People who know about iPhones - please help!

I have an iPhone XR. I absolutely hate it, it's huge, I have to use two hands to hold it. It's so heavy it pulls the holdy-device in the car downwards and I constantly have to push it back up again Angry

I have to message with two hands like I have a Blackberry. When I've tried to message with one hand whilst lying down, the phone has hit me in the face. It's actually so annoying I want to throw it out of the window and get a Nokia 3210.

Now, I'm going to just pay the money to escape the contract and upgrade, but to which other iPhone? Which of the other (newer) iPhones are smaller and less ridiculous? Due to lockdown I can't get into the shops to see the phones, but using the comparison tools online it looks like most of the new ones are just as big and just as heavy... really?! Is that right?

Oh I actually miss the days where Apple brought out one new iPhone, not 3 or 4 at the same time just to offer the market different options confuse me.

And please no suggestions of getting an Android, I can't cope with phone related change, I would have no idea how to use it and it would be more stressful than being hit in the face by my phone most nights.

The iPhone X/XS/11 Pro are smaller than the XR. I have small hands and can manage a XS.

I wear sunglasses all the time and Face ID recognises me. It’s weird, it recognises me with/without makeup, with/without lip filler(!), with hats or glasses on etc and I only set it up the one time - maybe yours isn’t calibrated properly? If it is, you can still set up an “alternative appearance” with your sunglasses on.

Touch ID is miles better than Face ID though, so much faster. I have had my phone for almost 2 years and I still feel like a bit of a twat bringing my phone to my face to pay for things

Oh shit do you? Eek.... haven't thought about that...

LetTheCabbagesDie · 22/04/2020 21:33

Why did you get it then? The XR is one of the large models, you should've got a 7 or 8.

Confused I was upgrading from the 7, it was a mistake... I didn't realise it would be such a pain in the arse.

I don’t bring mine to my face to pay, I just hold it near the reader and look down at it, always works

I've just preordered the new SE(2020) £419 Looks like it would fit your brief too I'm 55 so past all the "bells and whistles" my three sons all have the latest ones and all are impressed by the specs on this one( I'm a reformed technophobe, which is why I value their opinions!) I have the previous SE which is slowly dying

canyouseethesea · 22/04/2020 22:30

I have the iPhone 10 plus still which is the perfect size for me x

Cakes4Teatime · 22/04/2020 23:42

I have the old SE and have been waiting for the new one. I ordered it last Friday and it’s due to arrive this Friday. £40 trade in for my current, four year old, SE so costing £379.

userxx · 23/04/2020 06:38

@Cakes4Teatime I love my old se but it's running out of storage so I will need to upgrade soon. Will see what offers I can get.

cardoon · 23/04/2020 12:48

Anyone know if I can transfer all data (easily!) from 5s to SE 2020?

FreckledLeopard · 23/04/2020 12:50

I just upgraded to an iPhone 11 and it's fine. Nice size, not heavy, I'd recommend it.

AldiAisleOfCrap · 23/04/2020 12:55

If you use a popsocket you can use the phone one handed.

woodencoffeetable · 23/04/2020 12:55

Anyone know if I can transfer all data (easily!) from 5s to SE 2020?

back up to icloud.

cardoon · 23/04/2020 13:19

arghh, does the 5s have that capability?
I seem to have 5kb of icloud drive and no way to manually backup?

browzingss · 23/04/2020 13:26

@cardoon it does but you can manually back up to iTunes (via laptop)

I think upgraded iCloud storage costs 79p for the initial tier, might be worth a one off purchase to back up and transfer your data when you get your new phone? It is very convenient so worth the low cost

Prontoe · 23/04/2020 14:12

My ds literally yesterday ordered the following:

Apple iPhone SE Black 64GB
£414.00

Is that the old one or the new one - it's to be delivered tomorrow so I'm guessing the old one?

Prontoe · 23/04/2020 14:14

He's worried he should send it back and wait for new one?

Prontoe · 23/04/2020 14:19

Ok, he has said he thinks it's the new one. Strange if they're only coming out tomorrow!

GiantKitten · 23/04/2020 14:44

It is the new one, Prontoe Smile

Giffgaff have some stock for delivery tomorrow if anybody is desperate.

GiantKitten · 23/04/2020 14:45

I don’t like the black front Sad

Belindabelle · 23/04/2020 15:50

Just ordered The red one from Giffgaff. Thanks GiantKitten.

hellsbellsmelons · 23/04/2020 16:55

I just went from a 5c to an 8 and not had a problem.
Not too big or bulky.
If I'd known about the new SE though I might have waited!
DOH!

GiantKitten · 23/04/2020 17:07

BelindaBelle great! Smile

Prontoe · 24/04/2020 00:07

That's good!

Holothane · 24/04/2020 00:18

I’ve the 7 plus I love it for its big screen also giant iPad for my eyes I saved for that, worth weight in gold.

Prontoe · 24/04/2020 14:59

I think it very much varies on how you use your phone. When I'm home I use my laptop (I touch type, so it's just faster), so I only use my phone on the move or in bed - therefore I too need a small handset.
