Do you think that This Morning is aimed more at the middle classes or the working classes?
I personally think that it is aimed towards the middle classes.

We even always have Good Morning Britain on every morning in our house while we give the kids breakfast and get them ready for school and while me and DH get ready for work.

"The working classes are at work during the day surely?"

Working class jobs are more likely to shift work than middle class jobs.

Gwenhwyfar · 19/04/2020 15:39

"Teaching is an occupation rather than a profession."

No, it's a profession.

Tootletum · 19/04/2020 15:40

No idea but I've never watched it. Middle class.

Gwenhwyfar · 19/04/2020 15:41

"Teachers are unionised, in the way other workers are but professionals are not"

There are other professionals who are unionised. Airline pilots, for example.

" lawyer or architect may set whatever fees they wish- the client makes the choice to pay or not take up their offer.*"

But a doctor, for example, is salaried. Are you going to say that doctors aren't professionals now?

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 15:43

@gwenhwyfar

Yes the working classes are more likely to work shifts.

"ADreamOfGood your definition of profession was outdated by the 1880s. Teaching and nursing were recognised as professions by the end of ww2. A profession is a career for which a prolonged education after school leaving age, and professional qualifications and are required."

I think actually ADream's confused profession with what they call in some countries a liberal profession which tend to be self-employed or in small partnerships.

Gwenhwyfar · 19/04/2020 15:46

"Yes the working classes are more likely to work shifts."

So you've got anyone at home during the day, housewives, students, unemployed, shift workers, pensioners, etc.
It's varied, but probably a bit more working class than middle class. The person who said it's not aimed at any particular class can't be right because all TV programmes have a target audience and class will be some part of that.

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 15:48

@gwenhwyfar

Yes it is aimed at anyone who is home during the day.

Yes class would be at least some part of their target audience.

Why the question anyway, OP? Just random curiosity?

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 15:54

@ohcaptain

Tbh I'm just curious.

It’s an interesting one but tbh I don’t think who it’s aimed at is a reflection of who actually watches it, IYSWIM.

AnotherDFSsale · 19/04/2020 15:58

Prefer my radio. When I was made redundant I still never watched it. Now I'm working ( but in lockdown) I still don't watch it. It's a pile of bollocks.

Class is irrevelant; people stay at home for a million reasons. My colleague is a deputy head and watches it sometimes because he fancies Holly😅

Chestnut23 · 19/04/2020 16:03

I think there are features that appeal to a wide range. I always think the competitions seem a bit WC, but then some of Gino's Italian recipes are a little more aspirational

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 16:05

@Chestnut23

I would agree that there are features that appeal to a wide range.

If you don't mind me asking, what makes you think that the competitions seem a bit WC??

No idea really, I never put my TV on until about 7 pm. The last time I watched morning tv, was in the days of Anne Diamond, Nick Owen,and Selina Scott.. But I did see via a clip on here, that awful cringey over the top,tearful celebrity thing,when Schofield came out as Gay, It was so awful,and everyone was clapping in the studio !!

I think that early day TV, is for anyone really, some people just put the telly on first thing for the news etc, and then it stays on,and they get addicted to watching all the following things if they are at home.

somebodyelseinstead · 19/04/2020 16:21

Who cares?

Why would anyone be the slightest bit interested in whether or not the television programme they are watching is supposedly aimed at them or someone else?

Unless you're doung some advertising or marketing research of course.

What is class anyway? Don't answer that

derxa · 19/04/2020 16:22

Unless you're doung some advertising or marketing research of course I suspect it's this.

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 16:40

@1forAll74

You could certainly argue that it is for anyone.

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 16:52

@Chestnut23

Yes, Gino's recipes are good.

Aimed at large lasses in leggings with Groucho Marx brows
Generally they aspire to be Holly so get a 'Very' Catalogue.
Back in Richard and Judy's day much more middle class......

Gwenhwyfar · 19/04/2020 21:29

"You could certainly argue that it is for anyone."

No. I know a lot of people who are too serious and would find it too fluffy. I like it myself, used to watch Richard and Judy when I was off school as a teenager.
