How much money have you danced in lockdown?

Mauidemigod · 24/04/2020 14:58

I’ve just gone through my banking and realised we’ve saved £1000 but not being able to eat out at restaurants/go for coffees/lunches ect.. Blush

Lucky really as our business is going to shit now on lockdown so need it!

Anyone else realised they spend too much money and have actually saved during lockdown?

Nothing.
Don't have incidental spends and food much more expensive.

EasterIssland · 24/04/2020 15:30

Just in my own 1.7k I think and husband said he had saved as well.
But last month I got a lot of money refunded (easyJet and Airbnb and booking ) so my credit card was next to nothing.

okiedokieme · 24/04/2020 15:30

Some but income hit too. About evens out

DinosApple · 24/04/2020 15:31

Probably about £400. Not sure how really as I don't drive to work anyway. Probably just in birthdays, school dinners, clubs etc. Food is costing more though. And that £400 will sort kitting DC1 out with secondary school uniform and be a start towards her bus fair.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 24/04/2020 15:33

I think we've saved £100+ on fuel alone.
Food bill hasn't changed that much.
£50 a month on swimming lessons. Similar on skiing lessons.
Refunds on Rugby matches, festivals, travel to above etc.
Weekly coffee shop visit (between school and swimming)

Buying a bit more stuff like craft supplies and books for children.

A couple of hundred extra left to go into savings.

vanillandhoney · 24/04/2020 15:33

Nothing as we've lost my entire self employed income. We're down about 1k a month.

FizzyPink · 24/04/2020 15:34

So many things I’ve cut out like nails, hair, waxing, clothes shopping, brunches out, little extras I pick up for dinner on the way home from work plus commuting costs.
At the beginning of lockdown I went a bit crazy and was buying all sorts of things to make it nicer so hopefully this month I can rein it in a bit more.
I will say our food bill has gone up loads however I’m not sure if we were already spending this much with all the little top up shops and now it’s just more obvious because we’re only doing 1 big shop a week.

anothernotherone · 24/04/2020 15:38

We never eat out and never buy take away coffee (we just don't live somewhere that's even an option).

I've spent about 150€ less than normal though, I think because of not being able to take the kids anywhere and because although I'm working more than normal I'm not going to college two days a week, which I usually end up buying resources for and often chocolate to console myself for the torture of it! Petrol expenditure is lower as petrol is cheaper and although driving to work I'm not driving to college or driving the kids around (although they get buses to school usually which are paid for as we live more than 3 miles away from any school). Spending on printer toner and paper for homeschooling has gone up but doesn't make much difference.

Our food bill is exactly the same as we always all eat all 3 meals at home or take sandwiches with us.

We're still paying the cleaner even though she's not coming, and having a cleaner is our main luxury spending.

1000€ on eating out and take away coffee is kind of staggering Grin

ChippyMinton · 24/04/2020 15:38

Saving on petrol, spending on food. And random things like ordering birthday deliveries as we can’t be there in person. Also craft and tech bits and bobs. And a trampoline.

OneMoreLight · 24/04/2020 15:38

None - our supermarket shops are more expensive than they were. Money we would have spent going out is now spent on that instead.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 24/04/2020 15:41

We've saved some. Probably around £1000 at thje moment although that will go up because we're not going to get our July holiday or our September one. Some of the kids classes aren't running, others have reduced in price because they are online. No commute. No lunches out for anyone. No weekends away. No week's holiday in April. Dh is doing all the shopping and he only buys what is on the list whereas I'd buy extras plus instead of popping in and out of shops regularly, he's only going once a week.

To balance it out and help the economy, I've been ordering stuff from local businesses for delivery so we're probably more like £300-£400 up.

rhowton · 24/04/2020 15:43

£1,700 and have just paid of my credit card of £1,200 (paid for a holiday). Husband and I would eat out once or twice a week and get a babysitter once a week and go out for drinks. I'd buy tonnes of clothes, I've been on maternity leave so loads of lunches with my mum and baby classes! I actually can't wait to return to normal and go out for dinner and drinks and see my babysitter whilst I wave out of the window shouting "see ya fuckers" to my kids as we reverse of the drive....

DelurkingAJ · 24/04/2020 15:43

About £500 over six weeks here. 35 mile round trip car commute and not buying lunch out. Still paying our CM and cleaner as we’re still being paid and they’re both wonderful and much missed by all of us.

Caramel78 · 24/04/2020 15:44

Probably about £500 between DP and I over the last month

Leftque · 24/04/2020 15:46

Saved money on an oil tank top up as it's about half the price I usually pay so saving the money I normally put aside for that. Apart from that no real savings as live in the sticks and already worked from home, so don't have coffee spends etc.

Redlocks28 · 24/04/2020 15:51

About £1000.

We are lucky in that our jobs haven’t been affected so our pay is the same and DH is saving an absolute fortune on train fares and work lunches. He has 4 hours a day extra at home without the commute, too which is great. We are spending a bit more on food but have not eaten out/had takeaways so it is still less.

I’ve bought no clothes or plants for the garden which I would normally spend a fortune on!

Valkadin · 24/04/2020 15:55

I usually go out to eat twice a week, once with friends and once with family. DH has a 50 mile round trip driving and DS needs a couple of train fares a week when his Dad can’t give him a lift to college. So saved a few hundred.

AuditAngel · 24/04/2020 16:00

I have about £700 left in my bank account and it is pay day on Monday.

I haven’t had to pay school lunches, dancing lessons and karate lessons, but food is costing more and DH has paid some of that using money from the savings account. We’ve also used savings to buy some new furniture,

TeresaMayspants · 24/04/2020 16:03

I’m saving £200 a month on driving lessons. Although I should have had my test at the beginning of April. Dds nursery is also not charging whilst they are closed so that has been a massive saving! Also saving on kids swimming/ballet lessons. Probably have saved serveral hundreds although our Asda shops have been ££s

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 24/04/2020 16:07

We’re saving money on meals out and travel, but no income from DP and I’m furloughed so we’re basically just managing. No fun spending at all for the moment.

Monkeybunkey · 24/04/2020 16:08

I reckon we've saved around £200 per weekend between us by not going out to eat/drink. This is weekend number 6 so around £1200 by Sunday! I've just stuck an over-payment on the mortgage for the first time since December.

Sgtmajormummy · 24/04/2020 16:11

Lots.
We’ve concentrated three households into one and our supermarket shopping works out at +/- £5 per person per day.
With the good weather the heating has been off, no petrol or public transport costs, no restaurants or coffee shops. My dental treatment has been suspended (not a good thing) and so have extracurricular activities.
Extra spending online has included some computer accessories for home schooling and we’ve downloaded several films and Kindle books. Probably 20% more than a usual month. DS has bought some non-essential stuff for delivery which I wasn’t too pleased about.

Once again, even in lockdown, it’s a case of the rich (who can afford to stay at home) getting richer and the poor (living hand to mouth or forced to go out and find work) getting poorer.

LER83 · 24/04/2020 16:12

Nothing. Shopping is costing about twice as much - normally shop online with strict budget, instead dh has been going into the supermarket and buying stuff we don't need. Buying loads more takeaways- comfort eating due to the stress of trying to home school 2 asd boys and a dd who has given up trying. Also been buying random shit on the internet for the same reason! Hoping to save more in May, and will have had £200 worth of theatre tickets refunded by then.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 24/04/2020 16:13

£850 but only because I returned to work at the beginning of March after maternity leave so that's my wage in savings.
We proved while I dad on mat leave that we could survive on dh wage. So if we just wanted to pay the bills and be "OK" I could have decided not to return to work... But we quite like doing stuff and me earning means we can.
We just can't do anything while in lockdown 😂

affor · 24/04/2020 16:55

Honestly we’re not!! Our outgoings are huge and not very good savers but seeing it like this we will have to start!

OP come on. You have to know that if you can spend £1000 a month on coffees and meals out that you're well off!
