When a f@$#ing jar wont open!

Shadowdoor21 · 11/04/2020 17:38

Been fighting with a jar of pasta sauce for half a friggin hour and it still wont budge. I've tried running it under hot water, wearing a rubber glove and using a wet cloth, still no luck.

Have the same problem with a massive jar of Kimchi that has been in the cupboard for years.

Anyone got any suggestions?
Besides binning the fucker n having tattoos instead that is xD

Turn it upside down and stick a dinner knife inbetween the glass and lid to release some air. It will be easy to open after.

DramaAlpaca · 11/04/2020 17:40

Hold the jar tight and bash the edge of the lid against the kitchen worktop.

It'll break the seal and you'll be able to open it easily.

CherryValanc · 11/04/2020 17:40

Short sharp (downwards) knock the bottom of edge of the lid always helps for me.

SunshineDays2019 · 11/04/2020 17:41

Get a small sharp knife and (carefully) stab though the top of the lid. I promise you it will open with ease afterwards Smile

Custardcreamies101 · 11/04/2020 17:41

Put on the kitchen hob

Tanfastic · 11/04/2020 17:41

The dinner knife to release air...always works for me.

purrswhileheeats · 11/04/2020 17:41

Stab the lid with a sharp knife.

Windyatthebeach · 11/04/2020 17:42

Use a spoon to free the vacuum between lid and jar..

HellToupee · 11/04/2020 17:42

Turn the jar upside down and hit the centre of the bottom firmly with the “fleshy” part of your palm. Works every time.

2020changedtheworld · 11/04/2020 17:42

Smack the side of it on the worktop, it will open in seconds.

sestras · 11/04/2020 17:42

Upside down in a measuring jug with boiling water. Works everytime.

Threelionsandalioness · 11/04/2020 17:42

Stab it on lid x

VettiyaIruken · 11/04/2020 17:43

I stab a knife through the lid.
Breaks the airtight seal and the lid twists straight off.

Battytwatty · 11/04/2020 17:43

I always wedge it tight between the kitchen door and the frame and then turn. Works every time

ChocAuVin · 11/04/2020 17:43

Yep — hard knock to the lid, works every time!

My kids think I’m superwoman

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/04/2020 17:44

I normally stab it with a knife, like other posters do.

DramaAlpaca · 11/04/2020 17:45

ChocAuVin haha, my DH was amazed when he saw me do the hard knock to the lid trick. Asked me if it was 'some sort of woman magic' Grin

CherryValanc · 11/04/2020 17:47

The knock one is no 5 in this:

www.google.com/amp/s/www.wikihow.com/Open-a-Tight-Jar%3famp=1

Because my description might not help!! Though I see it's been suggested a few times (just as an FYI you have to knock the rim of the lid, not the edge of it, otherwise it doesn't work.

HardAsSnails · 11/04/2020 17:47

The end of a teaspoon to release the seal works and means you don't ruin knives.

muddledmidget · 11/04/2020 17:51

A bottle opener to prise the side of the lid away from the jar and release the pressure usually does the trick (same as the knife suggested by others but less likely to lose a finger)

MrsPussinBoots · 11/04/2020 17:53

Agree with the bottle opener idea, I use it every time.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 11/04/2020 17:53

Have you got the jar open now?

randomsabreuse · 11/04/2020 17:55

Bash edge of jar with back of knife until it releases seal

Sgtmajormummy · 11/04/2020 17:57

Take a wooden spoon Sideways, like a blade and tap the outside rim of the lid sharply 4- 5 times.
The noise goes “tick tick tack tack tock”.
Safe and effort free!
