What is the stupidest thing your pet has done? Does it beat my dog? Pic included

So today my dog got stuck between the bannisters on the landing. We recently put a stair gate up at the top to which he was obviously most put out by and decided he’d try hop through the bannister to get down whilst I was putting washing away. I took the photo when I thought he was just relaxing laying down with his head between the gap but no, he had managed to get both his front legs through and was properly stuck. He was not distressed in the slightest and was quite happily wagging his tail as I was desperately trying to pull the bannister out, I then went to find a saw because it wasn’t budging but couldn’t so I put all my strength in and managed to get the bloody thing out. Teddy then got up and sat at the gate to get downstairs again.

Anyone else’s pet got themselves into a silly situation?

Also just to add I’m actually glad he got stuck or he could have fallen down the stairs.

I don't know whether this is a tale of a stupid dog or a stupid ex but my ex boyfriend once came home shopping wet because he'd taken the dog for a walk, the dog had jumped in the river and swam across to a small island whereby it had ran around and around on the island having the time of its life refusing to come back. So ex bf also jumped in the river and swam across to the island. Brilliant, thought the dog, and swam back to the riverbank, leaving ex on the island. Now I'm not entirely sure how many times they both swam across the river until they both landed up on the riverside - on that occasion, because I was laughing too much anyway and completely lost it once it turned out this Wasn't The First Time ex had done this - he'd also swam across the month before. Stupid idiot. The dog never needed rescuing, it was just a stupid spaniel.

Lovely thread.

We have an ancient tortoise who patrols the garden. We have one step in our garden. One. The alternative route, right next to the step, is a gentle slope of lawn. Yet every time he struggles up and down the step.

I suppose he has always had that body and it's not really like trying to do everything while carrying a sideboard like I imagine . . .

Hi @nevergoingoutagain I’ve worked it out.
@Sparklfairy my dog thinks walks are her special time just with me. The cat can come and go as she pleases so the dog thinks it’s taking the proverbial to gatecrash HER walk. Grin

@BalloonSlayer he is a strong independent ancient tortoise that don’t need no gentle sloped lawn!

Sparklfairy · 25/04/2020 09:49

@wolfiefan That's exactly how mine (now departed) thought too! They were best friends and would play all the time but if the cat tried to jump on him on a walk he would just blank her, and at worst try and cock his leg on her Grin

Kitty is headstrong and doesn't like to be left out of anything Grin

Pippapotomus my dog did the same thing as a puppy, we live near a canal and when it’s hot the algae covers the surface. She just leapt in one day, obviously thinking it was grass. Got quite a shock! I had to fish her out, completely covered in green. She had to have antibiotics a week later because she got a tummy bug from it. She never did it again though!

Cats are supposedly poised, graceful creatures, right?

I was quietly taking a bath a few years ago when the cat decided to jump up on the side (probably to have a drink from it because her clean and full water bowl is inferior to bath water). And she overshot. Landing in the bath. Turns out cats can do a good version of vertical take off. Shame she dug her claws into my legs to achieve this. She’s lucky I love her.

All you needed to say was his name-Teddy-
I have a Teddy too and every Teddy I have come across in the doggy world is slightly unhinged 😂

Mine got stuck in a child’s plastic garden chair. I just happened to look outside while he was in the garden and there he was panicking. He must have, for reasons unknown, put his head through the hole in the back rest and then couldn’t get out again. I had to break the chair to free him.

One of our cats regularly leans on the bathroom door which is usually left ajar to have a wash. And is surprised/offended every single time when it opens and she rolls across the floor. Same cat once got stuck on her back in a hole DH had dug to plant a shrub in the garden.

It's a rite of passage for kittens to fall in the bath in this house.

Took our dog to the shops once and tied him to a pile of bread crates outside. Something must have spooked him because he took off home with the bread crate still attached. He was the talk of the town for, ooh, minutes.

Gotaprettypup · 25/04/2020 12:42

Prettypups favourite is when we are out walking suddenly stopping dead, sit down, then keeling over. Great fun on a busy junction! It looks like she had had a seizure, no, a pup toddler tantrum because she wants to go a different way/not go home. I get Shock looks and then Grin when drivers realise what is going on. Twat dog!

Dcats just like winding up Ddog!

Littlewhitedove · 26/04/2020 14:39

This is my little pooch who decided to go snooping in a shopping bag and got it caught around her head. The bag was empty. Silly dog.

I went for a walk earlier, and when I came back I discovered that DH had been making the most of my absence and was listening to his Focus album and 'Hocus pocus' was playing as I walked in. It was very loud indeed.

So what was my cat doing, sitting 18 inches away from one of the speakers?

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 27/04/2020 17:36

You know even the light catches something and your cat tries to pounce on the reflection of the light?
Well, my cat just did that with the reflection from my mobile. Unfortunately, the reflection was on my face. Shock

My girl was terrified of rabbits. She was a whippet / greyhound cross.
