Who is angling to be next Prime Minister?

The Times has the knives out for Boris today.

So who is behind this? Is your money on Gove? Could he stab Boris in the back once again?

Not Raab or Hancock.

Agree that Rishi Sunak has been the outstanding performer in all of this. But he's still a new boy.

Cam77 · 19/04/2020 17:26

The problem with idiots like Johnson and Trump is not just that they are totally unsuited to hold positions of such importance, but rather that such is their self delusion/ego+ massive insecurity that they ensure that greater talents are excluded from holding top positions.
You'd think Starmer ought to have a shot at breaking this virtual one party rule of the past 40+ years, but realistically we'll probably see an independent Scotland before the Tories are out of government as England can never seem to get enough of the Eton brigade.

TheoneandObi · 19/04/2020 17:28

Blair was a relative new boy when he broke through. I see no reason why Sunak, if he is genuinely talented, couldn't make a go of it. Couldn't do worse

If your definition of "outstanding performer" means hasn't come across as totally clueless , deer in headlights, out of their depth (Boris "Shaky Shaky Vanish" Johnson, Priti "One thousand hundred twenty five million thousand" Patel, Matt "The Fury" Hancock") I share your assessment.

Frownette · 19/04/2020 17:31

Oh not Gove, please

TolpuddleFarter · 19/04/2020 17:37

I believe Jeremy Hunt is the backstabber, and also think he's probably the person best placed to become PM.

midsomermurderess · 19/04/2020 17:40

What unescorted says. As to who next, well, who knows. Gove is a Brexit die hard too and has in the past worked closely with Cummings.

TokyoSushi · 19/04/2020 17:46

Gove or Hunt, maybe both. Somebody is up to something, that stuff in the Sunday Times didn't come from nowhere...

marvellousnightforamooncup · 19/04/2020 17:50

My money is on Gove. The bitter pill is only slightly sweetened by BJ's legacy wanting the top job since forever then being the shittest PM we've ever had.

notacooldad · 19/04/2020 17:51

No one if they had any sense!!

helpfulperson · 19/04/2020 18:09

I presume it will be one of these Mumsnetters who have been explaining what the Gov has been doing wrong and how they would do so much better.

No, they are too busy completing their applications for teaching training.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 19/04/2020 18:13

Not POB, pritti is a liability, possibly Matt Hancock?

EmpressMcSchnozzle · 19/04/2020 18:22

There will never be another PM. The divine DC will declare himself Supreme Archon of the Known Universe and we'll all live happily ever after North Korea style.

DianaT1969 · 19/04/2020 18:32

I wonder if the scientists and medical/public health leaders leaked anything. It must be galling standing next to ministers who constantly recite "we follow the science" and they think "but you didn't bloody listen to us or take action until March!"

wanderings · 19/04/2020 19:15

I too wondered who will apply from Mumsnet, since many of them seem to know best.

Please don't bring Bliar out of retirement to be PM again. That oik who couldn't tell the difference between himself and God would have just loved to put the little people in their place!

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2020 19:27

Gove. Twat.
Twat is not a separate person. I can only speak of Gove in single word epithets.

Arse.

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2020 19:29

betty, or nursing...filled in by volunteer work in a care home. Grin

sutchie · 19/04/2020 19:32

I'm not sure. I just want Mr Johnson to face a trial for corporate manslaughter or something as severe once this is all over, as any other Tory leader would have acted more quickly and saved lives, compared with him.

EwwSprouts · 19/04/2020 19:33

I think Gove will stab and think it would be disaster for Conservatives if he then becomes PM. Brandon Lewis has been quiet & has some experience, barrister to match up against KS and preferable to Rees-Mog or Gove.

midsomermurderess · 19/04/2020 19:59

Rees-Mogg wouldn't be in the running, he's not a serious contender at all. He's even more of a performer than Johnson and that is not what is needs, an inauthentic, pontificating empty vessel.

Isleepinahedgefund · 19/04/2020 20:07

I reckon Robert Jenrick would put his hat in the ring, and stand a good chance. He’s been very visible On behalf of govt during CV.

Corporate manslaughter 😂 hilarious. You’ve literally no idea, have you.

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2020 20:13

Jenrick is an awful man. He is a male Nadine Dorries.

Sewingbea · 19/04/2020 20:18

Gove. He's always had his beady eyes on the job.
Can't stand the man after what he's done to state education.
