I’ve just gone through my banking and realised we’ve saved £1000 but not being able to eat out at restaurants/go for coffees/lunches ect.. Blush

Lucky really as our business is going to shit now on lockdown so need it!

Anyone else realised they spend too much money and have actually saved during lockdown?

£60 but that's because I am spending my spare money on stuff for the garden I have wanted for ages but couldn't afford. If I hadn't bought that stuff probably around £200-300.

I came on thinking this would be a thread about dancing for charity Grin

We’ve saved about £1000 so far... I’ve lost my income, but we also usually spend about £50 a week on fuel, and lots of money on my 3 teen daughters’s activities...sports, coaching, language and music lessons, sporting competitions, etc etc.

I live on my own and am probably about even.
I rarely get takeaways, coffees out and take my lunch to work with me, my food shopping bill has gone up because there’s less offers though I’m buying the same food as normal apart from some extra baking supplies.
I’m shielding at home for 12 weeks so no petrol costs but I use my car for work and get paid mileage that I’m now missing out on. I have a 3 days a week job who have put me on furlough and they are topping up the extra 20% and I have a 2 days a week job where I’m on furlough so missing out there.
I’ve saved money on not going out for weekend lunches, cinema trips and driving to see friends, and the top up food shops on the way home from work, plus new summer clothes for my now put back to next year summer holiday.

I've just calculated what I spent from the 1st -21st March and compared it to the 1st-21st April and I've spent £234.00 less in April. However, I've been at home since the 14th March so I've not chosen the best way to calculate it. Even so that's a huge saving for me despite me sending my mum flowers and buying her things from amazon to cheer her up, a take away, two orders from a chocolate company, a car seat for ds, and spending more in my online shops because I can't just call in at the local shops if I need or want anything. I'm hoping I keep to this way of shopping once things get back to normal.

Current figure is £1200. We’re saving approx £175 per week compared to normal living.

I haven't added it up, but I know before lockdown I was constantly handing £20 to each DC a few times a week to go for pizza after school or get train into London to see a show with a school drama club etc. That's all stopped. And we'd eat out a few times a month as a family - not flashy places but no change of £100.

But I've spent on books and lots more on weekly shop.

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 01/05/2020 09:38

Yes and no.

Saving about £200 every week “visibly” from mortgage interest, petrol, school fees, activities and school bus. Probably quite a bit more that we’re not seeing, which would be general spending

But it’s not exactly money in the bank as PPs have said, we’ll be paying for this for a long time to come! Also both work in public sector so when the swathing cuts that will be required come, both our jobs will be at risk.

Swings and roundabouts!
