Explain this freaky amazon delivery

So, a parcel just arrived for Dh, inside was a children's book. He didn't remember ordering it so searched his order history, nothing. We both thought the book looked familiar so I checked my order history too, our accounts are linked by prime, nothing there either.

We then show Dd2, she goes to her school bag and pulls out a copy of the same (very obscure) book that she got from the school library the last week before school finished!

Package definitely addressed to Dh, nobody we know has said they've sent a book and if they did then I'd have thought they'd address it to Dd, so where has this book come from?!

Dh has emailed Amazon and I'm going to get him to check with family that it's not an easter gift. Weird.

Maybe someone meant to order it to their own address but had your DH pop up as a recently posted to Amazon contact and clicked that by mistake? I've nearly done that sort of thing. So, has anyone else sent things to you via Amazon before - I'd be asking them first?

WhatTheFeckIsGoingOn · 12/04/2020 21:12

The only person that normally sends us anything via Amazon is Bil, and it would be very odd if he was buying this book for himself Grin.

Loving hearing the weird stuff others have received, especially the Tommy Walsh keyring.

Nobody's owned up to sending it yet, may remain forever a mystery!

TidyDancer, I can't decide if that would be nice or really creep me out!

We received a box of lindt chocolates a few months ago from amazon. No note, no alexa and no idea who they came from? Not on either of our accounts either?

Trapordo · 12/04/2020 21:28

I've had the same today OP. Not the same item but again nothing like I'd order and also in my maiden name...

boomchikawowwow · 12/04/2020 21:30

There's a Facebook group that sends people stuff off their amazon wish list. It's not on your wish list is it?

bettybattenburg · 12/04/2020 21:35

My Amazon wish list is full of books I want, maybe I should get on this facebook group Grin

Trapordo · 12/04/2020 21:37

Thanks for the heads up boom. Just checked and no it isn't

xyzandabc · 12/04/2020 21:40

A couple of weeks ago we received 3 X Amazon deliveries over the course of about 10 days. 11 items in total. All addressed to DH. Nothing that we had ordered. Amazon just told us to keep it all.

I wouldn't have minded so much if they were actually useful to us. We got a cheap hammer drill, a Lego mini figure, phone case, WiFi extender (gave that to a friend who needed one to wfh), emergency whistle, emergency car window smasher hammer (set of 2), magnetic eyelash kit, a phone/tablet stylus pen thing, and a couple of other bits.

There is some kind of scam thing going round that works like this but I can't remember the details. We definitely weren't charged for anything and DH changed a few passwords just in case.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 12/04/2020 21:41

Last year i received a paperback of Charlotte’s Webb from Amazon that i definitely didn’t order. I do like kids literature (although not that one specifically) so i can see an algorithm recommending it, but i have no Alexa and nothing in my order history. I just had to give it up as a mystery.

alphajuliet123 · 12/04/2020 21:41

Do you have an eBay account? I once had a book delivered from Amazon which I had ordered on eBay. Apparently some sellers just get the items sent directly to you. Quite clever of them really as they have zero overheads, but a bit cheeky!

BeamerTown · 12/04/2020 21:49

@Corneliusmurphy this is a pretty common technique from scammers - they charge a few cheap items on a card or an account to see if a) the transaction goes through and b) if you notice the charge. If you don’t and they know the payment method works, they charge a more expensive item and get it sent to them.

DelurkingAJ · 12/04/2020 21:54

We had this once so I took a photo and popped it on FB asking if anyone had sent it to us by accident. It was DMIL, who hadn’t changed the address from the last time she’d used Amazon. Luckily DH was going up a week later (2 hour drive so not a given) so I didn’t have to post it.

Samtsirch · 12/04/2020 22:08

Last Thursday I received a package full of Thank You cards, from Amazon, no name but our address.
I have been stressing ever since about who feels aggrieved about not receiving a thank you from me !

ScissorsBike · 12/04/2020 22:24

Think of people who sent your DH something in the last few months, it might be them by accident. I sent a friend something in Feb, and Amazon has set their details as my default delivery address now - I've ordered things since that have never arrived. Turns out, they went to friend's house, who was stumped when they arrived!

Tattiebee · 12/04/2020 22:27

eBay? I recieved an amazon parcel and I couldn't think who it was from or why, but it was weird as I had ordered one from eBay a week beforehand. Turns out they just use Amazon to fulfill orders, even though I paid £3 less to buy from them rather than directly Confused. Unlikely, but Amazon wouldn't tell me who it was from.

TidyDancer · 12/04/2020 22:38

@WhatTheFeckIsGoingOn I think she's mostly pleased but it's bugging her and several of us now that we can't work it out. She doesn't want to approach Amazon about it in case the free deliveries stop!

The other parcel she received was just so bizarre but quite specific to her that it must've been from someone she knows but no one has ever admitted it. All in all, she's now had over £100 of free stuff so it's odd but funny!

bookmum08 · 12/04/2020 22:42

I want to know what the book is...

SummerintoAutumn · 12/04/2020 22:56

Having had my EBay account hacked last week resulting in some items being delivered to me and some to the hacker I would recommend you change your Amazon password just in case.

WhatTheFeckIsGoingOn · 12/04/2020 23:00

Bookmum08, it's called Shine by Kate Maryon.

OP posts:
bookmum08 · 12/04/2020 23:02

I've not heard of that book (and I like books - as you can see from my user name) so that has got me very curious.
If you discover the mystery let us know!

WhatTheFeckIsGoingOn · 12/04/2020 23:11

Yes, I think if it was a well known book, a classic or a best seller I'd be less weirded out, just seems such a coincidence!
