Do you think that This Morning is aimed more at the middle classes or the working classes?
I personally think that it is aimed towards the middle classes.

@FlyingPandas

So do you or do you not watch daytime TV? I feel your post didn't hammer the point sufficiently.
Wink

@ElizabethMainwaring :o

As a socialist, I'm not going to argue!

maddy68 · 19/04/2020 01:12

Working class definitely

tontie · 19/04/2020 01:14

It's aimed at idiots with time on their hands so it crosses the class divide.

ShleeAnKree · 19/04/2020 01:18

I'd say it's aimed at people who are free and bored during the day.

I wouldn't imagine that middle class people are smarter, more motivated, more productive............

My mother used to go nuts when I tried to watch day time tv. I was about 21 and I'd just lost a job. I'm middle class and I loved it at the time. But I was feeling demotivated and aimless.

ShleeAnKree · 19/04/2020 01:19

And depressed.

anothernotherone · 19/04/2020 05:35

ADreamOfGood being a teacher does make you middle class according to every social policy or academic schema which uses class as a statistic.

If class is a post fact category you identify yourself into obviously it has no meaning at all.

Lots of people don't want to be middle classand think they're far too authentic to be in that category. Since the first world war your job determines your class pretty much, for census and social mobility data gathering. You can be middle class with a working class family background. No matter whether you're a teacher/ solicitor / junior doctor who desperately identifies as working class because you don't see yourself as middle class.

I sometimes watch This Morning as I’m home with the baby, I think it’s broadly aimed at ‘housewives’ hence the make up and fashion slots they do, and it’s mostly women who call in. I think the poster who said Daily Mail was probably right, ‘Daily Mail Lite’ would be my description.
Is it for idiots with time on our hands? Perhaps that’s a bit harsh. I’m at postgraduate level of education, but I can still enjoy an interview with a man who has 300 cats.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/04/2020 07:19

SAHPs.

I'm working class and don't watch it.

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 07:44

@Magicbabywaves

Yes after thinking about it,it is probably aimed at 'housewives'. Saying it's for idiots is harsh though.

@nancyjuice7

Like what adverts?

OP posts:
Growingboys · 19/04/2020 07:45

Working classes by which I mean not working classes.

It is utter drivel and I don't know one single MC person who watches it.

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 07:46

@Whichroomtovisit

Exactly, I just have it on in the background and watch the 'interesting' parts.

@anothernotherone
Yes, I've only been watching it the past few weeks and when I was off on MAT leave with my children.

OP posts:
nagynolonger · 19/04/2020 07:52

I haven't watched it in years. Since Fred was on the weather map. Do they still have a weather map?

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 08:14

@nagynolonger
No.

tontie · 19/04/2020 08:18

I said it was aimed at idiots, was that too harsh? I just have no idea why anyone would sit & watch it, same with J Kyle. I had about 2.5 yrs mat leave and have never watched it for more that 10 mins because I had to turn over. Plus there is actually excellent tv & radio available.

StarShapedWindow · 19/04/2020 08:18

The only person I know who watches it is my recently retired MIL, she isn’t used to being alone in the day and puts it on for company. I think it’s for people who need a bit of inoffensive background noise.

tontie · 19/04/2020 08:20

I get having inoffensive noise in the background as I like sound, used to put on Murder she wrote for that! 😆

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 08:24

@tontie

Haha!

My working class dh watches Al Jazeera and listens to Radio 4 don't blame the working classes for This MorningGrin I'm surprised it's still going, very dated concept.

derxa · 19/04/2020 08:59

It's a hideous pile of shite but I still watch it to see the depths Holly and Phil sink to. Such attention seekers. OP are you a market researcher?
I'm very dim witted if that helps.

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 09:32

It is definitely aimed at 'housewives' and mums on MAT leave.

Might be different now a lot of people are off but when I'm on annual leave and on the off chance I watch the show. Any day time TV advert is aimed at those three groups. Completely different set of adverts post 5 o'clock

tontie · 19/04/2020 09:37

Foxy bingo

Off topic but when did it become a thing to advertise the above as a glamorous night in. It's like the gambling ads on at 1am pretending your James Bond 🤣
