Apart from trampoline, what has been your best outdoor toy purchase?

Kids are 5 and 7. Adore their trampoline but what else can I get them for the garden?

A second hand climbing frame with monkey bars. It was used for many years.

SistemaAddict · 08/04/2020 17:26

My 3 have been in the paddling pool today. We've got a swing, a sand and water thingy, swingball, giant skittles/bowling set, slide and step2 climbing/slide combo thingy. It's a small garden so it's rather busy out there.

Hot tub

Swingball

Water pistols

Play house!

Spudlet · 08/04/2020 17:29

The sandpit, and the playhouse - which is actually a wooden bike store as that was much better value than a proper playhouse. We added hooks to keep the doors open and DS loves it.

foxychox · 08/04/2020 17:30

We've just upgraded from a TP climbing frame to gymnastic bars, they're getting a lot of use at the minute...

Sewingbea · 08/04/2020 17:31

And a trapeze set which is hung from the apple tree at the bottom of the garden. I began to think DD2 might actually be a bat because she spent so much time hanging upside down. Grin

cptartapp · 08/04/2020 17:31

A proper wooden playhouse with a sturdy roof that doubled up for storage in the winter.

TerrorWig · 08/04/2020 17:34

We only have a small yard - a pogo stick has been a decent alternative to a trampoline!

FrontRowSeat · 08/04/2020 17:34

Wow these suggestions are brilliant thank you. I bloody loved swingball as a child - have seen you can buy a junior version.

bikes. Our scouting group has awesome 'soft' archery sets though, from decathlon I think. I am seriously looking at them but worried the kids will lose the arrows.

Sewingbea · 08/04/2020 17:35

Yes, the junior version is great, we started with that. Well worth the money. And no more lost tennis balls. 😀

TheMostHappy · 08/04/2020 17:36

Swing ball and Wendy house 🏠

Forgetaboutme · 08/04/2020 17:36

Yoga mats. I know it sounds silly but my 7 year old son has 2 and he can spend hours outside doing handstands and flips and turns on them. Then they are also cosy to lay on for drawing or anything

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/04/2020 17:39

Please don’t let your children use trampolines , I know it’s good exercise but they are the number one cause of fractures in A and E. it’s not fair to put extra pressure on the nhs and it’s a risk to your dc taking them to a hospital.

minipie · 08/04/2020 17:40

Ooh junior version of swingball could work for my two. Thanks OP.

FrontRowSeat · 08/04/2020 17:41

@makingmiracles Which Bestway pool do you have? Just had a look on their website........ how amazing!

Iamtryingtobenicehere · 08/04/2020 17:42

I bought a garden croquet set for my grandchildren a few years ago. Paddling pool, slip n slide? Boules? Quoits?

Insect safari? Hunt the “thimble”

makingmiracles · 08/04/2020 20:36

@FrontRowSeat we have the 8ft fastset one, it’s on their website for £55 but we got ours from a shop called proper job. We usually get ours out in June/July for summer hols but if the weather continues getting warmer I think we’ll probably have it up by the end of may this year!

makingmiracles · 08/04/2020 20:38

@MyDcAreMarvel don’t worry mine are very closely supervised at all times and are not doing anything like flips, just bouncing and seat drops so they should be ok

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 08/04/2020 20:38

I bought DC an inflatable velcro dartboard with tennis balls you throw at it. They play with it every time they go out. Can be played alone or together and also helps with maths skills

Blingismything · 08/04/2020 20:40

Swingball and a table tennis table.

Menopauseandteensdontmix100 · 08/04/2020 20:42

Depends on their interests basketball net or goal posts, water pistols, chalk.

BillyAndTheSillies · 08/04/2020 20:42

We bought a treehouse style climbing frame with a slide last year when Aldi did their outside toys sale, DS(4) will sit in it all day shouting instructions for snacks.

We're waiting for a goal and basketball multi toy to arrive from Wowcher at the moment. It was only £17 and came with balls.

Lots of "the floor is lava", lay tea towels out to make a path along the garden.

DS has been desperate for the hose today but he goes a bit feral with it so we are holding out on that.

NerrSnerr · 08/04/2020 20:45

We don't have a huge space but the playhouse, slide, sand pit and stilts are used daily. The stilts are the plastic ones that they used to have at primary school in the 80s (not sure if they still have them now)
