Explain this freaky amazon delivery

So, a parcel just arrived for Dh, inside was a children's book. He didn't remember ordering it so searched his order history, nothing. We both thought the book looked familiar so I checked my order history too, our accounts are linked by prime, nothing there either.

We then show Dd2, she goes to her school bag and pulls out a copy of the same (very obscure) book that she got from the school library the last week before school finished!

Package definitely addressed to Dh, nobody we know has said they've sent a book and if they did then I'd have thought they'd address it to Dd, so where has this book come from?!

Dh has emailed Amazon and I'm going to get him to check with family that it's not an easter gift. Weird.

Weird.
Did Alexa send it, were you dicussing this book at all.

WhatTheFeckIsGoingOn · 12/04/2020 17:35

Troels, we did wonder if Alexa had overheard us, but we really don't think we've discussed it, I remembered seeing the cover design from Dd's copy but wouldn't have known the title. Also, if you order from Alexa surely it still shows on your account? I've never ordered that way so can't be sure.

Someone must have sent it to you.
I've had items like that. No note or information regarding who it is from.

AnaphylacticAnnabelle, that's the only explanation we can think of. Still a coincidence that it's the same not particularly well known book Dd is currently reading, plus no one has ever sent her a book before. But I guess they thought she might be bored in the house all the time. Strange they didn't also send my other two Dcs something too if it is the case. Hopefully we'll find out.

Could easily have been Alexa. Last summer we managed to order 23 copies of the same book after an overhead conversation! We sent them all back. and we no longer use AlexaBlush

pinkazing · 12/04/2020 18:08

We received a crate of M &S fruit last week, like you no note, no explanation turned out to be MIL, I don’t think she’d have ever told us had we not asked everyone outright. V odd.

WishMyNameWasWittyNotShitty · 12/04/2020 18:11

School hasn't sent it , has it? (I know you won't be able to check atm), just thinking maybe they have sent all children a copy, but used a parent name? Only a thought, very odd though!

Purpleorangegerberas · 12/04/2020 18:12

I once received 3 artificial bouquets of wedding flowers addressed to me with my name in the label. Like the ones that you throw out for the guests to catch. Me and my ex were joking about them being sent by each other as a hint but In reality neither of us had ordered them and I never did find out where they came from! I’d still love to know!

Purpleorangegerberas · 12/04/2020 18:12

Also we did not have an Alexa so it couldn’t have been down to that!

Geepipe · 12/04/2020 18:15

Could it be a relative or friend sent it as an easter gift? Because ive sent all my nephews gifts from online and i just realised today their parents are all going to be stumped when they arrive. Grin

WhatTheFeckIsGoingOn · 12/04/2020 18:22

I'm suspecting MIL, waiting for DH to ask. Also realised when I said strange only sent for one child, it wasn't actually addressed to any of them, so might be a gift intended for them all to read.

Wtf Alexa listens in and then orders on your behalf? 🤯

Turn that thing OFF now! and throw it in the wheelie bin, immediately!

WheresTheEvidence · 12/04/2020 18:59

Could an aunt or godmother sent it to dd via DHS?

Page3 · 12/04/2020 19:02

Weird coincidence if it was from mil

RandomMess · 12/04/2020 19:06

Could it be that DD has mentioned the title to MIL as her favourite book or something?

TidyDancer · 12/04/2020 19:08

I have a friend who has been sent a bottle of her favourite alcohol every month for the past few months with no idea who sent it (came from Amazon apparently) and she also got a very weird random parcel delivered last year. No one has ever told her who sent them and the deliveries keep on coming!

Livingoffcoffee · 12/04/2020 19:15

I'd read something a while ago about people getting random Amazon packages as part of a scam.

"A seller has something listed on the website, then a fake account created by them or someone close to them buys the item and sends it somewhere random. That account can then leave a glowing "verified review," which is worth a lot to sellers."

I mean, super random if you happened to get a book your DD happened to have. But might explain the other people getting random packages!

Oldraver · 12/04/2020 19:19

We ordered a book and a random piece of wood about 3" square arrived with it.

There was a picture of two boys on it and don't know if it was just a random picture or someone had it made

KillerofMen · 12/04/2020 19:22

Ghosts.

catinb0oots · 12/04/2020 19:28

I once received a fridge magnet of Tommy Walsh wearing a tuxedo delivered by Amazon. Assessed to me. I didn't order it and neither did DH or DS1.

Real head scratcher.

We got some really random stuff, dog ear drops, iPhone watch protectors, specific cable (no dog, no Iwatch, no need for cable) (although my stepdad was impressed- he loves a cable Wink) rang amazon, very unhelpful told us just to keep it.
Few days later an extra long shower curtain appears again amazon couldn’t help and told us to keep it.

Dp’s work credit card bill eventually arrives and both these amazon shops have been billed on there plus a third (more expensive) shop which must’ve been sent elsewhere. Amazon have been really unhelpful and so have credit card company. Must be fraud.

We’re still baffled (and annoyed re credit card) but even the most expensive purchase was only about £25 - total waste of a fraud quite frankly. Last time we had problems they tried to book first class flight tickets.

It’s probably for me. Half my packages go to the wrong street. Same number, wrong street. One of 3 wrong streets.
