Been fighting with a jar of pasta sauce for half a friggin hour and it still wont budge. I've tried running it under hot water, wearing a rubber glove and using a wet cloth, still no luck.

Have the same problem with a massive jar of Kimchi that has been in the cupboard for years.

Anyone got any suggestions?
Besides binning the fucker n having tattoos instead that is xD

Hanging head in shame... of course it’s hot water!

VeryShortNotice · 11/04/2020 19:58

I do the stabbing the top of the jar thing that @SunshineDays2019 suggests.

Or I just ask DP to do it for me. He spends enough time pissing about with weights, so he might as well put the muscles to good use. 😆

blackteaplease · 11/04/2020 19:59

I put it in the door frame, I see only one other poster does this.

I don't trust myself not to smash it whacking the worktop, or stab myself piercing the lid or breaking the vacuum.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 11/04/2020 20:03

I have a plastered bit of wall in my kitchen ...old fireplace where the range used to be, it is full of dents because of recalcitrant jar lids, but it does work.

fuzzymoon · 11/04/2020 20:15

A bottle opener on the lid will loosen it. Works every time.

fuzzymoon · 11/04/2020 20:16

Or your tin opener has a bottle opener bit on the side to loosen jar lids.

Krapom · 11/04/2020 20:17

Yes - pierce the lid.

Here you go.

I do the same as flatcheese. Hit round the edge of the lid with a (fairly sturdy) knife handle. Most of the recommendations on here are making me wince!

Holymotherforkingshirtballs · 11/04/2020 20:28

I do the elastic band trick too, never fails!

ALongHardWinter · 11/04/2020 20:28

Bash the edge of the lid firmly a couple of time with a tablespoon. Or knock the edge of the lid firmly against the worktop. Never fails when I've done this.

cheeseismydownfall · 11/04/2020 21:30

Oh my god, stop with the knives people!!! Just knock the edge of the lid hard against something solid (I just whack it on the floor) and it will just open like magic.

SunshineDays2019 · 11/04/2020 22:49

It really isn't dangerous to stab a lid with a short sharp knife. I am an adult! Hmm No worries if you don't want to do that but PPs are making those of us that do sound like we're swallowing knives blindfold!

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 11/04/2020 23:17

Stab a hole in the lid. It breaks the vacuum and then it opens easily.

HollowTalk · 11/04/2020 23:23

Corkscrew into the lid breaks the vacuum and it'll open really easily.

Love this thread. Been fighting with a large jar of gerkins for the last couple weeks. Going to try some things tomorrow.

I usually bash jars on the bunker and it usually works a dream but not this time.
