my steps (I know. Not allowed) and she flew at me meowing gratefully. Stupid cat. She DOES know the way home.

Bluntness100 · 25/04/2020 08:06

I tied my dog up outside a shop, for some reason she decided to lie down in the middle of the pavement and shut her eyes and refuse to move when anyone approached her, when I came out there was a small crowd and I heard one woman say to her child “oh the poor doggy is dead”

I looked at the dog took her lead, and said, she’s not dead to the crowd, and she jumped up and walked off with me wagging her tail as everyone watched bemused.

She was literally motionless just laying there, hence why everyone thought she was dead and a small crowd had formed.

nevergoingoutagain · 25/04/2020 08:17

@Wolfiefan your animals are all bonkers! Ps I'm pretty sure you're my fb friend and we used to work together!

Wolfiefan · 25/04/2020 08:21

@nevergoingoutagain you’re not the cake baking woman I trained with are you?
If so? Tortie with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth? And black and white with a habit of climbing people as a kitten. Grin

Deathraystare · 25/04/2020 08:24

Stupid bloody cat.

Yeah but he had nine lives!

Sparklfairy · 25/04/2020 08:27

@Wolfiefan ours used to come out on dog walks too. I hated it. Yeah it was adorable but she is far too trusting and docile, and I didn't trust a few known big dogs on the walk not to catch her. So when she'd sneak behind us I'd have to try and lure her back home and lock her in before we could leave Grin You could practically hear the dog sighing in frustration when she'd appear

Clevererthanyou · 25/04/2020 08:27

My bull mastiff cross (sounds nasty but raised well and lovely temperament) once stole a joint of roast beef that was resting on a counter. We couldn’t find the beef but we did find a flatulent and semi comatose dog in the garden Grin

PurpleThistles84 · 25/04/2020 08:28

When we go out for our one walk a day, we go along a little river and our dog loves to play in it. However she has a thing about river rocks and likes to pick one up and take it home. Each day, the size of the rock has got bigger....and bigger....and bigger, to the point she can no longer actually pick it up and gets herself in a state, whining, digging and half drowning herself trying to pick it up! Yesterday the rock was almost as big as her head and she is a black lab/German shep cross!

nevergoingoutagain · 25/04/2020 08:30

@Wolfiefan nope but I wish I was a cake baker....I love cake!

I worked with you from around 2003 and we lived near each other. I have 3 girls and a black fluffy cat.

PurpleThistles84 · 25/04/2020 08:33

We also have a cat and having recently moved to a little village, he has been making himself quite famous, the feature of quite a few fb posts on the local group. Yesterday he sauntered out the front door, hopped over the fence and strolled into the neighbours house, where he proceeded to bat their little puppy about, try to sleep on one of their kids beds and beg for food (despite being fed immediately before leaving the house!).

He also regularly attends school with my children (prelockdown of course) and I can see him through my kitchen window doing his daily roll call of the children by ambling up to them and demanding affection. He has even tried to go into the classrooms with them.

MossWalk · 25/04/2020 08:35

Our labradoodle is very sweet but not the brightest.

He keeps getting stuck on the trampoline 🤦🏽‍♀️ He sees the kids on it and gets so excited by the bouncing, leaps on and then realises he is horrifically afraid 😂
