WHAT has eaten DD’s Easter egg!!!!!!

I got my kids some Easter eggs last week. With limited storage space in the house, I just left the bag with the eggs in it in a cupboard in our garage. Tonight, whilst the kids were happily watching a movie, I sneaked out and brought the eggs in. I popped the bag in our shoe cupboard and then put the kids to bed. I’ve just got round to popping their eggs out for the morning and one of them is half eaten!

Would this be the work of a mouse? We have never ever had any other food in our garage. This is the first and only time. Does this mean the mouse must still be in our garage and if so, how would I get it out?

I’m also having a panic now that I could have carried the mouse (if it was a mouse) into the house in the bag 😩

Poor DD won’t get her Peter Rabbit egg in the morning.

The diameter of the hole is under 3.5cm. Does that discount a rat? I checked and there were no droppings in the bag.

Mice love chocolate. They also live shitting everywhere. If it's rodents, you'll find evidence

EasterDisaster · 11/04/2020 23:42

I will check the cupboard in the morning and see if I can find any other evidence.

Rats can get in a hole less than 2cm 🤢

Same has just happened to me but I know I've got a rat. Am gutted, have had pest control here twice and just went to get the egg out for my boy and it's gone, even ate the wispa through the plastic wrapper.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 11/04/2020 23:44

Could it have happened in the shop before you got it home? If there's no other evidence of a mouse, it seems more likely the supermarket has a pest problem, not you.
Aww I'm so sorry for your DD not getting her lovely egg. Flowers

Babyroobs · 11/04/2020 23:47

Yes mice love chocolate apparently. We once stored some Lindt chocolate reindeer in the loft one Christmas and went to get them out on Christmas eve to find just a pile of gold foil and the little bells from their necks !

lottiegarbanzo · 11/04/2020 23:48

Are you sure it wasn't a child? Seems more likely they'd have unwrapped it than eating through the wrapping like that but the teeth marks and 'jaw shape' of the big indentation are quite child-like.

It could have happened elsewhere and the bits of foil were already within the box, falling out as you carried the bags.

TrainspottingWelsh · 11/04/2020 23:48

Personally I'd discount a hole that size as an adult rat, because we have huge fat country fuckers, but still big enough for a juvenile. And it's big enough for the average size rat. But still surprising it didn't just tear it.

Gwenhwyfar · 11/04/2020 23:49

Has a lot of the foil gone too? Mice love that for their nests. Carrying it back to the nest might be a possibility, but now way did mice eat that much there and then.

dontdillydallytoolong · 11/04/2020 23:50

I use to find my eggs and have a sneaky bite before I was actually given them.....just sayingSmile

Allihearischasemarshallskye · 11/04/2020 23:50

Oh no .!! Definitely must be mice . Did you see any droppings . I’ve had mice in my shed and 2 winters ago they ate my car electronic wiring . I’ve found that cotton wool balls soaked in mint oil (buy from h and b health shop) is the best deterrent to keep them away . They can do some damage .

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 23:51

A person.

SomethingOnce · 11/04/2020 23:51

It’s ok, OP, we’ve all done it Grin

Pickles89 · 11/04/2020 23:51

There're bound to be droppings around, but it'll have to be a rodent of some sort - anything larger would have taken it all. Poor little thing's probably really ill now. Sad

EasterDisaster · 11/04/2020 23:53

I think it’s happened in the garage. There were a few loose bits of foil in the bottom of the carrier bag.

These are the eggs from the other bag. All the smaller ones were in a egg hunt box. The Thornton’s ones were going to be for me and DH. I have anti bac wipes I can clean it all with. My kids are 3 and 6 and have gone to bed so excited for their Easter eggs 😞

It's mice! Mice love chocolate we had an infestation once had to move because of it they never chewed or shredded anything but pest control said mice love chocolate

EasterDisaster · 11/04/2020 23:56

I’m terrified of the dark and of spiders but I’m going to head out to the garage and check for evidence. Wish me luck!

Tuliptulip · 11/04/2020 23:57

If it was me I’d use the other eggs/bunnies you showed. If the foil is intact nothing can have got in and life is already rubbish enough right now without having no Easter eggs on Easter Day...

tenlittlecygnets · 11/04/2020 23:59

Wtf? What is the background to the photo? Looks very odd...

user3274826 · 12/04/2020 00:02

Mice for sure. I wouldn't bin the intact one or the soft toy personally, I'd just wipe them down.

EasterDisaster · 12/04/2020 00:07

Evidence 🤢

@tenlittlecygnets what looks odd? The first two pictures are on the living room carpet. 3rd pic is in front of my coffee table and the 4th is on my coffee table 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m guessing those little black specks are droppings. I feel physically sick!!
