Fruit is NOT a special dessert.

Discuss.

I won't say which side I'm on.

Is a special dessert fruit?

Or

A big gooey sticky toffee pud/cheesecake/pie and custard.

Stewed fruit is rank and cooked apples are only served in the Devils Restaurant. Apple pie, apple crumble, apple anything can do one.

But a bowl of berries or tropical fruits and Greek yoghurt is food of he Gods (don’t like cream or ice cream meither).

SinglePringle · 21/04/2020 21:24

*neither

SinglePringle · 21/04/2020 21:25

Oh. FFS! * EITHER!!

OhTheRoses · 21/04/2020 21:32

Oh I think some fruits are very special.

Strawberries and chocolate
Beautifully prepped pineaple
Ogen melon - halved and filled with raspberry sorbet and raspberries
Baked peaches
Pears in port
Cherries (tinker, tailor, etc)
Oranges in caramel
Banana splits
Raspberries on passionfruit and white choc mousse
Summer and winter fruit jellies
Apple Amber

joystir59 · 21/04/2020 22:26

Fruit is a wonderful desert.

NotNowPlzz · 21/04/2020 22:29

Banana split yes
Some kind of fruit crumble yes
Everything else no

NotNowPlzz · 21/04/2020 22:32

Fruit salad is the most disappointing thing ever.

ironicname · 21/04/2020 22:36

I tell DC that fruit and yoghurt are legitimate desserts. They know this is bullshit, but I can't show weakness or I'll be whipping Angel Delights every night.

CakeAndGin · 21/04/2020 22:45

It depends on what fruit it is.

Pick your own strawberries in June - that’s a special dessert. I don’t even need the cream. However, if you add cream or chocolate it becomes an amazing dessert. Fresh berries can be pretty expensive so we will have them as dessert, rather than fruit snacks or with breakfast but usually add something to them - cream, meringue or yogurt.

However, adding fruit to a dessert does make that dessert more special. You can get a chocolate brownie and that’s a dessert. But if you get a brownie, then artfully slice a strawberry place it on top and dust it with icing sugar - that’s a special dessert.

Fruit is generally a snack. If we are out of deserts we sometimes turn fruit into a desert by pairing with cream or ice cream.

Camomila · 21/04/2020 23:31

Strawberries/raspberries and cream - dessert
fruit salad and ice cream - dessert

Fruit by itself, including nice fruit like berries etc. is just a part of the meal or a snack.

Megan2018 · 21/04/2020 23:34

Fruit is horrible. I don’t eat it! So it’s a form of torture, not pudding!

Xmasbaby11 · 21/04/2020 23:37

Fruit isn't even a dessert. It's what you eat when you haven't got a dessert.

Maybe a nice mango or strawberries is lovely, but on its own not a dessert.

Sittinonthefloor · 21/04/2020 23:55

We have a piece of fruit for pudding nearly every day! Apple, banana or if in season an orange. I did know people ate pudding-pudding every day! We don’t eat between meals so fruit is part of meals not a ‘snack’. Stewed fruit in the winter, mmmm. Apple and blackberry! Had some rhubarb & custard at the weekenD, heaven!

Sittinonthefloor · 21/04/2020 23:56

I did not know!

I love fruit but it’s not a special dessert imo

MinkowskisButterfly · 22/04/2020 00:03

Depends on the fruit, we have apples, pears and bananas as the norm. But strawberries, blue berries etc are pricey so are treat in this house.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 22/04/2020 00:10

I think fruit can be a special dessert but not just straight from the fruit bowl.

There's nothing better on a hot sunny day then a bowlful of sweet ripe strawberries with double cream or a sprinkle of sugar.

Or a bowl of warm tinned plums with custard on a cold and dreary day.

We usually spend a day at the end of summer and again at the end of autumn making up batches of stewed fruit for the freezer.

BlackBerry, plum, apple and cinnamon
Strawberry, raspberry and blueberry
And so on

That way we have instant fruit desserts we can just pull out of the freezer and either defrost with custard, cream, on meringues......
or chuck in a dish and cover with pastry, crumble, cobbler dumplings for a hot pudding.

florababy84 · 22/04/2020 00:23

Fruit salad with ice cream or cream is special but not as special as a proper baked dessert or pudding. We don't do any dessert in our house unless we have visitors or it's a birthday etc. We have two out of five people in the family who are overweight with sugar issues so dessert doesn't help.

Gingerkittykat · 22/04/2020 00:38

Strawberries and raspberries are a treat pudding because they are expensive.

On their own they are nice but even nicer served with meringues and extra thick double cream.

EngagedAgain · 22/04/2020 00:41

Strawberries and double cream yum.. I used to like sliced up banana, with ice cream and double cream poured over banana and ice cream where it hardens slightly. However, sticky toffee pudding with custard, cream or ice cream, a nice cheesecake or pie with custard anything like that is the best. All fantasy as I rarely eat pudding now!

FortunesFave · 22/04/2020 00:54

My kids definitely see soft fruits as special...but generally when teamed with a pile of cream and so on. Raspberries, strawberries and mango are their fave.

managedmis · 22/04/2020 01:53

Nope. Not a dessert
