Do you close all the curtains?

In the bedrooms I mean. Dc are at their dad's (for the first time) and I just went into their rooms to close the curtains, then wondered why I was bothering. Do you? I never did before they came along.

I never close the curtains downstairs either., I live rurally so there's no one to look in. But my friend (who lives nearby so also rural) think I am most odd for this.

Yes I always do even when my children are away. If we go on holiday my parents come and draw the curtains every morning and evening. We are on a main road so I feel people would notice and may lead to a break in.

andannabegins · 18/04/2020 20:00

We do but living rurally I definitely would, what if you saw someone?!

TwoZeroTwoZero · 18/04/2020 20:04

If my children were away for a bit I wouldn't open their curtains in the first place.

Breathmiller · 18/04/2020 20:09

I live on farm and don't have curtains to draw. Nothing but the sheep and cows to see in
I love it. I go to sleep with the moon setting over the hill and wake up to the sun streaming in.
Bliss

@andannabegins I'd assume it was an axe murderer of some sort and call the police. Better to see them than not though? Grin

Bedroom yes as I don’t like waking at the crack of dawn.
No others.

73kittycat73 · 18/04/2020 20:36

I never open my bedroom curtains. Blush I'd have to climb over the bed to open them and can't be bothered.
I keep my front room curtains open though, never bother closing them. I am first floor so not so many people nosing in.

BadlyAgedMemes · 18/04/2020 20:38

I never want to open the buggers. The only reason I ever do is when I open the windows (most days) and want the air to circulate better. But the curtains get closed as soon as the windows get closed. Mostly just because I get a bit paranoid about people seeing in.

TheWordmeister · 18/04/2020 20:40

We have no curtains downstairs as I hate them.

Upstairs we have shutters which we do use at night, but the dcs don't bother.

BarbaraofSeville · 18/04/2020 20:52

Our house is on a hill that backs onto green belt so even if there was someone out there, which is unlikely, all they could see is the ceilings so we only close the curtains at the back of the house in cold weather to keep the heat in.

Our bedroom is at the front and we almost never open the curtains, seems like a pointless exercise.

Bloodybridget · 18/04/2020 20:56

I don't close the curtains in the spare bedroom, or at the back of the dining room as we're not usually in there in the evening, but everywhere else gets closed (curtains, blinds and shutters). We're inner city.

Bringonspring · 18/04/2020 20:58

Awww I suddenly had a flash back to being little and my mum walking round and asking us to pull curtains

I don’t do this!!

Duck90 · 18/04/2020 20:58

Only the rooms I’m using. Fortunate to have 2 sitting rooms, one will not have the curtains closed. 2 spare bedrooms, the curtains are akways open. I am not rural. Maybe I should close all the down stairs curtains.

georgialondon · 18/04/2020 21:01

Always!

IAmLegendaryExtra · 18/04/2020 21:08

I open them in the morning, most mornings anyway. Close them once it’s getting dark but love peering into their peoples houses at night when their lights are on and curtains open to assess the decor and make up imaginary stories in my mind about their lives.

AppleKatie · 18/04/2020 21:09

Nope

fitflopqueen · 18/04/2020 21:14

only in the rooms being used so Kitchen, sitting room, bathroom blind and bedroom every night. Also very rural, sometimes forget to shut the front door in summer never mind lock it!

HilaryBriss · 18/04/2020 22:24

Same as other posters, only in rooms I am using, so the curtains in the spare bedroom rarely get closed.

fourpeasinapod · 18/04/2020 22:42

I close all my curtains. I don’t know why but I would feel uncomfortable sitting with the curtains open even if there wasn’t anyone outside. I can relax more if they’re closed at night. It makes me feel all cosy

Cnoc · 18/04/2020 23:01

Never. We live in the countryside and only one house is visible in the distance when the leaves are off the trees, and I love going to sleep looking at the stars or moon, and waking up and immediately seeing the trees and sky. It never occurs to me to close the curtains, to the point where I’m baffled (and mildly irritated) when our babysitter invariably does if she’s here at night — she’s one of those who appear to think that faces will look in. But she’s in a minority. Virtually no one around here closes curtains.

Witchend · 18/04/2020 23:10

Yes. Partially because when I was a child I was disturbed after dark by a face pressed up against the window. Turned out to be my dad, but it's left me with a dislike of windows when it's dark outside.

BackforGood · 18/04/2020 23:16

More the opposite way round. I commonly don't open my living room curtains, as I don't happen to go in there during the day under normal circumstances .

fourpeasinapod · 18/04/2020 23:18

@Witchend ahhh that would put me off as well lol.

I could never sleep at night knowing my curtains were open. I’d be wide awake until I closed them.

I must have a fear that somebody is outside watching me lol

Katinski · 18/04/2020 23:33

I have a bungalow. The only curtain I have is a lace cafe net in the kitchen. My longhaul flights have provided a selection of sleep masks, tho.

circusintown · 18/04/2020 23:41

No, don't even close my bedroom blinds or curtains.

The kids sleep with theirs closed though but I don't bother with any of the others.
