WHAT has eaten DD’s Easter egg!!!!!!

I got my kids some Easter eggs last week. With limited storage space in the house, I just left the bag with the eggs in it in a cupboard in our garage. Tonight, whilst the kids were happily watching a movie, I sneaked out and brought the eggs in. I popped the bag in our shoe cupboard and then put the kids to bed. I’ve just got round to popping their eggs out for the morning and one of them is half eaten!

Would this be the work of a mouse? We have never ever had any other food in our garage. This is the first and only time. Does this mean the mouse must still be in our garage and if so, how would I get it out?

I’m also having a panic now that I could have carried the mouse (if it was a mouse) into the house in the bag 😩

Poor DD won’t get her Peter Rabbit egg in the morning.

Um that's quite a lot for a mouse to eat. Multiple mice or think bigger (rat)

Surly · 11/04/2020 23:16

I would be hoping it was just a mouse Shock

EasterDisaster · 11/04/2020 23:18

It’s the smallest size of Cadbury egg, if that makes any odds? The thought is making my skin crawl 😩

What did the packaging look like?

Mice will have left rice like poo in the bag
If it is a rodent no eggs for anyone if they were in the same bag.

Pipandmum · 11/04/2020 23:18

Mouse or rat. Or several of them.

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/04/2020 23:18

Could be a squirrel

This is the style of egg. The box was completely intact so whatever it was managed to eat all that via the whole in the front.

Having had a rat in the house, I'd say rat.

If it's mice they would have shredded everything, and then pooped everywhere (they are incontinent so basically wee and poo constantly, it's quite easy to see where they've been).

Floralnomad · 11/04/2020 23:21

If those are teeth marks on the edge they look quite big , I’d go for a few rats .

OK- so it may have been damaged (already eaten) when you picked it up?

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 11/04/2020 23:22

Whatever it is it may have done unspeakable things to Peter Rabbit as well as eating the chocolate.

ALemonyPea · 11/04/2020 23:23

It was obviously Peter Rabbit

EasterDisaster · 11/04/2020 23:23

So we had two of the peter rabbit eggs. They were both in one bag in the cupboard. I will dispose of the eaten one along with the other intact one. The bag next to that had eggs in too. All of the eggs came in card/plastic packaging. All packaging completely intact. Am I okay giving the eggs that were in the second bag to my DD’s?

I’m certain it has happened in the garage. There were some bits of foil loose in the bottom of the bag.

I agree with PP about mice shredding everything and pooing everywhere. You can usually spot where they've been. Sorry if you have a rat. I would clean everything from the bag as well as you can without damaging it all as you don't want rats leaving dangerous traces behind.

blue25 · 11/04/2020 23:31

It could be a rat and they are riddled with disease so I’d bin it all TBH.

FrivolousPancake · 11/04/2020 23:32

A mouse would have definitely shredded.
My skin is crawling for you OP. Agh

TrainspottingWelsh · 11/04/2020 23:35

That might look like a lot for a mouse, but they're perfectly capable of carrying food home with them. How big is the hole in the front? It looks too small for a rat. But I agree with pps mice usually leave evidence behind them. Are you sure a dc didn't discover your hiding place?
Personally I'd give them the eggs from the other bag. Actually I'd put the egg from the same bag under the tap, if the water didn't get through the foil then rodent germs won't.

SqueakyChicken · 11/04/2020 23:36

If the box was intact I’d find it hard to believe it was a rat. They do a lot of damage. If the egg was in there since last week a mouse could eat a fair amount. Saying that I agree with PPs that there would be droppings.

If it’s a rat you’d need to call in a pest controller. If it’s a mouse - just don’t put food in the garage and they’ll go away again (probably field mice attracted in by the food).

Calmandsteady · 11/04/2020 23:40

A mouse can eat quite a lot - usually leave small rice size droppings - we had one that ate half a Father Christmas chocolate - given their size they can eat a lot !
