Severe constipation- PLEASE HELP ME (Warning TMI!)

A combination of rubbish eating, lack of water and codeine for period pain has led to me being constipated. I haven’t ever had it this bad and I am in total and utter agony. I usually go every day and I haven’t been in 4 days. I’ve tried mainlining fibre rich food, loads of water, going for a walk and laxatives. This morning I can hardly walk. I can feel the stools in my rectum And they are rock hard. I think they may be becoming/have become impacted. I’ve sat on the toilet for hours and I think I’ve torn myself, there’s no bloody but I was literally
Shaking with pain earlier, it was taking my breath away . I do not know what to do, I’m totally panicking. It hurts to sit down, it hurts to stand up. The pressure in my back/buttocks is unreal and it’s spreading down my legs.

Can I go the walk in centre? Or ring 111? I would really rather avoid that because I’m a single mum so would have to take 7 year old DS with me but I will do anything. It’s just so painful when I push, feels like I’m Labour.

Please can ANYONE off any advice on what I can do. Thanks

I can't believe I'm typing this but Grin
This happened to me post spinal op due to the painkillers etc. I effectively had to manually remove it which was the only way, nothing else worked
Once I had done the first bit it was easier. Stop with any fibre, loads of liquid

PillowTalkFork · 19/04/2020 11:57

Honestly I think that’s what I might have to do. I’m not above that if it means this pay ends. I’m shaking

Prepare for the most horrendous paint stripping gas with the lactulose. I’m surprised my family survived quite frankly 😱

I have a child with chronic constipation four days isn't really that long ,but I appreciate it must be very uncomfortable ,movicol is very good ,as is sodium picosulphate ( picolax) lactulose is only a softener but might help ,my son ha s bisocodyl suppositories which are much more effective than glycerine suppositories although might give you stomach cramps, I don't think 111 can help.much at the moment tbh as even when my son hadent,t had a bowel movement in several weeks I was advised unless he was vomiting he splendid admitted to hospital

aladyofinderterminateage · 19/04/2020 12:04

Movicol is better than lactulose IME.
You need to hold 2 suppositories in for as near to 20 minutes as you can.
Getting into bed with a book and a heat pack on your lower abdomen can help.
You do need to be able to get to the loo quickly...
God this is bringing back awful memories.
I have chronic constipation and I need to be very strict about regular vegetable soup and stewed fruit. Somehow cooked veg and fruit is much better for me than raw.

Northernsoullover · 19/04/2020 12:04

I had severe constipation at the beginning of lockdown..lactulose is wonderful stuff but yes, sexnotgender the farts were terrible.

PillowTalkFork · 19/04/2020 12:06

Honestly I know it’s not that long at all but I go at least once a day, most days twice. So to not go for 4 days is totally unheard of. I have a high pain threshold but this is totally knocking me sick and when I’m sat on the toilet the stinging/burning is so painful it feels like I’m going rip open :(

PillowTalkFork · 19/04/2020 12:10

What is supposed to happen with the suppository? I’ve got one in now but nothings happening I just have cramps.?

I had this after I had DC3.

It was was more traumatic than all three births, and it has mentally scarred me.

I can't believe I'm saying this and I hope you aren't a poo troll, but if you kinda lubricate around the offending article then that helps it descend.
The suppository will work soon, that will cause everything to contract and get moving.

Your poor butt.

PillowTalkFork · 19/04/2020 12:25

Definitely not a poo troll! I don’t have any lube, I should have got some from the pharmacy.

@Pillowtalkfork try being generous with Vaseline instead, it’ll do the same job.

EyeShipMiceElf · 19/04/2020 12:36

You have my sympathy too, I suffer so badly with this.
I’ve bulk bought Laxido in the hope it will help as I normally rely on glycerine suppositories but they were out of stock everywhere and I wanted something more long term so thought Laxido might help.
@ChinUpChestOut which flaxseeds are best? Just looked on Tesco as I have a delivery booked next week and there’s a few varieties.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 19/04/2020 12:39

Following..

My son's.digestive system has shut up shop with the stress of covid etc. I think the poor sod has performance anxiety it's.been so long.

So far I'm.sticking flaxseed on anything and.everything, and.upping the prunes. His diet is.good, he certainly doesn't eat rubbish and has just help me make carrot and lentil soup for.lunch.

My usual prescription is black coffee and a big Mac but theyre closed Hmm

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 19/04/2020 12:43

Also what does help is raising your feet. Find a.good book and make yourself comfy. DO NOT STRAIN.

We actually have a.'squatty potty' for ds (( found myself shouting use the shit step whenever he.goes in the bathroom. )) But a.tin of beans under each foot does the same job.

TheReluctantCountess · 19/04/2020 12:47

Oh you poor thing. I hope relief comes your way soon.

ChinUpChestOut · 19/04/2020 12:50

@EyeShipMiceElf I've just had a look at Tesco. I think the Linwoods one most closely resembles what I use. I've attached a photo of my flaxseed in case that helps. (I'm overseas, and bought mine in some health food shop).

babybunny123 · 19/04/2020 12:52

Hi i suffered with this when i was taking strong painkillers. After taking Senna and Movical i sat on the loo with my feet on a pile of books to elevate them and that makes you sit back on the loo. I have got to say it worked, the relieve was so immense I cried with joy.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 19/04/2020 12:53

Another member of the constipation club here ! Agree with ditch the fibre . If I've had a long stretch ( 7 days ) then I take bisocodyl, they do make you crampy but they clear you out.
I've had some success taking magnesium supplements and drinking " andrews" every morning after breakfast .
I totally sympathize I've had this all my life .

Sameold2020 · 19/04/2020 12:55

Tesco prune juice is cheap and amazing to ensure regular movements once you're past this. Apparently kiwi fruit too.

It will come out, op. Try to relax.

Washinglinewench29 · 19/04/2020 12:57

Another vote for laxido takes a few days to work but works well.

springydaff · 19/04/2020 13:03

Lidl sell ground linseed pouches, a must for me - 1 tbsp every morning on my breakfast. Amazing stuff. They're in the same section as packaged nuts (on the right after salad and fruit - most Lidl stores have the same layout).

1forsorrow · 19/04/2020 13:04

I have suffered with constipation all my life, when I eventually manage to go I feel great for a couple of days and then the count starts as I worry about if it just starts again. I found lactulose useless, high fibre uselss, prunes useless, eventually I would have to take high doses of laxatives and suffer terrible cramps. Two years ago I discovered bromelain. OMG it has changed my life. It is an enzyme from pineapples, initially I was taking 3 a day, now I take one. I don't know if it is just me but it has been the most amazing thing.

flomp · 19/04/2020 13:06

Once you’ve lubed yourself/given suppository you might find it easier to manually evacuate it by putting your fingers in your vagina - you’ll feel the rocks in the rectum through back wall of vagina & will be able to push from that direction which is often easier than scooping out via your bum.

TiredofSM · 19/04/2020 13:09

@ChinUpChestOut omg for a minute then I thought you had posted a picture of what came out!

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 19/04/2020 13:10

I suffer due to my copper coil-depending on my cycle depends on how bad it is. I do what flomp suggested. Use my thumb and push it down. It’s a bit grim but it works.
