I read about it on the BBC news website and I did laugh quite a bit. I'm a stubborn cow and wouldn't do anything I don't want to just because someone bought it for me, let alone something that scared me.

A few years ago we flew home with the DC ( early teen) , DH sat with DS , I sat with DD .
I was beside the door , the Cabin Crew said I could sit there if I would open the door if we needed to disembark.

Course I said "Yes" (extra leg room, who wouldn't) but I did think "Does this actually happen ? For real?"

I suppose it must . It didn't on our flight (mercifully)

This summer DD was next to the door on a flight back from Italy. Apparently the stewardess looked at her dubiously, and then asked the Italian couple sitting in the other two seats next to her if she was their daughter and if she'd be able to manage the door. DD is a 21 yo engineering student so was a little put out by this.
