I’m watching Cats (2019) 😧 and would like more of this sort of horror please!

OP posts:
Lubeylube · 19/04/2020 16:35

Oliver Twist, where he kills Nancy and Jason and the Argonauts where the skeletons come alive.

heartonastring · 19/04/2020 17:10

I was coming here to say Jaws! We had to study it for GCSE english and I was horrified!! I could barely watch amit and remember my teacher laughing at me saying, "it's only a PG, y'know!!" Terrifying stuff.

Pinkflipflop85 · 19/04/2020 17:20

The box trolls is a horrid film!

haba · 19/04/2020 17:25

That's such a shame @Pinkflipflop85, because the book it's based on is utterly wonderful and v v funny- my children loved it! I think the film deviated a lot from the book though (well, the book is hundreds of pages long).

TitianaTitsling · 19/04/2020 21:33

@wellerhugs5 I have no idea why the Dot film terrified me! I'm thinking about watching it again to see if it still does!

WhittlingWinnie · 19/04/2020 23:26

Agree with The Watcher in the Woods...traumatised me as a child although I loved horrors.

Ezira · 19/04/2020 23:41

Never Ending Story is a U! I let my 2yo watch it because I thought a U would be fine, and for weeks he kept saying “Oh no, poor horse!”

Up makes me cry every time. It puts the fear into me about how we all age and die and are ultimately left alone.

Patsnpons · 20/04/2020 05:35

Agree about Watcher in the Woods!

Bluewavescrashing · 20/04/2020 05:55

Hold the phone.

Round the Twist is on Netflix?!

Best news I've had for weeks!

UselessTrees · 20/04/2020 13:11

Just been reminded by the fact that it's on Film4 right now - Time Bandits. The little boy's (admittedly horrible) parents exploding at the end, and him being left on his own by his burnt out house, traumatised me a lot as a child.

Bluewavescrashing · 20/04/2020 13:29

I can't find round the twist on Netflix 😭

ReadilyAvailable · 20/04/2020 13:45

Grave of the fireflies is a 12. It makes no difference that it’s animated. Loads of anime is not intended for children. Tbh, 12 seems like an optimistic certificate; it’s harrowing to watch.

I agree with all those that said Watership Down (DH hadn’t seen it and was truly horrified when I showed him it recently - it’s just remarkable what’s in that film), The Last Unicorn (I think my sister had nightmares about the red bull for years, and the harpy), and the black caldron (definitely dark for animated Disney).

Iadoremylabrador · 20/04/2020 21:16

I can't find Round the Twisf on Netflix either. 😢

NoraLuka · 20/04/2020 21:46

I came on this thread to say Grave of the fireflies - I think when it was released it was shown in cinemas with Totoro, which is kind of weird!

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 20/04/2020 22:12

Legend. The one withTom Cruise. It has lots of freaky, disturbing stuff but the worst is by far Tim Curry as the Lord of Darkness. ShockConfused

Twooter · 20/04/2020 22:21

Tarka the otter and Bambi. Both very traumatic for small children.
My kids hated madagascar2 and Toy Story 3 - they wee both very scary for nervous children.

Mrsfrumble · 20/04/2020 23:09

Oops, sorry, it must be Amazon Prime that Round the Twist is on, not Netflix. We’re signed up for both and I’m rubbish at keeping track of what’s on what...

bitterlemon1 · 20/04/2020 23:37

There's a film called 'don't look under the bed' and it terrified me as a kid. I watched it not too long ago on Disney life and it wasn't that bad
Agree with 'are you afraid of the dark?' 'Coraline' and 'return to oz'

littleshoutymouse · 20/04/2020 23:51

I love it, but give Spirited Away a go. Just read the plot on Wikipedia and you’ll see why!

Jojobar · 21/04/2020 00:13

My ex was terrified of the witch in Chorlton and the Wheelies as a child.

There was a lot of rather traumatising TV/ film then which was considered child suitable...Watership Down meant I couldn't look at a rabbit without crying for at least a year!

And does anyone remember those public information films? Scary stuff!

StarryGazeyEyes · 21/04/2020 00:19

My 10 year old has seen a lot of these without batting an eye (or thought they were hilarious) but was totally traumatised by Time Bandits, when the boy's parents were exploded at the end.

DippyAvocado · 21/04/2020 00:27

The Watcher In The Woods - the 1980s one with Bette Davis in it.

Saw it at a sleepover as a kid and it's traumatised me ever since- can't believe it's only a PG!

Yes! We watched this as a family film when I was about 7 and it terrified me. My DP were a bit weird though. I vividly remember sitting with them and watching Day of the Triffids. I looked it up and it was made when I was 5!

123bananas · 21/04/2020 00:37

Yes to so many of these. Bambi left me traumatised as a young child. Return to Oz and the wheelies gave me nightmares. I loved evil Edna in Willo the Wisp though!

TeetotalKoala · 21/04/2020 00:43

I'm 37 and I've never seen Watership Down (or read it despite having a copy). I've heard too many horror stories!

RoLaren · 21/04/2020 00:46

The Neverending Story. The horse death. Completely devastating Shock
