People who know about iPhones - please help!

I have an iPhone XR. I absolutely hate it, it's huge, I have to use two hands to hold it. It's so heavy it pulls the holdy-device in the car downwards and I constantly have to push it back up again Angry

I have to message with two hands like I have a Blackberry. When I've tried to message with one hand whilst lying down, the phone has hit me in the face. It's actually so annoying I want to throw it out of the window and get a Nokia 3210.

Now, I'm going to just pay the money to escape the contract and upgrade, but to which other iPhone? Which of the other (newer) iPhones are smaller and less ridiculous? Due to lockdown I can't get into the shops to see the phones, but using the comparison tools online it looks like most of the new ones are just as big and just as heavy... really?! Is that right?

Oh I actually miss the days where Apple brought out one new iPhone, not 3 or 4 at the same time just to offer the market different options confuse me.

And please no suggestions of getting an Android, I can't cope with phone related change, I would have no idea how to use it and it would be more stressful than being hit in the face by my phone most nights.

Not sure if this has been said as I havnt read the full thread but you can change the keypad to make it smaller to use one handed of that makes sense

woodencoffeetable · 25/04/2020 14:10

@cardoon setting up uses quite a bit of energy.

Rockbird · 25/04/2020 14:50

I'm an iPhone veteran, have had them all. They use a huge amount of power in the first few days and then they settle down. Don't judge it yet.

cardoon · 25/04/2020 15:26

battery has died after 9 hours

woodencoffeetable · 25/04/2020 15:30

if the battery keeps draining quickly return the phone. mine has been ok so far.
vast improvement that I could only used plugged in to powerbank or charger

have a look at all the apps, there are some that use energy without being of use.

cardoon · 25/04/2020 15:44

Same apps as always

userxx · 26/04/2020 10:19

@Prontoe Did you have the old SE? If so, how does it compare to the new one? I need to upgrade sooner rather then later.

LadyEloise · 26/04/2020 10:39

LetTheCabbagesDie
I too have the XR.
I have no problem with the size as my previous phone was an 8 plus, which I really loved but it was only 16gb which drove me insane. I was always getting notifications about running out of storage.
However, like you so glad I'm not the only one I HATE the Face ID.
I much prefer the home button and Touch id.
I don't use the Face id so every time I open the phone I have to enter the password.Angry

I so want my 8 plus back ( with greater storage )

BikeRunSki · 26/04/2020 10:42

I’ve got an 8 and I find it a bit big. Can’t wait to trade it for the new SE when I can.

LittleBearPad · 26/04/2020 10:45

I have the new SE to replace the old SE. It’s great. A good size - I was put off the others because of the size; god knows why Apple assumes everyone has massive hands. I’ve been waiting for it for 18 months through all the rumours!

LittleBearPad · 26/04/2020 10:46

@BikeRunSki the new SE is the same size as the 8 - sorry

LittleBearPad · 26/04/2020 10:47

@cardoon the adaptors pretty tiny; you’d likely forget it was there.

BikeRunSki · 26/04/2020 10:50

@LittleBearPad. Poo, I was hoping it would be the size of the 6. Never mind, I kind of like the bigger screen now that everything is happening by Zoom.

Thefaceofboe · 26/04/2020 10:53

If it helps, you really do get used to the size. I have small hands but have had a ‘plus’ for years now and when I use my partners normal size I can barley see when typing Blush

userxx · 26/04/2020 11:18

@LittleBearPad Is the new SE the same size as the old SE?

stakeholderwizz · 26/04/2020 11:18

My SE arrives tomorrow Grin

LittleBearPad · 26/04/2020 19:44

@userxx no it’s the same size as the iphone8

thunderthighsohwoe · 26/04/2020 19:55

I just got the new SE yesterday, very impressed. Both of my sisters and their partners have the 11 and while it is swish, I couldn’t be doing with the size and the Face ID business.

(Of course, there’s also the fact that I’m the token low earner in the family and can’t afford the 11 on a teachers salary 😂)

userxx · 26/04/2020 20:42

@LittleBearPad I don't know the size of an iPhone 8 🙈. I'll google 👍

LittleBearPad · 26/04/2020 23:44

@userxx. Bigger than an old SE by about half an inch or so.

cardoon · 27/04/2020 17:02

Glad to report battery has stopped losing charge so quickly, phew
Cannot keep the earbuds in my lugs when running so looking for overear, wireless alternative - any suggestions?

AmelieTaylor · 27/04/2020 17:09

I still have my 6s - it does a million things I never use and it's bigger than I'd like. I'm dreading ever having to replace it, but I'm saving this thread ...just in case Thanks all🌷

AlternativePerspective · 27/04/2020 17:18

Is the new SE the same size as the old SE? it’s identical to the 8. In fact I have an apple charging case for my 8 and my SE fits into it exactly.

I got my SE yesterday and I love it. Much faster than my 8 and battery life is fantastic. On the first day it was very much running down quite fast but now that it’s settled down it’s running nicely.

userxx · 27/04/2020 19:32

@cardoon I got some Sony headphones from Aldi, not sure if they are still selling them but they are brilliant for the price. Think these are Bluetooth, not sure if that makes a difference.
