My friends are all doing that posting a tune from each year you've been alive on Facebook, and so yesterday I had an unexpected good energetic waft around the living room to This Corrosion, which cheered me no end.

homemadecommunistrussia · 22/04/2020 16:46

I bet it did!Grin sadly I don't have much room to waft, but I am doing the correct arm gestures!
Moved on to the mish-so overdramatic. Grin

I love Fields of the Nephilim!! They are my favourite band, and have been since 1988. I also like Sisters of Mercy, Alien Sex Fiend, etc

homemadecommunistrussia · 22/04/2020 17:09

Crumbs an ex boyfriend of mine was obsessed with Alien Sex Fiend, so that is a blast from the past!
Nephilim definitely the best and my most precious t-shirt.

homemadecommunistrussia · 22/04/2020 17:22

He thinks it's all total shit. I think the dancy crap he listens to is also total shit. We just keep our music to ourselves.

Different things appeal to different people, but I just love goth music, and can't understand why everyone can't love it!! I also like The Mission, Bauhaus, Siouxsie, Joy Division.

insancerre · 22/04/2020 17:28

I am cheered up by the sisters
I recently saw fields of the nephilim live and the 30 year wait was well worth it

StormOfSekhmet · 22/04/2020 17:31

I have always wanted to see The Nephilim live.

insancerre · 22/04/2020 17:35

I am lucky as DH is a fellow goth
When I met him he looked like Robert Smith

Pericombobulations · 22/04/2020 17:40

My people! Doing a little tidying every day to goth. My particular love is The Mission, saw them before lock down in Feb this year and had tickets to see them again in early May which has obviously been postponed to next year.

DH is ambivalent about goth but comes as my career to the gigs! He tolerates my lusting after Wayne Hussey

Feenie · 22/04/2020 17:47

I was v pleased that I managed to squeeze in a Sisters gig pretty much straight before lockdown and chuffed that the postponed Saturday Mish big in Leeds is still a Saturday next April. Goth school nights are not the same!

katseyes7 · 22/04/2020 17:51

Sisters of Mercy for me! l have some dvds and spend many an evening lusting after Eldritch back in the day.

homemadecommunistrussia · 22/04/2020 17:59

I am a bit hesitant about seeing bands so many years after their heyday, as voices don't always stand the test of time and generally it's just not the same.

I might be tempted by FOTN, I saw the Mission a bunch of times in 1992 ish and the Sisters a couple of times too so I don't think I would revisit either of them.

Pericombobulations · 22/04/2020 18:57

@Feenie see you in Leeds next year then!

@homemadecommunistrussia The Mission still rock, Wayne can still belt them out and still make some great new music as well as the classics, but I've heard from friends that the Sisters have not aged so well, I saw them/him in the 90's and dont really want to go again to a smoke filled room and Andrew's voice has not stood the test of time.

Feenie · 22/04/2020 19:33

It’s true that the Sisters don’t sound like they did in 1985 and there have been many permutations of the band since then, but then no band sounds exactly the same 35 years on, to be fair. If the sound is right, he still sounds great - although my favourite gig recently was a secret one at the very much smaller Brudenell Social Club.

Disappointingly, there was a lack of dry ice and the last gig - and I am so conditioned that when there was loads of dry ice in the RSC production of Prince John in Feb I very much expected Eldritch himself to step out of the wings!

Wayne’s voice hasn’t changed much, I agree, but The Mission have also been through massive changes through the years,

katseyes7 · 23/04/2020 08:29

Feenie The 'secret' gig at the Brudenell was a tribute fundraiser for Si Denbigh of the March Violets (who l'm friends with), he had a stroke a few years ago. They did it under a fake name, and my eldest stepson (VERY Goth!) has still not forgiven me that he missed it. l didn't know they were doing it, and l'm gutted!

Pericombobulations · 23/04/2020 10:23

@Feenie Have to point out the current Mission are 3/4 original line up, only the drummer has changed.

Chiyo666 · 23/04/2020 10:29

My children have just gotten into Type o negative and it’s so lovely to hear Peter Steele crooning in my living room again.

Feenie · 23/04/2020 12:42

NOW that's the case - but of course, it hasn't always been. Wayne is the only band member who has been a constant presence all the way though.

@katseyes7 I know - I used to live with a member of The Vaynes and know most of that crowd. I've been to all of the Near Meth Experience gigs. You missed a treat, and it raised loads for Si.

katseyes7 · 23/04/2020 12:47

Feenie l know, l'm kicking myself! The reason l didn't go was that l was on my own, and wouldn't have gone solo. lf l'd known who they were, l'd have got my stepson to come up and we could have gone together.
l don't know if you know Si well, but he's doing well, currently keeping busy with his garden (which is fabulous!) and artwork.
