Apart from trampoline, what has been your best outdoor toy purchase?

Kids are 5 and 7. Adore their trampoline but what else can I get them for the garden?

Depending on how big your garden is and how inclined you are for a bit of DIY, I made hurdles/ 'horse jumps' for my dd. Basically using garden canes. I used spare short pieces that I have fixed to the sides horizontally, so that the cross cane rolls off if you hit it (rather than a fixed cross cane which would cause no end of accidents). My dd is 5 and the jumps are getting higher and she is very pleased with herself.
We managed to get a trampoline from JD Williams online a couple of weeks ago. I am going to have a search in our garage as I am sure we have a swingball set. DD probably still a bit little to coordinate, but I fancy a go now, feeling very nostalgic about highly competitive swingball games with my big bro when we were little!

Mine loved their sandpit and swing ball.
Badminton set and paddling pool are also very popular.
We had a bestway pool and did like it, but it was a massive pain to empty and clean as it was just heavy plastic! We have this pool now - it's huge and really easy to inflate and so much easier to clean out

Our swing ball has provided hours of fun.

@Napssavelives I've just managed to order one from Smyths

here

Napssavelives · 11/04/2020 21:22

Ahh thanks! I’ve ordered one too. I haven’t played for years.. I’m sure he kids will like it too!

gerbo · 11/04/2020 21:31

We were saying today, the best £99 we ever spent was on our Plum swing. And paid for a man to concrete it into the lawn so it's safe.

My dd, 13, and ds, 10, have both hammered it, year in, year out.

Such a brilliant buy. One uses the (very small) trampoline, one swings- and swap - and repeat!

gerbo · 11/04/2020 21:32

I think it has done four or five years now. We ordered an extra wide seat to replace the old one, my dd's hips were expanding.....

LittleAndOften · 11/04/2020 21:39

A sand table. My 4 yr old has been playing with it outside every day since it arrived Smile

skankingpiglet · 11/04/2020 21:40

Mine are nearly 4 and 6. The thing which has had the most use has been pitching our old pre-kids festy tent. They have pretended to camp, eaten in it, played in it, used it for shade.
In a week or two if the weather holds we will pitch the bigger 'family' tent instead and sleep out there for a night or two.

The chalks have also had a lot of use for very little outlay.

Tiredmumno1 · 11/04/2020 23:07

Very welcome @Napssavelives hope they enjoy it 😊

Davros · 11/04/2020 23:12

Fold up table tennis table
Darts (adults)
Swing ball
We've got a small garden

whatacrazytime · 11/04/2020 23:13

Swing set kids go on it every time they are in the garden

Verite1 · 11/04/2020 23:14

Archery and badminton

LittleMissLumpy · 11/04/2020 23:20

A gazebo with fabric walls - basically a big tent that they can decorate with fairy light, make a nest in... airbeds in the evening are great under one.

FrameyMcFrame · 11/04/2020 23:38

Football goals.

FrameyMcFrame · 11/04/2020 23:39

@TitsalinaBumSquash could you tell me where you got the giant connect four?

Xmasbaby11 · 11/04/2020 23:50

My dd are 6 and 8.

Wendy house
Sandpit

We have a basketball hoop and there's no interest in that.

Purpletigers · 12/04/2020 01:51

Swingball , pop up badminton net , basketball hoop, hockey sticks and balls, monkey bars , sandpit , flicker, diddy car

buckeejit · 12/04/2020 02:23

Pop up badminton - can anyone recommend one?

Here it's the hammock & giant Jenga for the wee ones to make into anything & swingball or hose for bigger ones. I've been tempted to get a trampoline but did worry about broken bones especially now

Stompythedinosaur · 12/04/2020 02:24

minipie We made our fairy garden, that is half the fun. There's loads of bits on eBay you can order but most of ours is done with stones and twigs from round the garden or things the dc have built out of lolly sticks. It's all in a large wooden trough planter with various flowers - pansies and forget me nots atm but we change them. The dc planted mint once which was a mistake as it took over everything.

HarrySnotter · 12/04/2020 06:18

@buckeejit this is the one we have.😊

Aside from the trampoline and hot tub, the most popular things are the ropes and tarps etc to build dens. They spend hours perfecting the things.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 12/04/2020 06:32

A big pool. It's a Bestway 10 foot steel frame thing and cost me £100 from Wilkos in 2018. It has a pump and we bought a ladder and cover for it. We treat it with chlorine. It takes some looking after but it's really brilliant.

WutheringTights · 12/04/2020 09:12

For my 7 year old, a pop up badminton set. For my 5 year old, a paddling pool and slide (the slide goes in the pool). For both, a cheap pop up tent.
