Is anyone waiting on finding out school places tomorrow?

The government has confirmed this is still going ahead, is anyone else waiting to find out a primary school place?

I always find this bizarre. In Scotland you go to your nearest school and that’s it. If you want to send your child elsewhere you have to do a request but it’s rare that anyone does this.

YodaEveryday · 15/04/2020 10:57

Me! I’m not really bothered which we get tbh but at least it’s something exciting for dd to know where she’s going to go and which friends she will be with!

@Likethebattle what happens if there are too many children for the intake? Or if, like me, you are exactly in the middle between two schools?

UhKevin · 15/04/2020 10:57

I’m glad it’s not like that in England! I see some benefits but much prefer having an element of choice. School is quite an individual thing.

I guess we are but I feel so removed from it that I’d actually forgotten!!

AHobbyaweek · 15/04/2020 10:59

Yes I am waiting and ours is annoying as there is one school with a one class intake that is in walking distance but further away than the larger school in a straight line that you have to drive to.
We live next to a train line so although it is close in a straight line over the tracks, to get to it you have to go a long way around.

ofwarren · 15/04/2020 11:00

I am waiting for my 4 year old but he won't be going as his brother is shielded. We are going to carry on home education until things are a bit safer.

Shelley54 · 15/04/2020 11:01

We're waiting! Although it all feels like a very different world.

LBOCS2 · 15/04/2020 11:02

We are but her sister goes there already so we have sibling priority. I can't see us not getting the same school, so I'm not really worried (or giving it much headspace!).

Boobahs · 15/04/2020 11:06

We are! I feel so guilty that my little boy has missed the last term of his nursery year Sad

Growingboys · 15/04/2020 11:08

Agree having an element of choice is an excellent thing @UhKevin cc @Likethebattle

Firsttimelottie · 15/04/2020 11:14

Me!

For DC2 (DC1 already there). It's a Catholic school but we aren't Catholic.

I just hope that having a sibling is priority enough but also depends on how many Catholic siblings there are... It's only 30 children intake so I'm a bit anxious!

There's another school close by but I really didn't like it and of course I'd like for both of my children to go to the same school!

Likethebattle · 15/04/2020 11:28

@YodaEveryday if you are between schools you will be in a particular catchment. Too many children had never happened as catchment areas are carefully worked out. I’ve never known it to be an issue. Maybe just due to our smaller population.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 15/04/2020 11:34

Im really glad we have an element of choice. Otherwise its rich schools for rich areas and poor schools for poor areas isnt it?

gingajewel · 15/04/2020 11:48

I’m glad we have an element of choice too! I have decided to send my youngest to a different school to my eldest for a variety of reasons and I’m glad I have the choice to do so!
However pp are right, it feels like a whole different world at the moment and I only remembered we find out tomorrow when I looked in my calendar!

Yes we are. Though the current situation has rather taken the sheen of it. I work in the school I’m hoping my son gets and I know the head is really pushing to do a staggered start back if and when schools reopen. Really hope he can start in September as he is supposed to. Missing preschool is hard for him

mummykauli7 · 15/04/2020 11:54

Yep waiting to find out for DS. Hopefully he will get into same school as DD and it will be simple.

CanIDigIt · 15/04/2020 12:00

@ofwarren

Make sure you still accept your offer else you could lose it.

ofwarren · 15/04/2020 12:01

I will do @CaniDigit
Thanks

Likethebattle · 15/04/2020 12:08

But wanting to choose leads to this system that is nuts. You just go to your local here and grow up with kids who live nearby. There is usually a faith school and a non denomination in your catchment. The only pupils I know who chose a different school was one of my best friends from the next town because her mother hated the catchment school.

SuperPixie247 · 15/04/2020 12:30

I am. Really hoping for a particular school and I am staying up to see the results. Call me sad but theres not much else to do right now!

LBOCS2 · 15/04/2020 12:48

@SuperPixie247 do they release yours at exactly midnight then? Our local authority doesn't send them out until mid-afternoon on the day.

Rebelwithallthecause · 15/04/2020 12:49

I’m waiting too. I only applied to one school as it’s just 3 doors down from my house so hoping there isn’t any issue Blush

Wrigleys123 · 15/04/2020 12:50

I am too, do they send an email or do you have to login and check? I will be happy with any school really, this whole thing has made me realise she will be lucky to get an education at all!

Kuponut · 15/04/2020 12:51

Yep, but for infant > junior transfer. Should be OK as we have sibling link and she's at the linked infant school but we're out of catchment so I never assume. Hopefully she gets in - the year group wasn't full at application deadline day so she should do as her older sister's there and doing really well and they've really impressed me with the lockdown and how they've engaged the kids.

Equimum · 15/04/2020 14:11

We are. He’s got a sibling link, but we are out of catchment. The head said a while ago that first preferences didn’t meet capacity, but obviously second choices in catchment could knock us out. Not overly anxious, but will relax once I know.
