How much money have you danced in lockdown?

I’ve just gone through my banking and realised we’ve saved £1000 but not being able to eat out at restaurants/go for coffees/lunches ect.. Blush

Lucky really as our business is going to shit now on lockdown so need it!

Anyone else realised they spend too much money and have actually saved during lockdown?

JFC, you are loaded.

Would you like to adopt me? 😂

Mauidemigod · 24/04/2020 15:03

Honestly we’re not!! Our outgoings are huge and not very good savers but seeing it like this we will have to start!

We have saved a lot - makes me realise how much we spend on going out and about in various ways.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/04/2020 15:05

I have saved a few hundred pounds I suppose, but I only earn 500 a month (to put into perspective). I normally squirrel some away on payday but then dip back into it over the month, however last month didn't touch my savings and was in credit last night before my pay landed this morning,
The big things aren't changing but it is the incidental spends which have stopped. It's made me really look at our spending habits. Food shopping is increasing though, I think we're spending more now than before, for less food.

We will also I'd imagine save our holiday money as I think both of ours will be cancelled. We might use that to have our bathroom done next year if so.

LilacTree1 · 24/04/2020 15:05

If you saved £1000, you can easily keep me

I could keep house for you, I’m quite good at that.

And I’ll do your spreadsheets for finance!

Annonymiss123 · 24/04/2020 15:07

Approx. £800 saved to date. Next pay date is next Thursday and hope to have increased to £1100 by then.

Mauidemigod · 24/04/2020 15:08

Lilac the spread sheet swung it. Come over!

Yes to incidental spends. Embarrassing really 😬

Saved nothing at all. I'm still working. Partner furloughed yet still having to pay for childcare we are not using. Spending more on food because everyone else us home and also buying more expensive food than usual because that's all that's available!

bloodywhitecat · 24/04/2020 15:10

About £700 I reckon but it some of it will need to go towards DP's wages next month as he's been furloughed and will be on 80% for a month.

PotteringAlong · 24/04/2020 15:11

You spend £1000 a month on eating out and takeaway coffees?!

LilacTree1 · 24/04/2020 15:12

Yay! I hope have a garden OP. I could really use one of those right now.

I quite like spreadsheets- I should have trained as an accountant!

Parkandride · 24/04/2020 15:16

Must be saving on petrol but food spend is crazy, been using a Sainsbury's local quite a bit rather than a supermarket as I don't fancy the queues and its so ££££.

I think normally we'd put money aside for house stuff and instead we've been buying more for the garden etc from regular account so it doesn't look like I've got extra left at the end of the month but I probably have more to show for it if that makes sense

CommunistLegoBloc · 24/04/2020 15:18

I feel like I'm spending loads. Craft bits, garden stuff, house stuff, books...I WFH anyway and DP is working as normal so no travel costs saved. Suppose eating out, tube fares for seeing friends, and takeaways all cut out, but also seem to be spending a fortune on supermarket food somehow.

PerfidiousAlbion · 24/04/2020 15:18

£1,300!

It’s shown just how much I spend on hair, facials, make-up, lashes, nails, clothes, travelling, lunches, trips, meals out and other stuff I cant do now.

Quite shocking really.

Mapril · 24/04/2020 15:22

What we’ve saved on fuel I think we’ve probably spent on groceries, but yeah, the eating out, the pub visits, the fripperies...probably nudging a grand now

ComeOnGordon · 24/04/2020 15:22

I’ve been saving like crazy since I started working more hours last year after exH moved out but sadly the lockdown is costing me more since I’m now feeding 3 children 6 days a week when normally the younger 2 get fed at school and the oldest one is at uni away from home. I’ve maybe saved 50-70 on petrol but that’s easily been eaten up on food bills. Can’t get my Aldi shop in under 100 Sad. Can’t wait for life to return to normal

Harrykanesrightsock · 24/04/2020 15:22

We are both working more hours than usual and we did go out quite a lot for coffee and restaurants. Both adult DC are both home from university but we did supplement food for them but all in all I think we are probably £750 better off this month. I’m not missing going out one bit and realise it was keeping DH happy. A compromise will ha d to be made after all this I think.

Mauidemigod · 24/04/2020 15:23

Lilac we have a garden. I’ve made a bed up!

Pottering yes Blush coffee every morning after I drop the kids off and on way to work. Lunch in the pub a few times a week. Chinese restaurant on a Friday night which is always around £100 and I don’t cook on the weekends so another take away Saturday and Sunday lunch out which is between £50 - £70 depending on where.

I know it’s disgusting when I put it all out Blush

bruce43mydog · 24/04/2020 15:25

£2000 so far it's amazing the good thing about it is I realise that money was being wasted. On non essential items.

So when lock down ends I will continue to save.

Inconnu · 24/04/2020 15:25

Lots on petrol and commuting costs - usually DH commutes into London (train fare, station car park) and I drive 20 miles each way. Some on meals / coffees / lunches out. And our Easter holiday in France was cancelled so we got a refund for that.

cantory · 24/04/2020 15:27

Zero as food is costing more.

Figgygal · 24/04/2020 15:27

Probably nothing our shopping bills are astronomical, dh on furlough and I’ve had to take a 10% wage cut so all the eating out, days out etc balance it out

ploopsie · 24/04/2020 15:28

Yes I normally have about 1k at the "end of the month" & I had an extra grand there. Will be more conscious in future however if lots of us do that that will impact on all the businesses we usually fritter money on.

ClashCityRocker · 24/04/2020 15:29

We're certainly saving a few hundred.

Commuting costs, meals at work, socialising costs - I'm quite surprised by how much its all come to.

Also we are meal planning to reduce trips to the supermarket and I've definitely noticed a reduction in the food bill, despite now eating at home more.

It's needed as we're both on reduced wages, but I certainly want to keep some of the good habits going after we go back.
