NCed for this.
I've just received one of those horrible emails asking for money saying if I don't pay up a video of me watching porn will be released to 12 of my contacts. They knew my password which is in the email.

Obviously I'm not going to pay up. I have very rarely watched porn but I have done, the last time being a couple of months ago.
Am I right to think that really they don't have a video of me or could they?

They dont have a video of you, it's a scam.
Delete the email, change all your passwords, run a virus scan & relax.

Sushiroller · 18/04/2020 20:27

Yup. Google it. It's a scam

MorelloKisses · 18/04/2020 20:27

It’s a scam. Forget it

RUOKHon · 18/04/2020 20:27

I had exactly the same email. I just deleted it and changed my password. It said that it had filmed me looking at dodgy stuff on my computer, so I knew it was bullshit because I only use my laptop for work.

IAcceptCookies · 18/04/2020 20:27

I got one of those too a few months back. I haven't watched porn. How could they have a video of you watching it anyway? Just ignore this.

It's worrying that they know your password, though, so you'd better change it and make sure everything else is secure.

RUOKHon · 18/04/2020 20:28

What have you been watching though OP? Wink

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/04/2020 20:28

Scam

Mlou32 · 18/04/2020 20:28

These emails are rife at the moment. Ignore it.

georgialondon · 18/04/2020 20:29

Definitely a scam

iklboo · 18/04/2020 20:29

It's a total scam. Delete & change your passwords.

slipperywhensparticus · 18/04/2020 20:30

As everyone else has said it's a scam there is a small risk someone could hack your webcam so cover it over when you watch porn

duletty · 18/04/2020 20:34

Total bullshit

willthishappen · 18/04/2020 20:39

Thank you everyone. I am currently changing my password on everything.
They said they hacked my camera!

OP posts:
Neolara · 18/04/2020 20:40

It's a scam. I've had 4 of those emails in the last week. I've never watched porn. Just delete.

Hadenoughfornow · 18/04/2020 20:42

DH had a couple of those emails in last week or so.

They've obviously got a hold of email/ password from somewhere. Just change it of used elsewhere.

But I wouldn't worry too much even though it is scary when you get the email.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 18/04/2020 20:52

I've got 7 in my spam filter right now. The first couple I stripped out the header and sent them a gif from a splatter site. After that, I count them once a day and scrub the cache. Tiresome twats.

WildfirePonie · 18/04/2020 20:54

Make sure you change all your accounts that use the same password, and don't use the same passwords!

It's scam, been getting them for months.

BIWI · 18/04/2020 20:55

It's a scam. But stop watching porn!

MortyFide · 18/04/2020 20:55

I hesitate to Google this, what's a "splatter" site?

bloodywhitecat · 18/04/2020 20:56

But if they had hacked your camera surely they'd only be able to see you and not what you were watching? (Genuine question because I am an old duffer)

ratspeaker · 18/04/2020 20:58

Total scam
But I feel it makes you feel better stick some blutack over the camera

tara66 · 18/04/2020 20:59

Lots of people got these. haven't you heard/ It's old chapeau.

SorryDidISayThatOutLoud · 18/04/2020 21:00

They have a previously used password because over the last few years a few sites were hacked, ones like Linked In, Carphone Warehouse etc. The emails are scams, they are called 'sextortion emails'. Ignore them and change your passwords.

Fredthedoggie · 18/04/2020 21:01

Wasn't there a thread suggesting this as linked to more hacking at Mumsnet?

teraculum29 · 18/04/2020 21:04

I received email like that but for 100% its a scam, and I know for sure as I dont watch porn and my laptop doesnt have a camera so I wonder what they hacked lol

but change your passwords
