Military jets over Manchester

Sat in the garden trying to get the last rays of sunshine before my neighbours giant tree takes over. I’ve counted 4 massive military jets flying over in the last hour. Delivering covid supplies maybe?

Do army jets show up on flight radar24?

bellinisurge - really no need to speak so rudely to anyone.

We live in thr North East where a passenger plane to Spain during normal times is a rare event, we hardly ever see planes on the sky (although there was an increase since the revamp of teesside Airport). I'm jealous, love seeing planes. Although conflicting I also love living somewhere where there aren't really any.

Thanks @nicslackey . I feel I've learned an important lesson.

We're in Gloucestershire but used to live in Hampshire, Chinooks went over as often as cars went by.

Some of them are the medical evacuation planes, used abroad. They have to land low to avoid, or come in high and steep, depending on the circumstances around the air strips at the time.

Now is the perfect time for them to practice, I do wonder if they will be transporting people if things don't settle down, sadly.

The C17 was amazing when it flew by ❤️ It didn’t show up in Flightradar24.

PhoneLock · 08/04/2020 22:51

There's one of these on Flightradar24 right now. Circling Brize Norton

Too late! It's just landed.

HonkersVonFlapperson · 08/04/2020 23:01

One on Freedar just West of Oxford doing loops and landings at Brize Norton at the moment.

StealthPolarBear It’s funny, I live in one of the “holding pattern” towns for Heathrow - once a week or so you get LOTS of planes circling overhead. They’ve mostly disappeared for the moment, but I had a serious “28 Days Later” feeling when I noticed one plane and was struck by how WEIRD it felt seeing something that used to be a regular occurrence!

Tr1skel1on · 08/04/2020 23:09

I live somewhere where we are used to seeing military planes practice, I was wondering where they had gone, but it makes sense they practice at other airports when it's quiet

Thank you @Longdistance That is pure magic!

That's the same one that I was watching. It must have taken off again.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 08/04/2020 23:31

I used to live in Lincolnshire. We would regularly get fighter jets travelling overhead on exercises. Nothing like a screaming Typhoon to put the fear of god into you. I was eternally grateful I didn’t live in a war zone where I had to listen to that heading my way like a portent of doom.

Cheshire1973 · 10/04/2020 08:04

Another thanks Longdistance that's amazing.

It was at Exeter and Birmingham earlier doing the same thing.

Oldraver · 11/04/2020 13:40

I'm not sure how many people know but the end of the runway at Brize cuts acroos the Bampton to Brize Norton Road. So there are traffic lights that stop you on the road when a plane is landing.

If youre lucky to be at the front of the queue then you get the best planespotter view ever with the massive planes literally feet above

You get the same thing at the roundabout at the end of Marshalls airport in Cambridge. Can I just say that if a jumbo jet appears over the end of runway fence and flies very low over your car when you are doing a driving lesson it doesn't aid your concentration.

I live in an area frequently use by the RAF for practice flights and stuff. Scared the shit out of me the first time. Still manages sometimes to put the fear of god in me, depending on how bloody low over the house they are.

Although I think the worst was a night the range miles away was running I assume a training session. As could feel the house shake with ever bloody boom of ammo going off. Took a while to work out what it was, probably only did because my dp is ex army and he worked it out.
